[Custom Decor] Custom Decor System Needs Reform

Posted 2023-12-13 17:50:14
Yea, it's absolutely appalling that we pay this game 10 gc just to make a CD that is going to be shit on and rejected and dragged through the dirt for literal months and then if it DOES get accepted?  We get 3 copies and if we want more we once again have to pay wolvden for copies of our OWN art?!  All the while, they make more money off of each copy sold in game than the artist does more often than not.  I have spent more GC on CDs in this game than anything else, and if you look at people's dens you can see just how much money goes into this game to support unofficial artists.  And yet this is how we're treated??

CD artists are doing a service for this game and yet most of us are treated like the scum on the bottom of xylax's shoe lmao.
"This will be approved" my ass.  Not without months of groveling and free fucking labor on my part.

I've had the same experience with one of my CD's. Ended up having to cancel it after 1 rejection and 5 months of waiting for a measly response.
Xylax imo should retire. Xylax has gorgeous art but the way they talk down to other artists is unacceptable.

Like, why would anyone want to be treated like shit and then exploited for their art ? if any other site/person/entity did this, they'd be shut down and rightfully so.

it gets irritating because I see so much potential with Wolvden. Between the  no hearing on Blue jay feather issue despite promising a response, overzealous mods, bad market, unplayability due to lag, promised but not received decors from February, countless bugs, and the whole CD situation I'm calling it quits after December.

You had Potential Wolvden. You seriously did.

I agree that Xylax should step down from their position as head artist. Doing art criticism requires a certain level of sensitivity, empathy and unbiased fairness... I'm not sure Xylax is the best person for this position. Most of the team's work is fantastic IMO, Xylax included. But I think that Xylax should be allowed to focus on creating artwork for the site while Wolvden looks at picking a new head artist. I think the team should also consider hiring a Head Reviewer specifically whose entire job is to review decors - so that way people aren't waiting months for responses, and the responses are consistient and unbiased.

Slightly off topic but related, now they're asking players to get involved in helping design markings for them to use in the game too, by drawing up the marking on a template even. Why not just hire more artists

Yep, why not just hire more artists ? I believe moderators don't get paid either (they definitely should get paid for their time).
I really wonder where the playerbase gc funds are going because I can't see where all that money goes in Wolvden.

They finally made a Cian and Jamen decor update. Bet they wish that the fan base would just forget about those 2 decors so they can go back to working on Lioden

This is tangential but yes, not paying your mods causes major issues. I'm sure some of them are in it for the right reasons, but most people who volunteer a crap ton of their time to moderate a pet sim website are not. Hence all the trigger-happy power trips.

I haven't been on the artist side of the custom decor Issue but I was really keen on commissioning a custom decor piece... but almost nobody wants to do it even for quite a lot of gold, presumably because of the issues in this post. It's not just me either, a quick look at the custom decor board shows a lot of people wanting custom decor but not finding artists to do it. Which is a shame and misses out on a whole load of amazing talent!

Why do Custom Decors when art commissions are so much easier and simpler ? No waiting on absentee people to approve your art piece and no hassle. Art commissions for the win today.
