Post-apocalyptic Strays - Caffeinated & WolfClaw [RP]

" just.... just follow me.." Vi said tilting her head before turning around and trotted off to the place she heard something the night before " I felt something or heard something over here when when I turned right.. i cant tell what it is and dont want to know.. but I do want to investigate it a little closer. " she then eyed CJ " if you know what is there, I would like to know. " she stopped before the right turn and sat down  she perked her eyes up so she could listen to anything  past the right turn. She had great hearing and was proud of it. 

CJ wasted no time and followed Violet in suit. They arrived to the suspicious place and he listened to her speak as he lowered his head to sniff the ground. Something wasn't right, but neither could he put his paw on it. His eyes flitted up towards her.

"I don't know what this could be," he said honestly, "I need to make sure it's nothing dangerous though." He looked forward and began slowly around the corner, fur on his back standing on end and a defensive growl bubbling in his throat.

" please .. be.." Vi began to say be he had already gone. She hoped that he would be ok going by himself. she didnt want to leave him un guarded, so she followed him slowly behind him in case an attack happened. "  Do you recognize anything? The smell really stinks in my opinion, CJ.. I think we better go back" she said  glancing right then left then right again. Her tail straight and fur up. 

CJ continued to sniff around. The scent of human was already far gone. He could smell concrete, dirt, rats. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Other than.. CJ perked up and froze. He felt his throat tighten, his eyes water, his gag reflex begin to trigger, and he felt nauseous. Was Vi feeling these same things?

"We have to get out," he said sternly, hastily turning around and nudging Violet with impatience, "now." He didn't know what the scent was specifically, but it had similar components to what he had smelled before. Prolonged exposure would potentially kill them, and he had little knowledge of what was actually down this alley.

Vi whined as she noticed CJ acting weird " Alright alright.. dont get your tail in knot, CJ. Im going" She said racing back to the train car a few minutes later " What was that smell, CJ.. did.. did you recognize it or something? I smelled like.. like poison or something. " She  nuzzled CJ to make him relax " I wont go back there  again for a while.. my nose hurts a little bit, but not as much as yours. Im used to these smells.. sorta."

CJ held back any retort to Violet's response. When they got back to the train car, he panted and coughed a couple times, pawing at his face and shaking his head.

"I was the lead canine of the NYPD K-9 unit," he said, his voice firm with confidence, "Jason trained me in bomb detection. That smell wasn't a bomb, but it was some airborne toxin." CJ allowed the nuzzle and he released a shakey breath. "It's not normal that's for sure." He paused for a moment, looking towards the corner they just came from. It was uncomfortably close to the train car, and if it were to get any worse everyone would be in danger. 

"How are you used to those smells?" CJ asked, despite the dislike Violet expressed the day before about her past.

" I.. I was used for smelling  toxic fumes in old buildings and such. I got used to it after many many many training sessions. I dont recognize that one we  smelled back there.. but its worse than what either of us have smelled. So for the time being.. im your nose. An no disagreeing with me. "  she sat down beside him and looked out of the car back at where they just came from "  That could have been Poison gas... but Im not sure totally.. i would have to search more to get a better sense of what it is"

He nodded with melancholy at her answer. That job was hard and he knew it. He knew working dogs in that field that didn't live long due to the effects of the toxins. Soon his nodding was in agreement with Violet, until the latter end of her statement.

"I beg your pardon, my sense of smell is fine," he grunted and lifted a brow towards her, "neither of us are going back there." He puffed out his chest and cleared his throat.

"We might have to find new shelter," he thought aloud.

Vi nodded " but where CJ... the smell is likely too spread  everywhere  in this who area" she argued " but i guess you are right... we might as well find somewhere better" 

"It will," he agreed with a nod, looking at Vi, "and you're right, I don't think it's going to go away, but if-- when it gets worse we shouldn't be too close to the source... Whatever the source is." CJ heaved a sigh and rolled his shoulders in a shrug. "I think we'll be okay for a few more days, in the meantime maybe you and I could scout out some buildings." He ended with a little smile.
