Development Update #6.1

Posted 2021-02-12 20:44:36

@ 🦗Locust🦗 Based on the spreadsheet, it looks like even pretty low stat wolves with high proficiency/synergy would have a shot normally. The problem is that it's winter and if the 25% is accurate... that kills the little chance they did have. In the swamp, wolves with 50 stats in the relevant skills, full proficiency/synergy would normally have a 21% chance.

Also, if you only had 1% chance before winter, then you may want to move. Since the change was rolled out right before winter started, it's not possible to say 1% in every season on the new system. Winter is haaaard. That said, my hunters are bringing in more in the Conifer Forest this winter than they were last year in the Grasslands.

I did the math from my user log and last winter I had a 41% success rate for hunting. This winter I’ve had a 75% success rate. One of my teams has less synergy this time since I had brought in new hunters, so saying it’s terrible for new people is probably not accurate.

You have inspired me to go through my user log as well and see how my team did last winter, and my results are below!

Hunting success in the rainforest during winter, pre-update:

Date Success Fail Total % Success
18 January 9 21 30 30%
19 January 12 18 30 40%
20 January 12 18 30 40%
21 January 18 12 30 60%
22 January 14 16 30 47%
23 January 13 17 30 43%

Hunting success in the rainforest during winter, post-update:

Date Success Fail Total % Success
11 February 6243020%
12 February
8223027%
13 February
3273010%
14 February
7233023%
15 February
8223027%
16 February
9213030%

To be fair, whenever there is a small trail I went for it. So I am expecting my percentages to be lower than the stated catch rate for critters, as sometimes I did not go for critters. But still, the displayed % catch rate of critters ranges from 31% to 36% depending on team, while small hovers around 7-9%.

I am using almost the same hunting teams, so the stats are not 100% comparable, but they should be close. I did swap out a stalker and a two chasers in-between, but they were already pretty well trained and leveled by the time winter hit; my lowest synergy is 82% and lowest proficiency 74%. You can see my team's stats in my den page. They are all around 200 in the relevant stats.

There's not much else I can add other than letting the data speak for itself.

For anyone else who wants to look at their own log and see how success rates compare, I found the easiest way is to search your user log for "finished a hunt". Then go to Jan 18-23 which is last winter. I run 3 hunting teams and for me it started on page 33, but yours will be sooner if you hunt less. Then just count them up. The word "Capture" is in the success message but not the fail, so I searched for that in the browser and used the highlighting as an easy way to differentiate.

I legit have more food than I did last winter when I lived in an easier biome with better proficiencies and synergy. I legit replaced 90% of my hunters this winter with less skilled wolves and still caught more, so they don't seem to have made it harder.

Im barely catching anything despite having the same hunters and the same starting biome so I guess Im just unlucky lol. all previous winters were very easy

Thank you so much for the offer!! I'm gonna try my at gathering today but if I see I can't manage, I'll let you know. I cant afford to pay for so many wolves if they leave x=x

The Tundra is perfect for that job if you've got it unlocked.
