A Leader's Questions...

Asmodeus gave a slight wag of her tail in return. Nodding her head a little before speaking. "Yes we do. Since most of the year is shrouded in complete darkness, the summer months are just about the only ones that we get any true constant sunlight. Every summer we hold a grand religious festival that lasts nearly the entire summer and it is just fantastic! We hold competitions, feasts, and.. less presentable things.." she trailed off, thinking of what else to add as to not frighten anyone around her. "That's basically it, but it is extremely important to the north."

"Now, I have a question for you." She turned to face a wolf near her, staring at them with her milky blue eyes. "Does your pack have any unique bits of culture that only they or very few other packs also have?"

Lightning Crown stepped forward to answer.
"Our pack is different in many ways. First off, the pack is nomadic, with no defined borders. We travel wherever we are welcome, usually by the water's edge. Second, because we lack a place to keep our lore, we have a well-defined storytelling tradition, and a wolf in charge of keeping these stories. Third, each wolf has a silent name, or a name that only they, the singer, and the spirits know. It is used in rituals and funerals."
She smiled, looking around at the other wolves. Addressing one of the other leaders, she said:
"How structured is your pack? Do you have a strict hierarchy or is it more of a loose collection of roles?"

A strange wolf clambered down from the canopy, grumbling under his breath about spruce trees being too steep as he shook pine needles from his pelt. He was very small, only a little larger than a coyote, and covered in numerous scars. "Burning Thorn doesn't have what you'd call a 'hierarchy'" Scree briefly laughed to himself before continuing "Well, I guess we'd have one, as I'm here, but no, what I mean is that nobody in our pack has full control, and nobody is truly above anyone else." He pawed at the ground as he spoke "I'm only leader as a scout would lead a hunting party, I merely manage the others in my pack, make sure the scouts go out, and the hunters don't go for each other's throats." He smiled faintly at his joke "Now, the hunters get along perfectly fine, they just have... troubles with each other occasionally..." Scree trailed off as he spotted another leader edging their way to the circle

"You, are the wolves of your pack... unusual in any way?" he said, inspecting his claws absentmindedly, which were more than twice as long as a normal wolf's, perfectly designed for digging into the bark of trees while climbing.

Elrinlia tilted her head slightly at the question, unsure why she felt uneasy regarding the inquiry. Her pack was, as far as she was concerned, normal. Well, aside from a couple of her warriors who appeared peculiar when compared to most wolves they had met over the years. "I fear my answer will disappoint you," her voice was gentle as the young she-wolf spoke from beside her mate, offering a smile. "We do, of course, have wolves with interesting pelts, but nothing that would seem unusual," she explained, her eyes glimmering with mirth as she looked at the small wolf. "But, perhaps our hierarchy could be seen as odd by some; we are a matriarchal pack and only female descendants from our founder have the right to lead. In addition, only males can become herbalists and scouts, but mentors and hunters can be of either gender," the female shrugged at this; to her, it all seemed normal.

"Then again, we do have an odd pack member... she is a talented hunter and an adventurous soul, yet her colours do make the elders and the pups feel uneasy at times," Elrinlia's eyes narrowed slightly; the female had never felt good when talking poorly about the other members of her pack, yet there was no harm in opening up a little bit about the worries she carried as their Alpha. "We're not sure why her coat is how it is or why she carries the eyes of the Devil, but we accept her all the same; perhaps, it comes from her father's side," she laughed, waving a paw above the ground in a poor attempt to make the other wolves ignore her slight discomfort. She would stand by her pack, no matter what.

Turning to the other wolves gathered in the clearing, Elrinlia thought about the question she wanted to ask. "Has your pack been affected by the Faelcu this month? Or were you safe from the wisps?"

Having found himself lost in thought on his travels, Bram perked up slightly seeing the familiar clearing. Perhaps it was a subconscious yearning for something familiar that brought him back here - or just a slight fondness for the atmosphere. He settled himself into the crowd, not sure if he was planning to speak, until the question at hand caught him off guard. The recent strangeness had been weighing on him, afterall.
"Well," his ears flicked nervously, displaying a slight discomfort. "Certain strange occurrences are not unusual around Lake Fellworm, though lately it does seem different. The sounds are... haunting." He paused, thinking of his sister. He had grown accustomed to seeing her small ghost by the river, but lately hearing the otherworldly cries of pups had brought up old feelings. Taking a second to bring his focus back, he shook his pelt as if brushing off rain and continued - "It could be a coincidence as well but, but we did lose a few pups in our recent litters. It could have been the cold, but hearing those tales..." Bram trailed off, losing himself in thought for a moment. His honesty in the moment surprised him, and he stiffened his pose, feeling a bit defensive in retrospect.

