Pack Information

~Numachi Pack~

The Numachi territory stretches over a wide piece of marshland, swamps, and waterways. The wolves here have become accustomed to the mud-covered, semi-aquatic lifestyle and are highly skilled predators both in and out of the water. They compete for food with alligators that inhabit the area... it's not uncommon for wolves to be missing a limb or tail after encountering these giant reptiles. Thankfully, after generations of feuding with the gators and crocs, they have learned how to properly fight them off and essentially dominate the water. The Numachi Pack has made a skill of killing, skinning, and eating the predators. The hides are often used for camouflage when swimming and hunting as they are less likely to be noticed by gators, potential prey, or enemy wolves. They also make decorations out of these skins, as well as bones they find throughout the swamp or anything else they can get their paws on.
Numachi camp is nestled by a massive, ancient, hollow cypress tree (Ancient Swamp Tree BG). It sits on the edge of a small island to protect the pack from threats. Half of the tree's roots are exposed and expand into the murky water, creating a protected cove inside the tree for wolves to swim up to. (Spies in this territory would face the challenge of avoiding swamp predators, concealing their muddy tracks, and swimming. A determined spy may be able to walk on top of fallen tree trunks, leap from rock to rock, or steal a reptile skin to swim in.)
Personality-wise, the Namachi wolves have a lot of rough-edges. They often have sarcastic, dry senses of humor, and are all realists, as opposed to optimistic or pessimistic. Plus, they have no qualms about starting meaningless fights and ruffling feathers because they finish them just as quickly. As the saying goes, 'The Namachi will be at your throat during sunrise, but by your side come sundown." meaning that they don't hold grudges, they're just all chaotic. They also rely heavily on physical communication and are commonly found tackling, shoving, or play-biting their packmates. The pack values family and have a tight-knit, over-protective culture. They rarely accept outsiders, and it's rarer that an outsider survives a day in their swamp.

~Yama Pack~

As the closest to the sky, they are also the closest to their ancestors. They are rugged and powerful with generally a mysterious vibe towards the other packs- considering that their terrain is so rugged, not many can sneak into their camp to gather intel. Because they might seem so rugged, the others might view them as savages, like trolls lurking in the clouds. Truth be told, the Yama are very enlightened, highly in-tune with their ancestors. They believe in peace and enlightenment over war. They are great storytellers who value their history because they love their ancestors and family above anything else. Wolves value going down in Yama history, and try to do so by making a name for themselves by being good-natured and as helpful as possible to their pack, be it as great hunters, brave warriors, or clever storytellers.
Members are typically calm and serene with a very wise air to them. However, like the wind, they can be fickle. They are rightfully distrustful of wolves not in their own pack, for they spread poor rumors about them. The Yama are reclusive and secretive, and therefore, they get painted as savages. Of course, they aren't keen on outsiders.
However,
when an exiled wolf comes into their territory, it's a little different. To a select few, perhaps chosen by the ancestors, they are welcoming. They are willing to help a very little paw-full of wolves seek enlightenment to become better individuals at heart.

~Heiya Pack~

The Heiya have always been at odds with their neighbors, the Shinrin. The Heiya pack is anxious towards outsiders due to frequent raids lead by barbaric Shinrin wolves. However, the Heiyan wolves are masters of disguise and are infamous for being two-faced whenever necessary. They happen to be extremely patriotic at heart, valuing the relationship between families and friends within their close-knit pack. When it comes to one and other, they are very accepting of their packmates and seem to celebrate differences between individuals. As a result, they are willing to fight to the death to protect those they care for, even if they're considered to be "spineless and easy pickings" to the other packs.
Yet, the Heiya pack is still very humble and is skeptical about any help that might be offered. How can they not, when other packs are eager to lead raids at their doorstep? In such a way, they can be considered estranged among the other packs, perhaps a little arrogant when it comes to other packs being in need. The Heiya pack is all about the pack itself- they are family, and family does not get left behind. These wolves do not trust easy- earning their respect is a task most difficult.

