Discussion: Clans

I was thinking "guild" could be a cool name for clans here, since clan feels like a more feline oriented name.

@Seph I think that's a really good idea but maybe instead of "Club" the word "alliance" could be used instead, or maybe something similar since alliance alludes to a war and enemies and such... Maybe "league", "confederation", or "organization"?

Society wouldn't have been a bad option either but unsurprisingly we already had a poll about what to name it and clans won so thats what it will be

I am suuuper late to this and wasn't able to read through the entirety of the comments, but here's the few cents I'd like to put in regarding clans/groups!

From a more convenience/UI standpoint I have some ideas that would be fitting.
-----> An announcement/status message banner that can be displayed on the front page. If there are any updates to the clan or a message that the staff would like to prioritize getting seen, it can be in a place easily noticed separate from the main clan bio/information.
-----> Clan member removal? I know that on Lioden when a player is inactive for a year, their account is deactivated. Perhaps that can be applied for clan so staff don't have to manually remove inactive members from the clan (this would be really nice for larger clans). Would allow room for more active members to join, or if the person decides to come back they can easily re-join without having lost any benefits (add on to Jez's inactive member suggestion).
-----> I love the mood boosting mechanic that Lioden has, and would love for this to be added for clans here as well when they come. There have been many times where a friend or clan member has asked for boosts since they forgot to amuse their wolves before rollover. Would be really purposeful.

As for original ideas that could be potentially implemented
-----> Depending on the size of the clans, perhaps we can add Tiers/Upgrades to clans? Ie, if you have a bigger clan you can pay a monthly fee to unlock bigger features to use. This could range from hosting multiple clan raffles at once, having a clan Tier badge next to the name (inspired from Discord server boost levels/Super groups on Deviantart), or (was already suggested) private forums. So for joining a bigger clan they can have the ability to access more features. Yes you would have to pay more, but clans that make more money will definitely have the funds to pay for them. I think it would also be able to show the credibility/verification of the clan.

In support of:
Clan shops! I saw this was mentioned and this would be a great addition. A great way to raise money for the clan to pay clan fees or save for raffles and clan events.
Buying multiple clan tickets at once (unless it's a free raffle ofc). This would be so nice as opposed to manually purchasing a ticket one by one.
Clans being called Lodges. This is a wonderful term and sounds much more welcoming and inclusive. It's a social place where you can participate whenever you feel comfortable, or just join raffles and keep to yourself mostly.
Though I suggested clan Tiers, I also saw Alx's clan points suggestion, and think that would be super cool too, as a way to level up your clan. I wouldn't really give rewards for it unless they're very small, since that's not the main focus + being in multiple clans would potentially make that a farming technique. :[

Either way, I am super excited for the addition of clans/lodges, and eagerly await what the staff have cooked up! I'm sure we won't be disappointed.
If I think of anything else I'll probably post later.

Thoughts on a clan shop idea:

I think it could be as simple as people having the option of making their trades discounted or only available for members of their clan, but it would be really interesting to see something like Lioden's shop feature (I think it was called branches?) where a shop would be accessible from the clan's main page and only available to members. Anyone in the clan (or possibly only select people if there was a setting to limit that) could put something up for sale in the shop, and if someone else bought it, the seller would get most of the money with a small percentage instead going to the clan's bank. The percentage of sales that the clan gets could possibly be customized in its settings.

Back read a good chunk of this thread and I am very much in favor of including clans/alliances/lodges/whatever you want to call them! I like the system LD has, but it could probably be gussied up a bit for WD with some more features. Some ideas I like so far are private forums, shops, a shared food pile (maybe it could be done like the food pit in the Jan. LD event except everyone has to make sure it has enough food uses stocked), and discounted studdings for other members. Having different tiers to be able to do More Stuff would also super neat!

Also, I'm very glad it was cleared up that there are no plans for a battle feature in clans. Maybe it's just because I already have insight on how clans work from LD, but it was very strange to see the idea tossed around for quite a few pages. Like, I know WD is pretty advanced compared to LD but woaaahh hit the breaks we're moving a bit too fast.

Another thing is that while I understand people's hesitance towards clans, seeing them as either useless or a potential petri dish for toxicity, I think clans really are something that can encourage socializing, or at the very least be useful in other ways. It's already been mentioned by some that while the chatter forums work well enough, there's no way to send announcements to members or to ensure everyone is informed of the latest news and events.
Because of this, many currently existing clans have taken to Discord for a more organized chatting experience and to send/receive announcements. This works well for the people who already have and know how to use discord or are willing to try out a new app and learn.
However, not all people are capable of or willing to use a completely separate service for regular updates or "better chatting". Some people might be overwhelmed by larger and significantly more active discord servers where conversations may speed by in real time. This leads to pretty split clan member demographics, and I wouldn't be surprised if it lead to discouragement from participating in on-site clan things as we currently have them.
Of course, this isn't to say All Clan Discord Bad, I'm definitely guilty of preferring Discord as a social space over, well, just about anything. It's also mostly hypotheticals, but it really is just a bit strange to think that right now a good chunk of WD's socializing happens off-site since there's no centralized hangout spaces like clans could provide. Additionally, I would imagine fears of creating toxic environments would be in favor of clans if only because at least those would be on-site, so it would be much more feasible to get moderators involved in necessary situations while on Discord, well, whatever happens on Discord (that is not punishable by law) sort of just stays on Discord, and nothing much can be done.

