Reduced Reliance on RNG (from the perspective of a game maker)

After spending 3 FULL energy bars at night today that I waited to refill and got only one cave, I'm so sick of the overwhelming RNG reliance. It kills passion. Echo to every single point in this thread, even if I could afford it I would never spend USD due to the RNG issues.

I feel like the Herbalist thing must have been patched in the time I was away because I'm pretty sure my Herbalist hasn't failed once. Hopefully I don't jinx myself.

Battle RNG and hunting RNG is pretty cursed, though. I just go after the critters because they have a high success rate, I don't have many wolves, and food is more efficient in WD than it is in LD. It's worth noting my wolves are also all pretty weak.

RNG in general is a pretty bad issue in both games to make things artificially "difficult", especially regarding bases/markings in LD. I have mentioned before many times on Lioden that reliance on RNG isn't difficulty, it's just tedium. Not sure how bad it is in WD, I think it is less bad as far as I know? Regardless, as far as battles go, something 10+ levels under you shouldn't be able to win ever. The point of going after low level enemies is that it's an easy win, but you also don't get much reward; sometimes none at all depending on the game, though I don't recommend going down that route.

(Speaking of which, why are the levels all over the place? Why am I running into level 16+ enemies???)

I didn't know there were talents now. Putting some points into those helped a little with combat but it's still pretty bad. It is very amusing to me that the "Medium" quest I keep getting is "kill 2 enemies higher level than you", but my Hard quest is... submit 4 fish. :p

All that said, I'm still enjoying WD a bit so far after coming back to it.

I'm also going to kindly oppose to the general sentiment regarding hunting & foraging. As for battling, I can't really say anything to that since I do battle but I don't really care nor notice when I loose.

Hunting is where it's especially easy for me. I have so much food it rots before I get the chance to use it all. I have to sell food all the time. I can forget to hunt for days and still have enough to feed my whole pack. Not only that, I was R&C for a long time about 30-40 pups at a time and still had enough to feed them and my entire pack. With the hunting update, I only hunt in grassland or any starting biomes and I always get a 100% chance to succeed any hunt. My wolves aren't so strong I had to spend money on them either. Yes they're better than NBW but I think leveling up and breeding your wolves to have better stats should be part of the game.

To me the game's challenge is just where it should be : not too easy but not incredibly difficult either. If RNG is lowered for battling I wouldn't have any problems though but I prefer it stays the same for other parts of the game. Like yes it'd be pretty cool if most enemies you encountered would be your level or around it but I'd still want higher enemies or lower.

Full support from me. RNG is always a nightmare for me whenever it's involved. Dunno who I pissed off, but any game, anywhere, even in my RL where 'odds' are important, or chance circumstance, I'm chronically a low roller. The less RNG, and the more something can rely on my abilities and skill, the happier I am.

I'd consider myself quite skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to battle tactics, and my lead has been level 20 for ages, yet there are some enemies that routinely kick my ass. I do think the battle system needs a little tweaking. For example, I keep coming across level 18-20 Corrupted polar bears and I just click past them because even at level 20 there's still no point in even trying. Like... really? So many Charged/Corrupted enemies are just insanely OP

Whats really crazy is that as a level 20, 1800 stat lead, I get my ass kicked by level 10-15 fox/bobcat, but I can take on and wallop a level 20 grizzley.

Its completely illogical.

Don't touch anything in battling, it's the best designed aspect of this game at this moment. Sure, can be better I guess, like there's a stat ceiling where you can't raise your odds of winning with further stat gain, but tweaking it might feel displeasing most likely, especially that according to the feedback here the expectation is on level or total stat dependency and I don't want the battles to be dependent on level or total stat.