~Shinrin Pack~

The Shinrin run and act as barbaric animals, and as a result, the pack of the woodland is seen as such: animals. They are considered highly uncivilized and are never to be trusted. Shinrin wolves come from all walks of life, be it formerly exiled wolves, or wolves from far away. The band of canines is quite loosely run, with disputes frequently breaking out. What can be agreed on is that they love to live on the edge, and will never hesitate to resort to "brutal" mechanisms in order to get by for the day. They are thieves and bandits, and while their territory might seem pretty and generally serene, the pack is everything but. Entering their domain is considered dangerous and foolish. Some may enter, but not all leave.
However, the Shinrin is likely the most accepting of outsiders, assuming the new faces are willing to get their paws dirty. At heart, this band of wolves is very hardworking, although perhaps not always the most polite towards each other when it comes to dinner time. But when it comes to working together, they can get tasks done like a well-oiled machine (assuming all disputes are taken care of prior). Most anyone is welcome to join the pack, so long as they can pull their weight. Slacking will not be tolerated here. If you're going to run with the wolves, you need to work like one.

~INTRODUCTION~
(acknowledgments to Ketsueki the bearded vulture)
A bearded vulture flew above the island known to the Canis Lupus' which ruled it as the Lands of Konran. It had been called this for centuries, much before any of them could remember. It, to this day, has not been discovered by humans at all. The wolves did not know why, but this devil-eyed buzzard did. The island, past its terrifyingly tall mountainous borders, was circled by the thickest ring of fog known to be. Surely, any man venturing within it would get lost and most likely die before he got out.

Creating a strange noise in the back of its throat, the vulture circled the sky slowly, examining the different territories. There was the "Yama Pack", made up of wolves closest to their ancestors, dwelling in the mountains. The "Heiya Pack", made up of wolves quite cunning and mysterious, living down in the plains and hills. The "Shinrin Pack", made up of somewhat welcoming wolves within the serene, scenic forests. Finally, the "Numachi Pack", the dark and ruthless wolves that spent their days in the marshes of Konran.

-NUMACHI-
With a slight chuckle, the red-gazed aviary flew down to the Numachi territory, landing on a thick swamp cypress branch, high above the murky waters below. A slow movement rippled the waters and his eyes fixated themselves on a couple of furred creatures. The alpha female of the Numachi pack, who the bird had come to know as Kunshu, was swimming with her delta, Ugai, swimming strongly behind her, holding two plump moorhens by their necks within his maw. They ducked under the roots of the giant hollow cypress, crawling up onto the grass of their camp island, shaking out their furs. The delta went and placed the moorhens in a pile of prey, while the alpha female went over to her den, ducking into it without a word to any of her packmates.

-SHINRIN-
The bearded vulture lifted off of his branch, flying over the swampy seas. Finally, where marsh ended and regular grass began, he crossed into Shinrin territory. He dipped down, closer to the tops of the trees. Suddenly, he was circling above a large clearing, where the wolves in Shinrin pack were bustling about. He could see the sole alpha, Alaska, looking over her pack happily, yet he knew that she wanted deeply to change the past views of her "barbaric" pack. She knew they were much more, as did the aviary. The lead hunter, by the name of Sugi, walked up to her slowly, his tail wagging lightly as he offered his alpha a giant great horned owl, its lifeless body hanging from his jaws. Ruffling his feathers uncomfortably, the sharp-eyed bird moved along, gliding across the oaks and pines with ease.

-YAMA-
Beating his wings, the large bird climbed up the slopes of the mountain where the Yama pack lived. As he reached an area about midpoint between the peak and the base of the mountain, he could see some wolves coming out of their dens, yapping happy greetings to one another. The platform they lived on was an overhang that had grown off of the mountain that wrapped all the way around, perfect for surveying the land around them. It was accessible from a circling sloped path winding down the mountain. Some parts of it went into the mountain while other parts were hugging the walls of the wonderful structure. Red eyes examined the pack, and he picked out the young alpha of the pack, Sirius. An extremely small scout, in comparison to the other adults, walked up to him, exchanging news of her dawn patrol around the mountain. As a cold breeze whisked past the bird's body, he shuddered, fluffing up his feathers, and he headed down the other side of the mountain, towards the golden grasses.

