Development Update #6.1

Posted 2021-02-12 14:24:19

Maybe this isn't the place for this but I would like to add that stats having a tangible impact on the game is the ONLY reason I am still playing. I briefly played a few other pet sims for no longer than two weeks because your pets didn't DO anything. There were no goals to work towards and I very quickly got bored. I think Wolvden is difficult, but that's what keeps me coming back, and it is doing a good job balancing the game for both casual and non-casual players.

So my Issue isn't necessarily with the (alleged) hunting difficulty increase, or the high stat expectation, or anything like that, but rather the vague and confusing way it was rolled out and how the information we were given about the updates wasn't super helpful or relevant to most players' experience. I felt like I had to scramble to make sense of things and spend a lot of time trying to untangle what should be a straightforward concept.

I hope this doesn't come off as too critical, I am really happy with Wolvden so far and how the game is coming along! Just if anyone is listening I think better changelog documentation would help lessen the surprise / complaints with each update.

Take pairbonding as an example - a universally-lauded feature that most everyone uses and loves. Of course it was an addition of a new system and not a change to an existing one, but I do think part of its success was due to the fact that all the conditions were clearly spelled out in the update, and everyone had to go through a tutorial before using the feature. That way everyone knows what to expect right at the beginning and there were no surprises, which is a win-win for everyone.

I am generally in agreement with the people who have been complaining, HOWEVER we must be patient and see if winter ending changes anything

if not, all of these concerns are pretty valid Imo

But Wolvden is a new, rapidly-evolving game so we have to just hang in there

I think Webstreak said what I think best, I dont mean to sound insensitive to others having problems (and I know Ive been there from bad choices ingame) but it feels better to work towards something like this that isnt too difficult but is just tangible enough that it still takes time and work, I like that and its why Ive logged in every day as opposed to other games I had such as PokeFarm Q that I go on and off of for long periods of time, I got back into that around the time I started wolvden but ive stopped playing that for a few months now cause all I have to look forward to is a melanistic Pokemon... And thats incredibly hard. Slowly raising my pack this way feels more rewarding.

I also agree with the wording and such, sometimes things can end up sounding confusing and even too vague, this was probably just one of those times

Only 20% of my hunts were successful today (2 out of 10), with 350-450 stat wolves; I live in a starter biome as well... I'm confused because this doesn't match the rates on the spreadsheet at all

Rates on the sheet don't account for season. It's winter now, which is the hardest season for hunters.

Active rain or snow also reduces rates.

I think winter is a hard 25% decrease that's applied across all trails after all other calculations have taken place. I am guessing this based on a few people with decently high stats in the mountains that have critter and small trails capped at 75%. I can't think of any other explanation as to why they would be the same.

My wolves are only finding 1% critter trails...regardless of their stats/season, this is really terrible.

Again I'm a newbie here, but isn't hunting supposed to be hard?  If you look at actual wolves they don't have a very high hunting success rate.  Next to human factors starvation is a major cause of wolf death and it helps keep the population in check.

@🦗Locust🦗 You appear to live in the Swamp, and it's one of the biomes with the hardest difficulty. It should be difficult. I don't know if Websteak's 25% was definitely accurate but that sounds plausible. Outside of winter you will hopefully see better luck but it just may not be viable to live there without high stat wolves. It may be wise to move biomes for the winter if you are having trouble feeding your wolves, until everyone gets a better feel for how these changes impact hunting.

I don't mean that to sound dismissive or anything when I say "it should be difficult". But wolves should need to have high stats to live in the hardest biomes imo or what's the point?

Yea but only 1% or so critter trails?  There's 4 different levels of prey, at least let a full proficiency and high synergy team have a chance at critters.
