Allow Ping Response In Giveaway Chat

Posted 2021-12-26 16:32:34
Yes, I fully support!!! Having to receive PMs clogs up peoples inboxes and you also don't know if someone else sent a message before you to claim a wolf. Pings are so much more convenient and you can see if someone claimed the wolf before you. I would be completely fine with the new chat if pings were allowed. This issue deserves more attention!

You've made a very good point, with the time restriction of posting once every 10 minutes. If pings are allowed in giveaway, then that restriction must be removed so that someone can post a giveaway and respond to a giveaway right after. I understand the likely purpose of this rule is to limit spamming the channel, but we should be able to operate in the same manner as the sales chat, allowing 4 posts of different adds every 10 minutes.

I agree completely with this. It's possible that the devs put in the post restriction because the giveaway chat is brand new and it wasn't clear just how active it would be. Now that it's been up for a while, we can see it's a very slow chat, and removing the post restriction + allowing pings won't be disruptive.

Support. I've DMed people only to find what they were giving away has already gone to someone else. There's no way to know at a glance if someone else has already claimed the wolf. As others have said, having to DM people clogs up inboxes, significantly slows down the process (which defeats the purpose of quick giveaways) and is honestly just annoying to do.

I Completly Agree with this. Honestly I like the Idea of a new chat, because there were so many giveaways in the main chat. But with the new chat You have to PM the Person. It just fills up my inbox that I could be using for other things. Also, Like many other people have said, there is really no way to see if someone has already claimed the wolf/item. Like I said, I like the idea of a new Chat, but I really hope this issue Gets Fixed in the future.

I'm,,, not sure if I support yet.

My only question is, why not put the wolf/resource into an essentially free trade and then post it to Giveaways? Then post a link to the trade, so you completely cut dming out of the equation? That seems to be the most popular problem in the thread, is that you have to dm someone.

Links to trades can't be posted in giveaway chat, even if the trade is fully refunded.

HUH??

Okay?? xD

Nice rule there, Wolvden, well done. I support, then! It doesnt make any sense to allow zero communication if there's no way to operate around your zero communication policy.

Plus at least half the time (for me at least) if I'm going to go through the trouble of creating a trade that's going to sit there, I might as well sell it rather than give it away. Or chase so I don't need to go through the trouble.

Thanks for asking!

I'm glad a thread has been made for this!

Full support.

The giveaway chat has done wonders for cleaning up main and I love the idea. BUT the no ping to claim has stopped me from actually using it.
I don't like selling pups often as the market is difficult and I prefer not to hang on to pups I don't want/need and I chase the duds away anyway. So using ping to claim has been great for handing out decent pups quickly.
The enclave is restricting too as you can't leave too many at once and because you can't see all the marks/determine hidden bases you risk losing a great pup to the void of no one see's it.

I don't particularly want to wait around to see if anyone messages me or to deal with potentially getting multiple messages and having to turn down a few people. At least with pings you can see immediately who was first and the other people don't have to wait around wondering if they can have the pup or not.

Instead of the "no ping to claim" rule I think we should just restrict ping games which was probably the largest issue in main chat. There were a few that worked quite well and were fun but there are also some that got way out of hand.

I fully support this!

Not being able to ping really takes away the whole community part of giveaways, also taking tons of the fun out of it. I also agree that it makes things difficult to keep track of, in the sense that other people who pm you aren't sure if the giveaway they want is already claimed. I think the inability to just ping the owner also makes it excessively difficult to attract people to said giveaway. Just from my own experience before the channel shift, whenever I offered a giveaway while asking for pms vs. pings, the pms definitely were less attractive to people. I do think having a separate channel for the giveaway is a great idea and certainly helps main chat keep it's topics in order, but it also feels more 'cold' with the inability to ping.