-HAIYA-
The wolves of Haiya were emerging from large holes in the ground, designed to exemplify those of rabbits and hares. Upon further inspection, the aviary found a lone tree to land on. It looked like a cottonwood. Making himself comfortable, for his wings were beginning to sore after flying across the whole of Konran, the vulture watched the pack life of Haiya rise like the warming sun. The proud alpha, Hokori, sitting beside a huntress by the name of Hansha. He was most likely talking to her about her hunting status as of now. He knew that the alpha preferred to talk to his packmates by themselves instead of asking their captain, which would be the lead hunter in this she-wolf's situation, for he felt that it brought him closer to them.

Finally, with a quiet sigh, the golden, black-winged bird tucked his beak into his chest. As the sun began to climb above the bordering mountains, the buzzard began his quiet length of sleep...

Ugai (Numachi, Delta Male, Location: Numachi Camp)

His dark pelt blended in with the ferns that he sat next to, for they were cast in shadow. Ugai looked up from surveying his paws after contributing to the pack's supply of prey. His white eyes cast a fleeting glance over the pile of prey and stopped to rest on a brown and black she-wolf. He didn't look her in the eyes, but rather admired the markings on her pelt. She was the beta, after all, and he was the delta. Reminded of his dripping wet pelt, he raised himself from the ground and stretched. Ugai eyed the ferns, decided whether they were dry so that he could rub off the water that was soaking his fur. he found a clump to his liking, and lay down in them, stretching and rubbing them against his pelt. Ugai soon found that the ferns were quite soft, and lay there, on his back, staring up at the archways of branches above his head. Closing his eyes, the wolf breathed in the scent of the ferns, and drifted into a light sleep.

Hansha (Heiya, Huntress, Location: Heiya Camp)

Hansha sat next to the sizeable furred wolf, and attentively listened to his voice. He had come to her to talk about her current position as a huntress, and Hansha truly didn't expect anything. She was delighted to have the alpha speak to her, and she showed this by remaining attentive, instead of gazing off into the distance, watching a fly dance in the air. Her brown tail twitched and she curled it under her to stop it from twitching more, all the while gazing at the alpha, Hokori, in respect.

Character: Alaska (Alpha Female of Shinrin Pack)Location: Shinrin Pack's territory

A titanic rock, painted a silvery grey, jutted out of the leaf-covered ground. It pointed skyward, with a flat top and several ridges to climb on. And on top of the rock, a she-wolf, lean and lithe as a leopard, licked her paw idly as her feathery tail waved rhythmically behind her. Icy eyes regarded the clearing below as wolves walked around, conducting their daily business. "A bunch of savages...hmph." muttered the she-wolf to herself. Her pack was well known as the forest brutes, who would kill anyone who came into their territory without a second thought. And to a degree, it was true. But Alaska intended to change that- she was going to keep their strength, and add some degree of civilization. After all, this was Alaska's pack for her entire life- or so she had thought. Alaska never thought it odd that she was unlike her packmates...that she wasn't savage, she wasn't brutal. She simply had never thought about it. But regardless, because Alaska believed it was her birth pack, it hurt her to see them have such a reputation.

She nimbly climbed down from the huge rock and picked up a tiny rabbit in the prey area. Alaska chewed through the rabbit and swallowed it quickly, savoring the taste. While it was more a quick bite than a meal, Alaska wasn't particularly hungry, and this was just breakfast. Not only that, but she believed the bigger prey should go to her packmates. Getting bored around the camp area, Alaska decided to head out and explore. Her pack could handle itself while she was gone. Perhaps the young she-wolf could even get in a small solo hunt to feed her pack just a bit more. She was sure that the Shinrin pack wouldn't mind another bite to eat, even if they weren't low on food.
"I'll be back soon," said Alaska to no one in particular. "Just going out to hunt." The she-wolf had been an excellent hunter for her entire life- as she was able to mimic the sounds of animals, she could call animals over to her, pretending to be that animal. When the prey realized what was happening, it was already too late for it. Although, hunting without special powers was certainly more fun. Glancing back at the pack one last time, Alaska treaded out of camp silently.

