She looked at him, eyes full of possible hope. “What do you mean rumours? Where do they say is safe.” She bit her lip with anxiety and pondered the idea. Would it be worth leaving familiar territory to find permanent safety? Possibly? What if I end up wandering alone, far from home. Then what? Justice clearly doesn’t take well to other company.

"Hm? ... Well, rumor has it there's a safe haven somewhere overseas. I heard it from a passing traveler when we were trading. I had furs he needed to travel to the north. He had food we needed to keep going. This place... It won't last long with the few folks that are here..." he answered, a soft sigh given. He felt for them, but he had Shawn to look after. "I've been searching for a working vehicle. Think I may have found one a few towns over, but I've been scavenging for supplies to get it up and running. Shawn is one heck of a kid. Knows his crap well from the books he's read. Got a mind like none other, too. He can fix just about anything. Cars, equipment... Injuries."

(Perfect timing hehe)

Her eyes opened wide as he mentioned a working vehicle and a way to leave. What a dream. She thought to herself. The possibility to get somewhere safe. Where she could be around people again. “When will you head out?” She smiled limply at him. That’s just a pipe dream. I can’t clearly think they would want me along. “I don’t have a lot but if you like you can take some of my food.”

He shook his head at this. "No, but thank you. We're doing good, honestly. Been holding over for a good while now. But thank you. So, tell me... What do you plan on doing? There's not a lot of people here," he remarked. Justin had, at this point, put his knife away in its holster at his boot. The piece had been put into his satchel. She wasn't planning on staying was she? He did want to know what she was planning to do at this rate. The poor thing... She definitely seemed lonely....

She shrugged loosely, pondering the ideas in her head before replying. “I don’t have anywhere to go or to be. I may as well stay where I know I’m comfortable and safe.” She trailed off before stifling a massive sigh. She hugged her legs closer, so much was happening in one day that made her small world crumble and her tight walls crash down. She didn’t like change or to step out of routine. She knew she could make the winter with what she had in her stores, but to live your life alone was something that humans were not designed to do

(Apologies for the delay. I didn't have time to get on yesterday, so I didn't bother with rollover.)

Justin looked to her then, a brow risen. "It's hard enough to survive on your own, but... Why haven't any of these people here banded together? You all live in the same town, but act total strangers." He had been watching them all day after all. It was a strange concept. Even people in the big cities made gangs to survive. It was... Pathetic, sometimes, but a cruel necessity.... He was just shocked to find nothing of the sort here.

(Oh don’t worry about it! I feel you!)

”We practically are strangers. People here are nervous after the raids. It’s hard to trust anyone anymore” She nodded her head, it was sad and lonely to live in a town of ghosts. “I have basically survived alone. They are here but we don’t do much to help one another.” She shrugged. It’s what she knew, she didn’t know any other way.

He snorted heavily at this. Justin glanced back into the room where Shawn was. Trust was hard earned these days... "But if no one tries... You'll all eventually perish... Be it from the weather, or the animals. If you're looking for a new life, you need to leave." He hesitated a moment, frowned a bit. "We... Are leaving, Shawn and I. Once the weather clears up. That'd be your best chance, too. Once we're gone? ... I reckon the pass will be swallowed with snow soon enough."

She nodded, chuckling under her breath. “Sure that pass freezes up every winter. There are ways around it you just have to know them.” She nodded her head, taking in his words. She got hopeful when he brought up her needing to leave. Her hope was sliced when he finished “we are leaving, Shawn and I” that answered my question. He doesn’t want other mouths to feed and feet to follow. She nodded to him. “I’ll be fine whatever happens. Don’t worry.”

A brow rose at this. "Mean you're declining the offer to join? I've only ever offered it once before." Likely he meant Shawn. It was hard to tell, because he didn't elaborate. There was no need to do so. "If you want to go, I suggest packing what you need. Nothing more." Justin then got to his feet and moved back into the other room with Shawn. They'd been traveling for some time, and a dry place to sleep... It would be nice.
