Feed All/Play All (& how it affects mentally/chronically ill and neurodivergent players)

Posted 2020-11-02 10:37:54

@Chu How would that affect the market? You'd still need the same amount of food and toys to take care of them, it would just be less tedious and obnoxious to do said feeding and playing.

@Chu

No problem, misunderstandings happen.

I'm not sure it would actually affect the food/toy market though, and here's why:
The feature does not GIVE you food/toys, it just let's you feed/play with all wolves in one click, opposed to having to do it for every single wolf individually, either from their page or the hoard.
You still need to gather and hoard the food/toys yourself -- so even with the feature, people would still buy as much food/toys as now!

Sorry, if I misunderstood your point now lol feel free to elaborate in case I did!

Edit (general, not at Chu specifically):
Personally, I don't agree that doing it over the hoard is significantly easier. I've been exclusively feeding and playing from the hoard on both Lioden and here, and I still think it's annoying and shouldn't be this way at all.

@GreySkyMorning
@Rapirisu

Oml I thought it fed/played with your wolves for free!! As in didn't go into your stores to use to feed/play with them. Knowing that it doesn't, so this makes my economy point null and void. Sorry again for all the misunderstandings!

But in that case there's literally little to no consequences in making this feature free then. I'm all for it!!

Thirding Sienna Snow's advice as a stopgap for those who need it. I started doing that exclusively after seeing it advised on the forums and it does improve the experience significantly, though it is not a wonderful solution.

While I don't share the same challenges as those who have posted here, I do fully agree that the feature should, if not be made free to everyone, at least be a pay-once feature, not a subscription.

Frankly, seeing that feature be made subscription only has actually made me extremely reluctant to buy GC at all. I don't have a problem spending money on a game I like, but I'm utterly opposed to subscriptions for things that shouldn't be. (Looking at you, Microsoft Office.) People should have the option to pay for it as a permanent change! If it was paying for a special marking or base or RMAs and such, I would have no problem buying repeatedly, but a QoL feature like this? That feels unfair.

No offence meant to the devs, and I hope I'm not coming off as rude or mean here. Just wanted to chime in with support for OP's point. Paying for perks and fun things is great and feels like you're buying yourself a gift, but paying a recurring fee to avoid something negative fundamentally feels bad. I worry that with this feature, Wolvden is making many players feel bad when they feel forced into making this recurring purchase.

If it has to stay paid, it needs to be like the puppy stages. You save up and then buy it once.

I feed/play from my hoard, but that isn't perfect. I'm not planning on keeping more than 20-25 individuals in my pack at any one time, but I get random pains at times, I get depressed, I suffer from chronic illnesses that keep my energy levels low.

As much as I love repetitive or organisational tasks, I often struggle to manage the wolves I have currently. There's nothing interactive or fun about feeding/playing to motivate me, and the limited energy I do have goes straight to things I'm passionate about, or taking care of my basic needs outside the game.

My partner often takes breaks because of how tedious feeding and playing is on LD, and now WD has the same feature. Despite enjoying the game, he didn't roll today because he doesn't have to energy to click through everything. I'm sure other physically disabled or mentally ill players feel the same way

I agree on so many points in this thread, having early onset rheumatoid arthritis. But anything I have to say will just be a repeat of others.

Agree with the "pay once and done" aspect. I'd buy it if you only had to buy the feature once like the puppy stages. I don't necessarily have an issue with doing it the long and boring way (even from the hoard, opening each bone and clicking through it, then opening the next and clicking through it for play time...at least on LD you could go to your stack of amusement items and click to play at the bottom without opening each separate usable item ughhhh) but I can understand the usefulness of the QOL. Make it a one and done thing and I think more people would go for it.

The site needs to make money in some ways. Feeding from the hoard is incredibly easy. What I do think would be nice is maybe toy pile that you can play with wolves from. So you could put toy items into the pile and play with each from there, since I do agree that part can get annoying(Is that kind of like play all?) Crafting higher use amusement items would be nice basically. Feeding larger carcasses takes away a lot of the annoyance with feeding. I do not think it’s ableist at all. I have some pretty serious issues with depression and I either don’t play on days I’m not feeling great and up to it or I have on occasion bought feed all/play all (lioden) and honestly I like it even less than feeding from my hoard. In my hoard it’s easier to not feed wolves I may be chasing later (NBWs etc.). If there wasn’t an option to feed from hoard I may agree with it being annoying how it’s set up. But feeding from the hoard is just ridiculously easy.

@Magpie- Clearly you've never had experience with chronic pain. Whilst I don't blame you for not understanding, could you try to see it from the point of view of someone who gets shooting pains in their joints? Or someone who has arthritis, or carpal tunnel, or chronic fatigue? This honestly isn't the best way for the site to make money, as comparable sims do not hide something that makes the game accessible/more functional behind a paywall.

Imagine if they locked turning off battle animations behind a paywall, or burying currency, or even editing your CSS/forum posts. All of these things make the site easier to navigate, and two out of three listed are important features for those with epilepsy, dyslexia, migraines, poor vision, etc.

What I'm saying is that even though you don't think something is ableist, and certainly the intention behind it wasn't ableist, that doesn't mean disabled people (other than yourself) aren't negatively affected by the choice.

I hope I don't sound rude here, but I already have to deal with friends and family who tell me to "just deal with it", so I'm more than a little worn out when I hear the "it doesn't bother me though" kinds of argument.

I had a long post typed up but I realized I should find out. Is Wolvden feed all/play all the same as Lioden where you still have to click the button each time to use different carcasses and such?

Also I do indeed deal with chronic pain and fatigue, although not in my hands. So be careful not to assume.