Trish | She/her | Numachi Beta | Location: Camp

The wolf made merry as she gobbled down the delicate meat of a crane, something that one of the hunters had brought back earlier. She relished in her position as beta- as somewhat of a seductress, she could easily calm spirits to convince any potential rivals to join her side (her strange charm abilities only helped as well). When it came to those below her, her reputation for ferocity proceeded her. Trish was diving into her meal when she felt a gaze burn into the muddiness of her coat, causing the beta to abruptly raise her head. It was none other than the delta, glancing in her direction. Interested, was he?

But this delta, he was below her. A conquest of power was about moving up, not down. Besides, Trish was feeling particularly hungry, and had no interest in any uninvited company attempting to steal away her meal. With her eyes dilating, Trish peeled back her lips to reveal a blood-thirsty set of fangs to ward off the delta. When he moved on to roll, she returned to her meal, carefully plucking away the feathers in a delicate fashion. Such a façade- she was anything but elegant.

Sirius | he/him | Yama Alpha | Location: Outside Alpha den

His heart still felt heavy since the death of his beloved mother. Day in an day out, he was reminded of the sudden and recent loss of the companionship of his parents- or at least the companionship of his mother, anyways. His father's gaze had always been filled with nothing but a devoid of satisfaction. Sirius was a disappointment in his eyes, a seemingly powerless alpha pup. Sirius, however, find both promise and despair in his reoccurring dreams of his fellow packmates. They plagued his sleep, kept him from feeling restful with the troubles they sometimes brought. It was wishful thinking, but perhaps these dreams were the first sign of potential power? He could move the wind to his will, as most Yama could, but his little "games" were anything but impressive to his father.

The wind tugged almost playfully at the charcoal coat of the alpha, with the mist wrapping around his paws and making them feel cool. It was dawn, and still he felt as if it was the same day, the same mournful scene where he lost his parents. He did not feel as if he was prepared for alpha-ship, no matter how much his mother argued otherwise. He felt too young and too inexperienced.

Sirius closed his pair of pale eyes. Am I even awake? It was a horrible sensation to have, the inability to distinguish reality from hallucination. The dreams, the nightmares...they came so frequently. Sometimes, even during mid-day.

Taki | Female (she/her) | Numachi pack | Warrior | Location: Camp | Mentions: None

The female wolf left her den, she felt rested from the pleasant slumber she had in the night. She would love to stay in her den and sleep some more but she knew that she had duties to attend as a warrior, she needed to stay wide awake and ready for any occasion where she would be needed to defend her pack and the territory. And if she didn’t need to protect her pack from danger she would help in small tasks that would benefit them.

When she had woken up she had felt her stomach growl, telling her to eat something. Taki planned to grab a meal from the prey pile. While she walked to the prey pile’s location, she wondered if she should start a small collection of bones as a decoration for her den. “But from what animal’s bones would be the best for decoration?”, she thought with a hum.

Taki arrived at her desired location and her eyes looked around the pile, searching for what type of animal she would like to eat as breakfast. She grabbed a big mallard and trotted to eat a little far from the prey pile, just enough so she wouldn’t intrude anyone’s personal space. The female ripped some mouthfuls of feathers from the duck and started to feast on the bird’s meat. She avoided looking at any other wolves that were there, she didn’t want to start a battle so early in the morning.

Ugai (Numachi, Delta Male, Location: Numachi Camp)

Ugai's gray nose twitched as a piece of dried bracken drifted lightly down from above him and landed on his nose. It tickled his nose, and he rolled over onto his stomach and sneezed, shaking his head, before standing up and pushing his way out of the fern bush. He padded his way over to the main area of the camp and sat down with his tail curled neatly around his paws. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a black she-wolf to the side, eating a duck. Ugai tilted his head up towards the sky, casting his eyes about, searching for a speck of blue sky in the mesh of interweaving branches above him.

Kunshu / Numachi / Alpha Female / Camp Clearing / Mentions: N/A

Kunshu popped her head out of her den after disappearing into it quietly. She blinked her striking orange eyes raked the land of her pack. She watched as her members woke and began eating. A proud smile propped on her maw as she crawled out, stretching her forelegs for a while before walking out towards the prey pile.

