Trophy drop adjustments for high level leads

Posted 2020-12-20 04:05:13

Definite support! My lead just hit lvl 19 now. I haven't had a trophy drop for me since November 30th and thats with me trying to battle enemies within my level :/ I guess I didn't really notice until the fox items came into play.

I think leads with high levels should get a boost in trophies dropping as a "reward", like others said. After all lvl 10 gets "rewarded" with access to chased wolves and trophies, lvl 15 gets special NBWs, so why not give higher levels some sort of boost as well? Especially since leveling up gets harder and harder as you go along x3

Full support!!!!

I noticed this too. Right after the fox update, in my first Explore session I met 3 different foxes, all very low level (1-5) range. And in the following days I think I can count on my fingers the number of foxes I've met that could give me, with a lead at lv 16, a chance of getting a trophy.

I thought that exploring in harder biomes would result in higher leveled foxes, like it usually happens with other type of enemies, but it seems to me that it wasn't the case...

I like the challenge of getting trophies, but I think we need a better distribution of high level foxes. Maybe having a higher chance to met them in more difficult biomes...

This suggested solution would definitely fix the issue of not meeting foxes within your level range.

- At level 16, I met grey foxes at level 18.

- Now at level 17, the highest one I've met was 16, but the average fox I run into seems to be level 8-11.

Support. Also like the idea of any enemy over level 10+ drops trophies regardless of levels,  and more drops in general the higher your level is. Players should be rewarded for reaching higher levels, not penalized.

Honestly I'd like more drop rates in general. I checked my log before the fox recipe came out-from 12/3 to 12/13 (10 days) I got 7 trophies of random items. I have had 0 since 12/13. From 12/15 to 12/17 I fought 32 foxes, with only 18 of those within 5 of my level since I don't know that was a thing until last couple of days. 7 meat chunks or sc from those 18. From 12/18 to 12/20 14 foxes within the correct level = 6 meat chunks or sc. Not a single trophy of any kind since 12/13. And I spend way more time on here than the average player.

At this rate maybe sometime 2-3 years from now I may have a chance to get the items needed to make the base. Assuming I ever find the recipe.  I mean I love that this game is hard, but I think that's a bit too much.

supporting solely cause SOMETHING need to level this rng in combat. trophies are cool but they really don't encourage much combat for me personally. THE FOX STUFF however DOES. but grinding for trophies, even though im a lower level, will probably mean im 100 (in age) before i get anywhere near finding a trophy for the recipe, nevermind the recipe itself. there's rarely anything super useful to be gained from combat in general. and most of the rewards i get from battle are meat chunks. nice for small amounts of silver and not much else. and even then, i am pretty sure the resource vs. rewards factor is definitely not paying off in my favor.

i should add, i DO want to see wolvden succeed. but trophies and combat in general need some sort of reworking

Partial support - I do agree that finding enemies in the right level range is a challenge, and that challenge becomes unreasonable for very high level players, so something should be done to balance that. But I think the original suggestion - "trophies can be earnable from any enemies that are level 10+" - could unbalance the game in the other direction, with lower level players having a lot of difficulty and probably having to spend a lot of lucky feet to have a chance with the enemies, and high level players being able to easily smash through enemies 10 levels below them and still get trophies (considering high level wolves already have considerable other benefits).

I suggest either balancing the RNG and making it strictly impossible to encounter enemies a certain number of levels outside of your own (even if that's a 7 level range, with trophies still being restricted to a 5 level range, you're more likely to run into trophy targets than not) or making the enemy level more strongly tied to the biomes. I guess there's already some correlation, because I'm run into lvl 24 water moccasins in the swamp and sure haven't seen anything that hard in the deciduous forest, but I've also run into lvl 4 ocelots in the rainforest and imo that just shouldn't be possible in a "challenging" biome. Maybe 15 minimum? There can still be difficulty variance, like I'd assume a lvl 15 ocelot would be an easier fight than a lvl 15 grizzly bear, but it would still mean a lvl 20 player would be guaranteed enemies within trophy range if they're fighting in a challenging biome. (similarly, maybe a lvl 15 maximum on the easy biomes)

And I should note that the biome approach would balance ok with foxes, since the grouse house battle encounter sheet notes red foxes in every biome except desert and glacier, and gray foxes in the swamp and rainforest in addition to the easy biomes, so both lvl 10 and lvl 20 players would be able to pick biomes to grind within their ideal lvl range. Some attention would have to be paid to balance in future releases too, but ultimately I think it would be worthwhile.

@duskpaws-I like your idea of harder enemies tied to the more difficult biomes. It's harder to hunt there, so makes sense everything else should be harder in general.

You claim that trophies can be dropped from enemies 5 levels below the wolf. It could be true for 20 level wolf, but what about wolves with lower levels? As far as I analyzed this thread, I realized trophies, meat, healing salves, SC and stat boosts can be dropped from enemies 3 levels below the wolf for most medium leveled wolves. In case of high leveled wolves, enemies with level at least 15 always have chance for loot. As far as I've been aware fighting enemies with 4 or 5 levels lower than my medium leveled wolf, they've never dropped anything.

Support. I rarely find trophies now that my lead is level 20.

Support! If not changing the trophy drop rate to enemies over level 10, then perhaps some sort of rng change to make higher level enemies more common the higher your lead's level is? Mine just hit 17 recently, and it's so frustrating to only come across foxes/canines in the 1-10 range- mostly in the 1-5 range. I hardly ever encounter enemies close to my level, which yes, does indeed make trophy gathering immensely frustrating.

I understand that it's supposed to be difficult, especially since tier three bases are supposed to be "special." But it almost feels impossible at times!

*EDIT* It also feels like it favors players who are able to pay to play. Obviously players who can drop money on GC and consequently Guarana/Trophy Items/Applicators will have the major upperhand.
