Trophy drop adjustments for high level leads

Posted 2020-12-28 13:44:15

I’ve had terrible luck with drops! I haven’t gotten a single one since the release and what I have now is what I’ve bought. I just can’t earn anything on my own. Foxes in my range at most have dropped meat chunks, but that’s it. I have to admit that I’m becoming frustrated.

Bumping this post as I believe something really should be done about this. I understand it’s supposed to be difficult to get trophy items but high level lead wolves should not have a disadvantage. Leveling your lead should be encouraged.

Another potential ”fix” for this would be to increase the trophy drop rate for high level enemies. At level 20 you would still only rarely encounter level 16-20 enemies, but when you do you are more likely to get a trophy from them, than if you’re level 14 and battle a level 12 enemy. Does that makes sense? :)

I'm against ideas to flat out make trophies more common. Their rarity are as good as they're for now - either you need to be devoted in trophy hunting or buy it from other players. Especially fox materials, tier III bases shouldn't be available for every Wolvden member. Even now I seem to be worried about some stud prices for Fox bases being too low. I had fun buying materials for desired Fox base for high prices that I could barely afford.

Therefore, if trophy hunting is to become more versatile, trophy drop chance should be decreased as adjustment to balance out the rarity of trophies. The only disadvantage that I see with high leveled wolves trophy hunting is that some creatures can't be hunted for trophies and those trophies are only obtainable either by retiring lead wolf and setting somewolf less leveled or buying them from other players. However, high leveled wolves have the greatest level range below their own level to hunt for trophies so they have advantage of fighting much weaker creatures than themselves and still get trophies from them.

Most of the data we have seen is that the fox trophies are only dropped within 3 levels below your level though, or over it. If you are level 20 there is nothing below it, so that gives only level 17-20 for you to get anything in. At level 10 you can potentially get them from level 7-20 - That is a lot more possibilities than a level 20 would have. The request for higher drops at the highest levels is only to offset that.

I retired my lead a week or so ago and when I hit level 10 I started getting trophies again finally. I hadn't had any from 12/13 to 12/25 when I was level 17 (12 days with nothing) - since then between level 10 and 13 where I'm at now I've had 12. I'm not doing anything differently- there are just more possible encounters that will drop for me at this lower level. I'm not even really trying too hard to level up because I know I will see less and less the higher I get. That seems counterintuitive to me.

So what is the actual range? The OP says it's 5 levels below, it's just been claimed that it's always been 3 levels below. From another thread I mentioned I saw somebody reporting stat boost on 19lvl wolf from 15lvl enemy.

Support.

Idk if this has been mentioned but there are also some lower-level enemies to run into that never seem to be above level 10 like bobcats and such, so maybe make higher level versions of those too.

In response to the discussion above me, and going off what others have said before, why not adjust the enemy spawn rate with enemies leveled closer to your lead? The trophy drop rate could stay rare/exactly the same, but that way there's at least more of a CHANCE when you're higher leveled.

Like Snowcat said, it's pretty terrible that a level 10 lead has a seemingly better chance of obtaining trophies than a level 20. Because, it certainly seems like enemies within the 5-15 range spawn the most frequently, therefore putting lower leads at more of an advantage. So if the system was more balanced, and made higher level enemies more common the higher your lead got, I think that would be suitable.

Also, I both agree and disagree with the sentiment that tier three bases shouldn't be available to every member. They should, but the challenge to obtain them should definitely be there like you're saying. You know what I think is actually already killing the market and making tier three bases way too obtainable? Pay to play. For the players who can afford to spend real money on tons of GC, they're easily snatching fox bases and consequently breeding tier threes into commonality.

So, if anything, the whole GC issue needs to be addressed too. Like maybe trophy items can't be sold/traded, effectively making it fairer/more challenging all across the board? Something along those lines.

Support! I was already nervous about pay to play becoming a problem in this game, but I'm seeing people searching for trophy items for the fox base at honestly ridiculous amounts of GC because finding them is so difficult people would rather pay a ridiculous amount of real-life money to get the items. At that rate, the only possible balancing options seem to be either sell the base for GC directly or adjust the trophy drop rate or battle system somewhat. I think balancing the battle system is the better option for what they're trying to achieve here.

Support, this suggestion has a twin post now and I gave my reason to support over there. Oops!

Edit: "Support. I have noticed that I do not have the same "luck" with trophies as I did when my lead was lower level. Since the fox applicator was implemented I have been fighting enemies consistently and only have recieved 2 trophies (neither of with were applicators, just common body parts). I am not including the healing salves in the trophy tally.

I haven't just been hunting foxes either. I've been farming stats and collecting trophies from every species so will fight any enemy that is close to or over my level. So even fighting anything within the trophy level cutoffs, I am not seeing nearly as many rewards as I have previously."

Edit 2: Apparently, I already replied to this post with my support awhile back. Derp!
