Wolvden Economy/Market Discussion

@ Alex (Coyote)

you'll be able to catch large prey! and haha, YES! one of my best scouts i've ever had has super long lines but he's an incredible scout. i'm going to miss him when he dies!

i had no luck selling a G2 fox. i'm not sure what to do with it if this trade i'm offering it on gets rejected - i don't want to ask a lot for it, but i also don't want to see it get potentially resold if i sell it for cheap!

Over the past few weeks I'm shocked to see that selene, luna and other 'sought after' markings just don't seem to sell? Even special based pups with good stats and good markings just...DON'T sell at all. It's really disheartening because I grinded a lot in the previous Lunar events so I could get the apps for my breeding wolf, and now it feels like they're going to waste. Yes, I breed solely for profit. I have a few T2's and T3's etc with good markings, stats etc, that just haven't sold. They're not up for trade but I've left them open for offers :I No one's offered anything on them, and at least 4 of them have died so :/ It's kind of discouraging and I'm slowly losing interest in the game

@pikachu Good to know, I moved to the Desert for lore/Raccoon Wares but might just crawl back to the Mountains. Then again, I'm not hurting on food and critter hunts have gone up to 50%, maybe I can survive. xD

I'm selling a G2 Teardrop with no bites yet, and finally had to let a nice semi-private-line G3 Mojave go for a few red fox trophy drops, felt shameful. I don't know if I should just let 'em go or keep them and hope for someone seeking out specific wolves. That's not even mentioning any longer lined T3's I've bred.

Can people even resell with the current market? Seems like they'd end up the same as us unless they're patient enough to wait and see.

@Ginger_Bee I noticed that! Losna was all the rage about a week ago, now I see pups for pennies on the TC.

I think a lot of that has to do with the upcoming big event this month; I think people are holding out since it's been said every app/base should be available. I know I'm waiting on it to buy any marking apps. After that I'm assuming they'll be retired again and probably go up in value after a few months. Hopefully.

I've got some leftover apps I'm waiting to sell but oh my god, I feel awful for wasting my wolves' heats just because their pups don't sell, I can't afford to expand my territory for more wolves because I can't sell wolves it feels like a waste of time right now

@Ginger_Bee Yeah, I let most of my wolves' heats pass. I rehome most of my pups for free, and sell the highest-value ones, but I don't want to deal with huge numbers of pups at once. I don't really view it as a waste; some of my wolves don't breed ever, some will only have 1-2 litters in their lifetime, I find it more important to keep a manageable den.

@Alex Harder biomes give much more hunting exp, so your wolves will gain levels/stats faster and eventually their hunting success will go up. But it's a slow process and you've got a big pack. So I'd say play by ear, especially once spring ends, if it seems like food is going to be difficult then you might want to move back.

Re: flippers I don't really mind, because (1) good luck selling pups in this economy and (2) if you're more patient than me and want to bump trades for days and finally get a bite, more power to you I guess.

Idk if this real or just my own perception bias, but from my experience (mostly with selling hunters), it almost seems like there's a bit of a cycle with the market atm? I've noticed that a lot of people tend to be buying their next gens at around the same time - so if you catch that wave, wolves sell really well, and if you don't you're basically SOL until the next one. Again, could be just me projecting lol, but considering how many people all joined around the same time it wouldn't surprise me if there were some weird cohort dynamics happening.

Also re: g2s, I totally agree with you @Lionel - I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with G2 values now that we have pup & adol training. The hunter gene pools are definitely starting to get a little bottlenecked, and high stat g2s seem like the best option for adding fresh lines without sacrificing high stats too much.

I've noticed quite a few people raising G1's specifically for high-stat G2 projects lately, so I wonder they might start to pick up in value in another 7-14ish game years when those project wolves mature?

I don't normally respond to threads focused on the more divided topics (they seem to get heated so easily) but this one feels pretty relaxed so I'll toss in my thoughts. c:

Similar to Beads, I am a bit bothered by inbreeding and long-lineage within my own pack. I only keep wolves that are first - fourth generation with a heavy preference for first and second gen. I'm not *exactly* sure what irks me about owning wolves with a longer lineage, I think the family page overall just looks somewhat overwhelming to me with so many links / names. I understand that I could just ignore that aspect of their bio but even if I don't look at the family page, it still exists so my mind dwells on it regardless. I don't feel like my preference was impacted or pushed a particular way by the community, which I'm bringing up just because I know some people do feel pressured into playing a certain way.

While I do think that first and second gen will always be valued a little higher, I can also see why such a steep price difference has hurt the market for everyone regardless of their preference. Of course there is supply and demand but it does feel a little unbalanced or ... I don't know, off, at this point in time. I'm curious to see what will happen when some pretty combo bases are released (assuming they will be? my brain is dead) and if that will shift the market focus a little. Apart from that, I can't really think of a solution to the market problem since so many people play wolvden a certain way for a particular reason.

Also! I have noticed that I play wolvden a lot less involved than I did the sister-site. Here, I don't really use outside studs, I don't sell the pups I breed, I don't interact in the sales topics, etc. In fact, I think the only time I've used the trade center to purchase anything was to buy healing salves and like, a chased merle or two. Selling wise, I've maybe sold one or two pups total since game release and one (maybe two?) stacks of food. Right now, I feel like I can get most of what I want out of the game with my own effort. The only exception to this was a tier iii, which I still could have gotten eventually through crafting the fox app myself, but was instead lucky enough to find one while exploring a week or so back. If others are playing a similar, more independent play-style, maybe there's just not enough consumers currently using the trade-center in general?

longer than intended but hopefully it all makes sense  c:

@Aeonium Self-sufficiency is a good point. I use the trading center for a lot of things, but when it comes to pups, I mostly just breed my own. This isn't really a conscious playstyle choice - I just like so many of my own pups that I don't generally have room for outsiders. Also, when one of my wolves is getting old, my mind naturally goes to "Okay, time to breed their successor."

On the rare occasion that I buy pups, it's generally either (1) something I want that I can't easily breed for (e.g., buying my first albino) or (2) trying to get a fresh bloodline into my pack (a LOT of my pack is related to my three og favs).

Looking at my pack chart, my three most recent pup purchases were a mojave pup in March (my first T3); a rare lineage hunter pup in May; and a super cute adopted pup in June. So yeah, I can't blame anyone for not buying pups when I'm not doing it myself.

oh wow! you're better than me - sometimes i go into the enclave and i come back with like… 8 pups that i absolutely do not need. i typically end up raising and chasing them LOL but regardless.

yeah. it's so hard to sell things in the market too. right now i have a second gen fox and multiple third gen serpentines that i'm trying to sell and i'm having no success. it's frustrating because i want a fair price for them - especially the serpentines, because they have such rare lines + my serpentine stud is entirely private lined.

but i'm not optimistic i'm going to be able to sell them for a price that i think is decent, and honestly, i don't think itd even be that much? i just definitely don't want to sell them for 5 GC. i'm also paranoid that because of their short and good lines, i'd see them bought out and then resold quickly.

i know that's silly. but still!
