Karlie smiled at him, but then went back to the sofa. He could tell James didn't like being around people, so he thought it best to simply not bother him. He picked up the rest of his food and put it in the fridge, making a mental note that he needed to go to the grocery store.
He walked over to the second bedroom and knocked lightly, not wanting to just invade James' personal space.
"Hey, I'm going to the store. What do you want me to get, and do you have any allergies?" He asked, leaning his back against the door.
James remained silent before he spoke after a moment. "I don't eat much. I don't need anything." Was the soft and audit reply from behind the door. He laid back down on his bed with a sigh. He had his switch blade in hand and he kept spinning it in his hand. He didn't care or want anything from the store. Its not like he would even eat it if it was bought. He only ever really ate lunch and even then it wasn't a big meal at all
He paused, getting a bad feeling about all of this. "Do you like mochi.?" He asked quietly, trying to find something to make this boy talk.
Karlie stepped back from the door, writing a note as he waited for the other to answer.
' Be back in an hour - Karlie '
He didn't get a response, so he just stuck the note to the door and left, grabbing his keys on the way out.
Karlie came home about 50 minutes later with a few bags. He put everything away except for some rice flour, sugar, and ice cream. He boiled some water, flour, and sugar together before mixing it into a dough. He cut the dough and rolled it out, popping some ice cream in the middle of each piece. He folded them up and then went back to James' door. He knocked again, not saying anything. The lights were all off this time, and he'd made sure to shut the blinds to keep the rooms as dark as he could manage.
He said nothing for a few moments. Movement, however, could be hears from the other side of the door. He cracked the door a little bit looking up at Karlie. He said nothing and he just looked at him. The dark, purple bags could be seen from the little bit of light that was in the apartment. He had a blank look on his face as he waited for him to say something.
He knew for sure that he wasn't going to be the one to start the conversation. He wanted nothing more than to just curl into a ball on his bed, but he couldn't do that at the moment.
Karlie was surprised that James had actually opened the door, but he was trying to remain as calm as possible. He didn't want to make the other feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed, so he just spoke quietly. "I made some mochi. It's just plain vanilla, but you can think of it as a housewarming gift. I can just leave it on the counter if you want?" He was holding a small plate in his hand with a few balls of dough. He made them a bit smaller than usual since James told him he didn't eat much. "You don't have to eat it if you don't want to." He added, not wanting the other to feel pressured.
James hesitated as he looked at the plate. He shifted his weight as he sighed. He wasn't really sure what to do in this moment and to be honest he was a little nervous about this guy. He didn't want to seem like he was opening up to this guy, because he wasn't going to. "You can just leave them on the table.....I'm not hungry..." He muttered quietly moving to close the door when his stomach growled loudly. He stopped and frowned down at his stop. Did I just get betrayed by my own stomach....?
He smiled softly for a moment before saying, "Ouch, betrayed by your own stomach." He laughed slightly, but quickly quieted himself down. "I'm not sure if you like korean food, but I made some rice balls and tteokbokki if you want it." He paused to think over his next words. "I'll leave you alone, but if you want to come eat, feel free." He smiled and turned around, walking back to the living room.
He set the mochi down on the table and flopped on the sofa, worried he'd somehow gotten James to hate him in under an hour. He picked up a piece of mochi and sat criss-crossed on the couch, scrolling through youtube while he ate.
James had closed his door quietly behind him. He sighed, and walked over to the bed, ignoring n the hunger in his stomach. He didn't care at all if he was hungry or not. His stomach was just gonna have to deal with it cause he didn't plan on eating, any time soon. After a little while, his stomach wouldn't stomach growling and it got to the point it was painful. He moved and slowly opened up the door. His hair was a little messy and he slowly walked out of the room. He still wore his baggy clothes so it covered up how small he was
Karlie heard the door click, but didn't dare say anything. He just continued scrolling through youtube, waiting silently to see if James would come out. Hunger can be a pretty good motivator for most people, so he wasn't exactly surprised that the other had left his room.
Karlie was still munching on his mochi, so he wiped his face and tried to distract himself with more food. He found a video on pop culture, and plugged his headphones in. He started listening to it, but quickly got bored and picked up his book again.
James kinda looked at the food for a moment, but after a moment he only picked up one thing. He didn't get himself anything to drink either. He ate one piece of mochi before he headed back to the room. He swallowed as he walked silently, barely making any noise at all. It was kinda funny how quiet James was being, almost like he was scared to make a noise at all. He quickly opened the door to his room with a sigh, feeling absolutely relieved at the fact he was back in this room.