That section went on for longer than I wanted but uh, last thing I want to say is that one other thing I'd like clans for is to basically just use them as stud books. Yeah, I'm sure there's some threads out there compiling specific types of breeders, but I'd imagine it would be easier to just find a clan of dedicated Epic Base Breeders and just hitting them up from there. Or maybe that's just me projecting my LD experiences.

Anyways, hope this makes sense it is almost 4am on my end, woah

Maybe we could call them packs instead of clans?

Read back a bit, so sorry if any of this was suggested prior:

I think having the option for Goal based Clans/Guilds etc would be awesome. For example, let's take a Clan that wants to focus on breeding wolves with specific goals. (Be it appearance or stats or something of the like) Owners and Admins would be able to set parameters for wolves that can be "registered" with the clan/guild - allowing any Registered wolf to earn a Clan/Guild tag or something of the like to ID it. These parameters can require certain skills being met, certain base categories (ex T3 only or Warm Based only), etc. A overall goal for the clan may or may not be provided. You may enter a casual breeding program who's just looking to share their genes, or maybe you're on a HUNT to develop a Special looking wolf with Top Stats? Either way; clans can be configured to the clans overall goals.

Alternatively for those looking for something maybe more casual, they could set the goal to General Gameplay and get daily clan quests. These quests earn Points towards a weekly leaderboard, so the more people that complete the quests, the higher on the leaderboard you go. Clans placing on the weekly leaderboard could gain a prize of some sort (ex: Raffle things such as Grove Items, GC or SC, Food Hoards, Amusement or Herb bundles, Raffle breeding, etc.)

Within said Clan, registered wolves would be able to Pair Bond with other wolves within the Clan, even if not owned by you. (Would need to be approved by the other wolves owner, however!) Adopted pups would simply go to their respective players pack. This would serve as a immense clan-exclusive benefit in order to diversify a Clans gene pool, without adding potentially unecessary bonuses such as discounted Studdings.

Private Clan Forums would be ideal for planning perfect breeding a with team mates, selling within the Clan before public pup release, etc. Would also be nice to not use Discord!

Clan competition could even be implemented, in which we could have either automated competitions that would calculate winners based off wolves entered stats or more player influenced voting competitions such as "Beauty Pageants" where a aesthetic based clan may find more benefit. Leaderboards reflect said competitions so the clan have a "agreement" of sorts on which wolf is "top dog" in the clan. Alternatively for casual clans, we could simply track who has the most successful hunts, who scouted the most, etc.

Or maybe developing Discipline type competitions would be good for a overall Clan competition instead of clan specific. Territory hosting the competition could also effect the competition difficulty! (Easy terrain = low stat competitions, Challenging terrain = High bar competitions) So if you are in the Taiga, you could host only difficult competitions - but your wolves can enter the competitions they qualify for in any terrain. It costs SC to enter, contributing to a earnings pool that goes up/down in value based on how many wolves are entered.
Ex of Disciplines could be:

Herbalist
✓ Medicine Maker - Stats in Wisdom and Smarts along with Proficiency calculations determine the "fastest, most effecient" Medicine maker. SC, Herbs or Medicine goes to the winner.
✓ Foraging - Stats in Wisdom and Smarts calculate the most effecient Forager. Foraging Disciplines are separated into Packs original territory, as the difficulty of the Terrain affects the difficulty of your Competition. SC, or a Herb Bundle goes to the winner.

Scout
✓ Outrunner - Stats in speed, agility, and strength effect the results. Scout disciplines are sperated into difficulty of the home terrain, the difficulty of terrain effecting the difficulty of competition. SC, Food bundle or Amusement Items go to the winner.
✓ Adventurer - Stats in strength, smarts and Agility effect the results. Home terrain effects difficulty of the competition, SC, or random items go to the winner.

Just some ideas, we could also have things like "Pup-Proffessor" for pupsitters, tracking for hunters, etc.

Am I the only one glad that clans/alliances are not gonna be battle based?
Do folks not realize that battling in this game SUCKS for a lot of folks like, I don't wanna have to deal with that more than I already do in this game. There's other ways to make alliances socially engaging than to push battles, seeing as I'm a player who really does NOT like them and try to avoid them as much as possible unless it's a very simple button click. (Like how LD has you able to attack another person's lion for territory, skill, or EXP, but nobody's suggesting anything like that here, they're suggesting boss battles and stuff that could probably destroy people given battles are STILL heavily RNG based)

Let them stay a social thing rather than battle based. I'm tired of everything being battle-based, have to deal with that enough on LD with their events.

Also can we call them something instead of clans. Clans sounds like a non-wolf group. Alliance actually gives vibes of packs coming together to work together.

I like battling when it's rewarding. I don't do much battling on a daily basis because I can't be that bothered just for the sake of stat grinding, but if there were boss fights or alliance dungeons, I'd be all over that.

(I also disagree that "everything" is battle-based - in fact, this game is super lowkey when it comes to battling. If you want, you can avoid all battle encounters and just explore for toys and other drops. There's practically no focus on battling except during the lunar events, or infrequent "kill x" quests.)
