Allow Ping Response In Giveaway Chat

Posted 2022-02-07 13:11:26
Fully support this! I really struggle to understand the logic of not being allowed to ping end of?

Mods really ruined the fun of giveaways with this update, and it's a great way to let newer members get a jumpstart

i know that ive been here before but i just got 2 messages for a wolf that someone had given me in giveaway chat and it killed me to turn them both down since i had just gotten the wolf and since they couldnt SEE the fact someone had claimed him  so now i support even more

I support 100 percent! Because then someone could see if the wolf is claimed and our inboxes wouldn't get flooded

I support, being able to ping other users might help get people to use it more than they do as well. It's always so... stagnant when I look at it.

I hugely agree! I never visit the giveaway chat any more since the update because it's so cumbersome. I just host my giveaways on discord now, since everyone can see if someone else has already claimed the item or pup. That's definitely not ideal though because it's to a much smaller audience.

Lioden recently got an update HERE that allows people to "claim" giveaways in the chat, and I think that's an awesome way to solve the problem of allowing other people to see publically if something's been claimed or not without cluttering up the chat.

I know, I know... this isn't Lioden, and we shouldn't compare the two, but it's the same team working on both, the development work is mostly done, so I really REALLY hope they are testing it out on Lioden and looking to bring that feature to Wolvden as well!

I have read this Lioden update you have linked and am giving feedback to this as it's been revealed to us that this feature might be implemented into Wolvden as well.

I understand that posts in Giveaways chat will have an option to be reacted with "Claim" which lets players show an interest in posted giveaway. There will be a list of players who reacted with "Claim" so the giveaway host will know who wants to get the asset without being messaged or pinged.

I strongly dislike this idea and wish it wasn't the final adjustment to Giveaways chat and solution to the problem summoned in this thread. It disregards my feedback where I mentioned that giveaways are supposed to be fun in giving and the chat is supposed to have a dynamic vibe. The players we're giving stuff to will be nothing but names appearing in the list. They will be too abstract to our imagination. We love giveaways because of reactions we may get, of those who ask and those who get. Do you remember how giveaways with ping responses looked like? Now imagine that those ping responses actually only pinged your name without any following message. Wouldn't it be discouraging when your giveaways were reacted with nothing but who signed it?

This might sound alright for those who would rather desperately get rid of the unwanted asset rather than feel philanthropy by the deed. However, I'd like to have personalities of players asking brought to this section of the chat.

While I agree it could be tweaked later with maybe the ability to add a message to your claim I think the proposed way (like it is on Lioden now) is leagues better than the current system. Messages can be thought of as flavor text which just add to the experience but at least to me aren't necessarily.

After having some time to get used to the new system, here are my thoughts:

I give away wolves primarily using a forum topic which I link in the giveaway chat. The new system has made it way easier for me to give away wolves, for a couple of reasons:
- Higher visibility: Because there's a dedicated giveaway chat + forum, people who want free wolves know where to go. And when I post something in giveaway chat, it stays near the top for hours.
- Not having to monitor the chat: Since responses aren't allowed in giveaway chat, I never need to watch the chat after posting. I can just leave for half an hour, come back, and view my notifs.
- Because I have a forum topic, I rarely have problems with multiple people asking for the same pup. If they do, I can easily say "Sorry, ___ already claimed them" and they can look up a few posts and see that it's the case.

So in terms of efficiency, the new system works really well for me.

But Dzanek also makes some good points:
I mentioned that giveaways are supposed to be fun in giving and the chat is supposed to have a dynamic vibe. [...] I'd like to have personalities of players asking brought to this section of the chat.

I miss the days of giveaways in main because it was just a fun atmosphere. Players in this game are very helpful/generous and it was nice to see community members banding together to help players in need. Of course it's possible to do the same thing through DMs, but it doesn't have the same warm community feeling of being able to do it publicly.

I think the best solution would be to leave the giveaway chat as-is, but also allow for ping-to-claim and other giveaways in main chat. That's the best of both worlds, because in main you can have interaction and dynamic vibes, and in giveaway chat it's convenient to just impersonally offload assets.

I agree with Lionel's "allow both" option. Leave giveaway chat alone and if you allow casual giveaways in main chat once more, theoretically it should be less crowded than before because there are now other options to do giveaways.

I've made many friends through giveaways in chat, and none with the new system which was a huge part of why I logged in every day. Coming back to see this taken away was and remains very disheartening.