Shaking away the thought, he broke his gaze from the wolf who had asked, sweeping the crowd. "Speaking of pups, when it comes to those that protect them, how does your pack decide on that role? Do more step up as the need arises or do you let fate run its course?"

Laying flat on her belly Bibelot watched the gathering of leads allowing the shadows and underbrush to cover her until she was sure she wanted to join them. Her recently departed mother had spoken of this area to her and had advised she visit when she took over the pack to gather wisdom and to help her become a lead she'd be proud of. Her ears flattened thinking of her mother an ache gripping her heart and with a shove to her feet she strolled into the sunlight to reveal herself. "Pups," she bellowed out as she crossed the clearing to the others, "Are our future and should be treated as such." She lowered her voice to a reasonable tone once she'd made it to the group and gave all a friendly but cautious smile, "Pupsitters in our pack have always held the highest honor. We protect those who aren't able to protect themselves."

She took in each face of the gathered group until her eyes landed on a wolf that looked well into their years, Yes they'll have wisdom to help me get started. she thought to herself. Lowering her eyes respectfully she voiced her question to them, "Do you allow the wolves of your pack to form bonds and breed for love, or do you choose for them who to breed with as to strengthen future generations or even to allow certain markings to pass on to future generations?" Looking to the wizened wolf before her holding her breath to await a response to one of many questions that burned inside her. How should she lead her pack?

The regal blood-stained male sat silently, crazed eyes slit with displeasure. He didn't want to be here. Anywhere was better than this place. He shook his pelt, gold decorations jingling together. He huffed, hackles raised as he listened intently. The Ringleader before him,  Nimue, his mother, demanded that he gather information from the more wise and experienced wolves. He turned his head slowly, thinking someone asked him something. " Excuse me? " he grumbled. " HAH! ' He cackled, almost not believing what the wolf had asked " Love is weakness, I do not allow my subjects to show weakness. If there is a breeding pair, we breed for strength and beauty, and nothing more. " He spat, almost disgusted. He rolled his eyes and turned to a wolf nearby. As he looked to another wolf, random questions seemed to spark in his jaws, why? " OI, Mutt! I have a question! " He yelled " What's your packs religion? or are you uncivilized rag-tag strays? " He sneered.

Lightning Crown's fur bristled at the rudeness of the leader before her, and she tried to calm herself before standing to speak. "The River Light Pack has a religion of nature and magic. The four courts guide our way through life, from the sun and moon to the river down to the deepest cave. As a matter of fact, our new Singer just completed her journey to the peaks half a moon ago."
She shot a quick look at the previous leader before turning to adress the one next to her.
"What prey do you choose to hunt most often?" she asked, looking at them with curiosity.

"We" -Fang replied- "Hunt the biggest prey available, sometimes it's a elk, sometimes it's a muskrat." -He made a toughtful face-
"If we could, we would hunt only elk, horse, deer and bison, but alas, we can't choose where the prey goes, so we make do with whatever we can." Satisfied at his answer, he scanned the wolves of the crowd and he pointed with his snout at one of them and asked them: "Why do mutataed wolves smell different? Or is it only our piebald wolf that does" Do the smell differ between different mutations?" With an apologetic look at WhiteSilk, his pie wolf, he settled down into the moss.

Enlight took a moment and pondered the question, carefully choosing her words before speaking. "All wolves smell different," The leader muttered with narrowed eyes, "Yes, there is usually a similar scent in each pack, but there is a unique smell for each wolf, too. So, I am doubtful it is just 'mutations' with differing scents."

Not knowing how else to answer the question, they decided to move on to continue the slow conversation, glancing over their shoulder to the next wolf. "How are relations within your pack? Are your members happy or constantly questioning your ability to lead them?"
