The world has crumbled, literally. The world is filled with sinkholes. Many cities have fallen completely into the center of the earth, killing massive amounts of the population and making many parts of the world unaccusable. Oceans are at risk of draining, people are panicking and turning on one another. And to top it all off, with the fall of many countries we knew and loved war is rampant, government has fallen and lost control to the people, and crime is widespread. You are following the story of two young adults, teenagers who were born into this world, born post 21st century and post "Fall" They have grown up without the use of phones, technology, modern medicine and the recent government. They grew up during  militia take overs and riots. They grew up during world hunger crisis and global crime spikes. They know this world better then anyone, and they are here to navigate survival.

ABOUT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN

LOCALLY

You find yourself in a town called Jawperc, a larger town filled with many abandoned buildings. The town sits nestled in the middle of the rocky mountains, located somewhere in North America, where the country of Canada used to be. The town is quaint, filled with around 50 people. Food here is hunted, traded for, or purchased using coins, buttons, and other forms of usable currency. Canadian Dollars and American Dollars do not exist here, instead people often trade.

It was a harsh and cruel landscape. Bundled in furs, trudging along in the snow ridden wastes, a young man held tight a book to his chest. He followed someone before him, he in a black trench coat, hair pulled back into a ponytail, and rifle out and at the ready. His eyes roved over the landscape, the trees thick and hiding any form of potential danger. Tracks here and there told him that there were only animals passing through, but the fallout had changed plenty of them into strange, irradiated monsters. Justin stared at the world before him, he glancing back to make sure that his little brother, whom he had adopted, was still there. The cold seemed to bother Shawn far more than it did him. Regardless, he turned towards the north, a heavy sigh given. He shook his head, and continued on. The meat that they carried would be good for a while longer, still. It was cured, meaning it could be with them for weeks at a time, thankfully.

The wind swept through the trees, causing Shawn to pull the furs around him tighter momentarily. He paused only when Justin did, and even then, he followed in his footsteps. They came to the north in the hopes they'd find other people. Far to the south, people were still being...well, people. Looting, gangs recruiting, cities becoming plague ridden... It was horrible. America had been one of the first nations to fall during the war, a war that many could not remember. Rumors  crept around that people were still testing things out, but who knew what. All Justin knew was that he was goign to protect his brother at any cost. And his map told him there was a town not far off that they could raid for supplies, hopefully. It was just a matter ofgetting there, and getting out, before anyone noticed....

The town, as they came to it, was empty. Shutters and doors banged in the wind, a hollow sound upon their ears. Justin glanced at his brother, motioned him to stay hidden. Rifle strapped to his back, he soon tore off into the town, staying crouched low, and moving from building to building. What was he going to find here...?

The air was crisp and the wind was howling outside off of the peeks of mountains thousands of feet above their roofs. She heard the shutters banging and saw specks of light peeking through the cracks in the door. Fallon blinked, long dark lashes fluttering as she woke up slowly. She swallowed, noticing how dry her throat was from the crisp air. She pulled her blanket up to her chin quickly before deeply inhaling the very faint distant smells of family. It hadn't been more then a year since her mother had passed, nearly three years prior her father. She was alone, and had been for some time. It turned her small two bedroom home into an empty shell of the distant past.

As she sat up, she picked her shirt off of the wooden slat floor, dusting it off before pulling it over her head and over her shoulders. She stood, arching her back into a stretch before padding over to the fireplace which was faintly smoldering. She tossed some thin dry pine strips in and cupped her cold hands around her mouth. Blowing slowly she began to notice the pale embers light up and tiny flames danced up to lick at the dry kindling. They hungrily snatched at the timber lighting a small burning fire that devoured the kindling up quickly, insisting on being fed more. Fallon set some larger split logs on the small burning fire and felt the flush of heat rise and warm the air beside her. The fire lit up the dark closed up room, projecting dancing amber colours across the pale wooden walls.

She glanced over at the front door of the house, scanning to verify her jacket, bag, and bow had been hung up on their hooks and ready to leave at the slightest moment in time. Sitting back to rock on her heels she surveyed her food stores to check her quota for the week. Across the northern wall of the home she had dried cured meat, drying herbs and bags of root vegetables sitting beside stacks of cans and jars of preserved fruits. They were what, two months before snow fall? And Fallon sighed at her dwindling supplies, this would not last her the winter, she needed to forage as much as possible in order to be able to feed herself for the winter, keeping food was hard these days with the lootings. If you left your home it was likely to be broken into seconds upon your departure. She was fortunate enough to live on the slight outskirts of town, near the entrance mouth to the small clearing in which the town was located. She was able to see anyone approaching her home before they even knew the town was abandoned. The only outside sign she was living in town was the thin plume of smoke arising from her chimney.

Justin was eyeing the smoke, thin as it was, that rose from the chimney. Eyes narrowed, and he looked towards the other buildings. Was this town occupied? Or just the one house? Who was dumb enough to light a fire out here when there were bad people? Animals that loved the taste of human flesh? And, worse yet, the mutated beasts that seemed to be almost compiled of more than one animal, as if some person had experimented on them. Still, he looked back towards the treeline hiding his brother. Shawn had a pistol of his own and a knife to protect himself, just in case. After a few moments, he decided to avoid the house. There was no need to intrude upon whoever was there, and it was hardly worth it to find out who was here anyway.

Instead, he began to move towards one of the more generalized buildings that had once clearly been a store. He wanted, needed, to know if this town was truly abandoned. He flitted about as if a ghost. A quick dash, a shadow, and he was gone. Justin knew how to remain hidden. At one point, to his delight, he had found a ladder leading to a roof top, where he went to take the high ground and watch. This was his territory now, his element. Oh yes. He could see everything from up here, and very few people ever looked up.... He took out his binoculars, and looked about the town. He was searching for life aside from the one house, but it was the only one that had smoke coming out.... How strange... Were they alone? Gah. He didn't need stragglers to look after.... Shawn was his priority.

