[Chased] Allow players to encounter their own Chased wolves

Posted 2022-10-14 11:52:19
@Baroness - Agreed! No one makes a player participate in Raise and Chase. I guess I don't understand how the players who participate being able to come across their own chased wolf is harmful to you. Right now you have the ability to encounter a wolf Chased by someone else whether it be a potato wolf or a flipping fantastic wolf. You would still be able to encounter NBW wolves chased by other players. You would still have the ability to chase any wolf you choose. If this requested change was implemented, you just might be the person who saw your own wolf again and chased it for a final time.

@Dzanek perhaps I made a poor choice of words. The gist of what I was trying to say is that the Chase button is used for various different things, not just to quickly get rid of a wolf you've befriended that you no longer want, or maybe even never had any desire for in the first place.

Doesn't the mechanic already affect every wolf? The players who are not interested in raising and chasing are still going to be able to come across the same wolves they have the ability to encounter today from other players. As far as folks not wanting "to see their own trash" I get that, but I fail to see why it should only be someone else who runs the risk of seeing it. Why shouldn't the chaser run the same risk?

I agreed with your summary of why I'd want to find one of my own chased wolves until I got to the and part. I know there are players who breed for low gen only, but I'm not one of them. I breed for base and marks that have caught my interest. I've got a wide variety in my den from G1 to G11 with a few inbred thrown into the mix because I'm specifically trying to breed eye/mark combos. So my desire to find a wolf that I've Chased is more about finding a wolf that has all of those attributes that I currently find the most attractive.

As far as the feature being dedicated to 'this small group' I'd argue that there are other updates that have been made of the same type. I don't breed for stats. As far as I'm aware the recent changes to how stats are divvied up were also for a select group of players, but I didn't resent the time and effort that went into changing that mechanic of the game even though I personally didn't care about it.

And finally, I fail to see who would be put at a disadvantage and how. I'm not asking for an increase in the number of encounters I may experience with a Chased wolf. I'm asking that my own Chased wolf be included in the pool that my encounters are pulled from. Can you expound a little on that one and help me understand what you mean?

Alright, you got good points that updates are directed to some small group of players anyway and that the proposed mechanic would be balanced for every player who'd get equal chance of getting certain chased wolf regardless of wolf chased by this player. What I meant about disadvantages was comparing the current system to your suggested system from a perspective of a player who doesn't chase desired wolves.

I'd like to throw a new point: knowing that a player can slightly benefit from own chased wolves, it may encourage more players into raise and chasing. This might sound positive to you because "the more the merrier" but I'm afraid that the game is already oversaturated with low gen wolves. Non-inbreeding playstyle is not challenging at all (when most players avoid inbreeding for challenge) because when I look for stud with certain features, the majority of them are low generation bred from private lines.

Also, isn't raise and chasing more like a charity, where players may feel themselves and each other as generous, chasing wolves so other players can find them without any personal gain? The proposed change would make this generosity trait weaker.

R&C was pretty well established by the time I started doing it, and I certainly can't speak for the community as a whole, but for me (personally) that's *part* of why I do it. I definitely enjoy chasing wolves knowing that other players may have an opportunity to run into one of my wolves during a befriending encounter. I do it for a number of reasons including:
*I do love it when someone catches one of my wolves and it makes their day.
*Who wouldn't enjoy finding an R&C wolf instead of a game generated NBW during an encounter??
*I really like the traits I chase and wish for there to be more of them available as studs.

I also do it with the full acknowledgement that even though I think the wolves I chase are fantastic, not every player has the same taste and someone else may leave or attack my chased wolf because it isn't something they personally find attractive. Or has a mark they have a vendetta against.

Could be that you're right and that opening it up so that I can find my own chased would make my generosity of R&Cing wolves a little less altruistic, but I just don't see how that small % of chance negates the generosity as a whole. And should someone else find a particular wolf I chased that I really wanted to get back (again, we are talking such a small % chance that I find my own chased) I'm still going to come to the table asking to negotiate to trade currency or items to get that wolf back, so I'm really struggling to see how me being able to find my own chased hurts anyone else out there.

Maybe this tiny amount won't practically change how generous raise and chasing is but how players feel about it regarding the generosity might be changed a lot.

I genuinely support this idea.

I participate in R&C for a variety of reasons, Carrie actually being a huge influence on how I operate my personal R&C wolves. I R&C in hope's of introducing bases, eyes, markings, etc. that I find admirable. I also want to "flood" the NBW pool with some decent wolves because I know it isn't every day someone comes across a nice NBW. Aside of the general value of NBWs, a lot of people chase wolves they love in hope's of maybe getting them back. I don't think a lot of people who participate in R&C are in it for the money. Granted, I am still quite new and hence naïve, but I see more people R&Cing to see other people's days get made or to hopefully get a cherished wolf back after getting a second chance at life.

You could argue that if "the wolf meant so much they could've immortalized it" or "if the wolf meant so much they could've let it die and put it into your dynasty", which is inherently true. But I, like many other players, like giving their wolves a second chance instead of letting them die. Whether that be finding a home in a new pack, making it's way back to the original pack, or being lost to the RNG Gods. Also, not everyone can afford to immortalize every wolf they love, nor are there unlimited immortal slots.

I don't think it'd be advantageous or disadvantageous to add this. I simply think it makes sense and to me it's weird that we can't already encounter our own chased wolves? If I have to come across a simple re-chase, so should the original chaser. In the same regard, I should also be able to find the same simple re-chase. The same goes for "nice" chased wolves as well, even though "nice" is a relative term, seeing as everyone's definition to nice in this game is different.

Anyways, I'm done rambling now.

Support. To those saying they don't want to encounter potatoes they chased, you will most definitely come across potatoes other people chased anyway. So I don't see that it would make a big difference in that regard.

I support 100%

I chase a LOT of wolves mostly with Merle, Panda and Wings marks in the hope of buying them back..
Smoke eyes too..
I chase the wolves that I like the best..
Only keeping a few girls to breed back when I change studs...
Sure, I am happy when someone else is happy with catching my chased wolves but I sure would love the chance to catch my own wolves as well..
I enclave the rest of the pups in the hope that some of those will be chased as adults..
Then I can likely catch them but they are not the same quality as the wolves that I chase myself..
ALL of my Studs for the last few studs have been chased wolves that I had chased and I was lucky enough to be able to buy them back!
I often can't AFFORD to buy my own stud quality wolves back!

I support this idea! I honestly would love to be able to have the chance to find my own chased wolves in the pool, even if it is a small % of a chance

Support. I reunited someone with a wolf they'd chased and they were so glad to see it again.