She grabbed one of the two moorhens that she and Ugai had caught and took it back into her den before she began to pluck the precious bird's feathers, but took care of the action. Kunshu wanted the feathers to be salvageable, because she was working on making an anklet, and these feathers would be the last to go on.

Turning around, the she-wolf grabbed the anklet softly before weaving the new feathers into the design. The colors were black, white, and orange, like her eyes, completing the look of a Monarch Butterfly. Eating the bird swiftly, Kunshu went back out of her den and sat beside hit, her head held high as she closed her eyes, the speckles of sunlight dancing along her dark fur.

Sugi / Shinrin / Lead Hunter / Camp Clearing / Mentions: Alaska (I.D)

The fluffy male watched as his sole alpha walked past him, ignoring his horned owl. His tail dropped. She must've just missed him, is all. Nothing more, nothing less. Shaking out his fur, Sugi went and placed the large aviary down at the prey pile towards the center of the camp for his other packmates to enjoy.
Seeing as none of the hunters or huntresses were up yet, he watched Alaska pad off into the forest. He let out a silent whine. Who knew what she'd meet out there? He didn't feel comfortable watching her go out by herself, but if she wanted company, she would have asked. Shaking out his fur, he shook his head and laid down in the new sunlight.

Nousagi / Yama / Scout / Alpha's Den / Mentions: Sirius (D)

The small female looked up at her alpha, Sirius, her head tilted questionably. Nousagi let out a quiet huff, reminding him that she was still there
(sorry it's short. I did hers last and have to get off right now so e.e)

Hokori / Haiya / Alpha Male / Camp Clearing / Mentions: Hansha (D)

Hokori looked down at Hansha, a warm smile adorning his features. "How have the hunts been going?" He asked quietly, as the day was still new, and he didn't want to be the reason any packmates were rudely awakened. As he awaited an answer, his eyes drifted around. In a far off tree, he saw a bearded vulture nestling its head into its breast feathers. Probably about to go to sleep, not searching for anything to steal. Good.
The alpha hated it when scavengers tried to steal from his pack, just because it was in the open. No doubt Yama had the same problems, but their problems weren't his, he reminded himself. Shaking his head slightly, he turned his eyes back to the huntress, his ears pointed in her direction.

Ugai (Numachi, Delta Male, Location: Numachi Camp, Mentions: Kunshu (I.D)

Parting his jaws in a slight yawn Ugai dropped his gaze from the treetops to the floor, as he reminded himself that he was feeling a little peckish. Standing up, he started towards the prey pile, scouring it with his eyes for something not too large, and not too small. He couldn't see anything on the top that fit perfectly, so he gave a mental shrug, and turned and grabbed the other moorhen that he and the alpha had caught. Reminded of her, he glanced to the side curiously watching as she sat in the sunlight, before returning to his seat close to the ferns and toying with the hen.

Hansha (Heiya, Huntress, Location: Heiya Camp, Mentions: Hokori (D)

She blinked her multicolored eyes at Hokori before saying, "They've been doing well! I haven't really noticed anything wrong with the hunts and cooperation between us so far, but we still need to improve." Saying this she gave a small smile and tilted her head towards the ground. Her brown tail whisked out from under her, the white tail tip twitching back and forth. She looked behind her, embarrassed that she couldn't keep her own tail still.

Guadalupe. || Numachi. || Expecting Female. || Location: Numachi Camp. || Mentions: None! :3

Sleeping is quite difficult for soon-to-be mothers, and for Lupe, this is no exception. She really didn’t want to wake up, she’d much rather prefer that she could just sleep... forever. Not waking up ever again. But of course, she has mouths besides hers to feed and things to do fo the day, so she fought her tiredness and went over to the prey pile. “Too many options..” She mumbled and simply picked the first thing she saw. A couple of Grouse carcasses should do fine, she thought to herself, and so she trotted to the nearest tree to sit down and eat.

When she had finished, she sat there wondering about what her children would look like once they were born. She was quite exited to see them, as all mothers usually are. She couldn’t wait to meet them, and to see them all grow up to be big n’ strong and outlive their mother. She had a smile on her face, just imagining what’d happen next. ^^