Fallon sat down at her plain wood table, setting a small bowl of bland looking oats mixed with dried berries. She ate, licking every bit of the beige food from her spoon and savouring every second she was able to eat. Food was scarce and whatever she could eat to maintain her expelled energy she savoured. These oats she had found from a store designed as feed for horses were bland, chalky and slightly repulsive but they were food and they kept her belly warm in the coming crisp fall months.

Once the house was warm enough that the risen hairs sat back down flush against her skin she fanned down the fire to a small smoulder once more. The world outside once again was silent and eery. Besides Fallon three other people lived in Jawperc. They all tended to avoid eachother and keep to themselves, the raiders who had destroyed and ravaged most of the town did not stay, instead after they had trashed what they wanted they moved on. This town was sort of a safe haven for the few surviving townsfolk.

Stepping into her worn leather boots, she curled her toes at the cold slightly damp feeling. She kicked herself internally for not moving her boots closer to the fire last night. Alas she had to keep moving. Today she would attempt some more small harvests, rabbits, grouse, perhaps a pheasant or two? To hang and dry or cure for the harsh coming months. She slung her black stained wooden long bow over her back and flicked the deadbolt off on the door. It creaked as she tugged the door open.

He cursed softly to himself as he saw the town waking up. One, two, three... More and more people began to tentatively pour out of their homes as the dawn stretched upwards, lighting the sky more and more brilliantly with each passing minute. They couldn't stay here. Rough as he was, Justin did not believe in confrontation if he could avoid it. Now he just had to get back to his little brother without being seen. The problem was he was wearing black. The good news was he was extremely street smart. He knew to take the discreet route. Leaping off the top of the roof with ease, he began to head the way back to Shawn that was safest. No need for him to draw attention to the more timid man, honestly.

Slowly, but surely, he began to make his way back when he paused, staring at the first house that he had seen 'wake up', so to speak. There stood a young woman. She couldn't be much older than he was. A frown graced his features, but he soon slipped away. They'd watch the town for the day, and come back in the night to see if they couldn't at least find something that didn't belong to anyone....

((ahhhhh i replied to this on my phoneeeeee sobsssss.... i guess it never posted oops))

Fallon inhaled deeply as the crisp cold air danced off her nose and lips. Her eyelids quivered slightly at the bite of the cold, but she adjusted quickly and continued to walk on. The packed dirt road crunched with frost under her leather boots, leaving faint thudding sounds in the still air. She proceeded on to one of the side streets that moved towards central town, noticing a few other folks moving about in their yards. She nodded to a few of them as she passed. Most people here just avoided eachother but nobody was purposely hostile. Hell she didnt even remember if she had even spoken to them.

She had felt the feeling of being watched throughout her journey through town, she pondered the thought in her mind before pretending to ignore it. If someone was watching her, the safest thing was for them to believe they had not been noticed. She tightened her grip on the bow string nervously, the only outlook of fear she produced was the faint tremble in her fingers as she squeezed the string. Her bow still draped over her shoulder.

(It happens all the time. I'm used to it. XD)

To say the least, Justin was far from blind if anything. He was watching most of the towns folk from his safe perch, binoculars focusing now and again upon the people. She was the only one aware anyone was watching. A faint smile came to his lips at seeing her trembling fingers, but he didn't move. Being a sniper, he could easily detach himself from his emotions. It wasn't that hard, really, especially in this world. Instead, he glanced towards where his little brother lay bundled up, clutching a worn, leather Bible to him as he read it softly to himself. Silly boy... Ah, well, he wasn't going to squash that. Shrugging his shoulders, he then looked towards the town again, followed the inhabitants as they moved about.

Not very friendly towards each other are they? He thought grimly to himself. It made him wonder if they'd ever seen the horrors of the much larger towns. He himself had come from Seattle, along with Shawn. They had, by themselves, managed to trudge their way down to Texas, and then headed up north. The fallout had affected everyone, but especially the animals, and with the rumor mill still, somehow, alive, he'd heard tale of an origination of scientists utilizing the affected creatures for... Strange things... What things, he didn't know... Still, he just watched the woman, Fallon, on and off. He had no real interest in the people of the town, but people watching was always fun.

(Short post for now. 👀)

Fallon kept walking. She didn’t care that someone was watching her. She was curious though who they were and why they came this far North. She had heard horror stories about The Fall in the south, people rioting. The ground being swallowed while leaving massive empty pits.

She continued to walk on, approaching the treed edge of the town. She looked around one last time before slipping inside. Will they follow me? She wondered before disappearing into the dark pine covered forest. Bow pulled off her shoulder and clutched loosely in her hands ready to hunt.

(Been a hectic day, sorry. DX)

Would he? Why? Justin merely watched her going into the forest. It was where he and Shawn were hidden, and rather well. He was far from stupid to stay in a town he didn't know about. Then again, he came from the big cities. Those were dangerous, and he treated any place as such a thing. He merely let her move off, but after some few moments, he got an... Odd feeling. He frowned some, watched the towns folk. Why had they suddenly rushed into their houses? It was then that he heard the silence. Silence...

"Shawn!" he hissed.

The younger man looked up, startled, but did as told, though there were no words. He scrambled up the nearest tree, and watched as Justin leaped down. He was an excellent tracker, and moved off to follow where Fallon had gone. He had to find her before it found her... Whatever it even was. All he knew was that the mutated creatures were highly volatile, and extremely dangerous...
