Remove failing OR remove the HP loss from failing to take an effigy

theres a penalty for participating in anything in this game, its kinda about a push and pull and I think that's intentional. it feels almost like asking to take away the occasional hp penalty while hunting. |

There's also the fact that this could be the devs way of releasing a new mutation or important breeding items. It's more likely to be decor, but if it wasn't I just know I'd be kicking myself for not participating. If I knew what the reward was and it was purely cosmetic, I would skip the encounters, but still be annoyed by them taking up energy that might have led to a battle or NBW encounter. The difference between this encounter and the others is that if I don't want to risk a negative outcome, theres usually another option I can still pick, or the negative comes with a benefit. I.e. losing HP in lunar encounters but you still get a tear, "smell of big risk" option, or you can play with the owl instead of taunting it in the forest biomes. So for now I'm going to participate, and when we know what the reward is I'll decide whether its worth it for next year. I'd like for my participation to be 100% voluntary regardless, and for the event to not pop up and waste my energy. Honestly, the only reason I made this thread (and this is in no way meant to garner sympathy, so don't let it affect your vote) is because I spent 10 hours in hospital yesterday having the worst day of my year so far, and wanted to play this event to cheer myself up. Getting an actively negative outcome, even a "small" one of -2hp, for simply wanting to participate and enjoy the mini-event really got to me. |

Furthermore, no encounters (whether regular or event) should be punishing. It discourages taking any action/playing the game at all. |

Uhh..Why not? A lot of games have risk=reward or outright punishing mechanics to make gameplay more intriguing and therefore give more unique experiences |

It should either be nothing or a reward, unless only one of the options is potentially punishing (while the other one(s) are safe). Otherwise it's just frustrating and discourages the player to take any action and, subsequently, play the game. Furthermore, the main demographic of any browser game are casual players who expect it to be relaxing and might not have time to regain any losses during the same day (or at all if they keep accumulating). |

There is no other way to get effigies, so if you would like to participate in the whole mini-event, there is literally no "safe" way to do so. You risk being punished for participating AT ALL. We don't know if the "reward" is worth it because we don't know what the currency buys, so saying it's a system of risk/reward doesn't fly with me, sorry. I'm sure if every single CS or LT encounter caused HP loss 10% of the time that would be unacceptable to most players. Anyway, I was going to reply because I've just had the encounter not give anything but also not take away HP, and I was wondering if that why everyone was so opposed to this suggestion? Every time I failed up to then (7 out of 38 encounters) it's taken -2HP from my lead, so if that's the case then I am just supremely unlucky. |

Regarding explore encounters being punishing in general, well... the lead bars only matter for exploring so either explore and deal with bar affecting penalties or don't explore at all which puts the bars in no use. |

If you don't want to risk losing HP, you can just treat it the way you (may or may not) treat the grison, the frog, the centipede, or anything similar and hit the Explore paw print again when you see it. The idea that -2HP is some unacceptable bar to entry for a completely optional event is silly. |
