'Swap marking slots' item

Posted 2020-11-07 00:17:11

@Phantom but yall are specifically using raffle exclusive markings as examples of breeding markings to different slots as a reason to not have a marking slot swap item. Having a slot swapper would increase the value of these raffle excluse marks because people could have them anywhere

Which would devalue it because if a wolf had an exclusive mark, if that make ever got rereleased (which sometimes happens) in a more "desirable" slot, that would devalue it because people could just get around it to begin with and there'd be no point to putting out special markings in certain slots.

I mean 1. Its been suggested already that special markings be locked in place if users/mods are really particular on that

2. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on whether not it would be more or less valuable. Cause imo I wouldnt buy a pup if I didnt like the marking order - special marking or not.

I'm going, to be honest, I don't know why some of yall are against the idea of a marking swapper

How is Merle(slot 10) better than Merle(slot 1) they both still pass and still exist on the wolf regardless, the only difference being how it shows up I've always priced my wolves based on their Stats, Base and Markings not really specifically the markings slot, I'mma have to agree with Vincent I feel like it would increase the value of a wolf since you'll be able to move the markings anywhere

Again I just feel like this is purely cosmetic sure you could say it cuts some of the breeding time a bit but breeding as a whole takes a long time and since females can only breed once a month it can take months to get that dream wolf you really really want that or you can spend a fortune on applicators/marking removers to get what you want

Maybe I'm not experienced enough in the Marking market so if someone wants to go full-on explanation as to why marking swappers are a horrible idea go right ahead

i supported this idea back on lioden as well, but i think comparisons between the two sites should slow because the devs made it clear they intend on the sites being significantly different and the sites themselves are already very different. i still don't see the slot marking market as a very good argument (basically the only reason people oppose it is because they gain monetary benefit from breeding rare slots) and especially since this game is so early on in the making, there's hardly a slot market to hurt. it would be best to implement this now before people start really complex projects once more BO markings come out in specific slots

still, though, if there's too much pushback there, i would also support a marking switcher that can only be used for applicator (besides RMA-only) marks. i see legitimately no reason to oppose that, at least haha

I... I need this item to exist. Very badly. I've seen Merle pups in the trading center that are absolute perfection... until I see that their colored Merle is on top of a white ventral marking. :/ Yeah, I could remove that white marking and move it over top of the Merle in some cases, but it would cost me 6GC to move it - 7GC if the re-applied mark came out at a bad opacity or I had to remove another mark to move it, 8GC if both. Even more GC if I have to shuffle any additional marks, all at a minimum of 6GC per. This also isn't possible in the instance the colored Merle is in slot 10.

I... admittedly have little idea of how markings are passed from parent to pup, but all of Meziki's puppies who have his marks have them in the same slots he does... I don't see how you could breed a marking into a slot where that marking hasn't been previously applied in some other manner? I could understand if, like, it's a combo mark - 'We have released Marking C on this raffle wolf. If you want this marking, you have to breed to this wolf and its offspring or breed Marking A and Marking B on other wolves.' Then yeah, you could get it into different slots by applying the non-combo marks in other slots on other wolves. But, if it's not a combo mark or can't otherwise be bred without the exact marking being in the pedigree, I would assume it impossible to 'move' it via breeding?

As mentioned, the devs could make certain markings immune to the item anyway, so it's not a valid argument to say it would devalue having the marking in a specific slot... Not that specific marking slots seem to have any sort of value anyway outside of personal willingness to pay. I will pay more for a puppy with White Inuit or White Tamaskan Unders in slots 7+, but that doesn't mean the puppy is actually more valuable than one with it in slot 5 or 6. It just means that since I am being a picky butt, I'm willing to cough up more money so people will deal with my pickiness and bring me what I want. I have not yet seen anyone trying to sell their wolves by hyping up what slot their markings are in.

support!!!! it would make customizing wolves so much easier to swap markings around!!!

also to everyone arguing that it would devalue the special/raffle markings: staff could just lock those specific markings to those slots so that they cannot be moved around unless bred out? it wouldn't devalue them at all if that were the case.

I was going to suggest something like this myself if no one else did. This would be great!

Just want to bump this considering that after the pair bond update, this would help even more for making users' breeding projects possible. I have a wolf with red points that I intend to use to breed auburn points, but uh... that requires not just a wolf with black points, but specifically a wolf with black points in slot 10. According to search, there are currently only 16 of those in the game. As opposed to the 6 pages of wolves with black points in any slot. None of those 16 wolves are for sale or stud, so currently I'm just out of luck. It feels really absurd that two wolves with compatible markings are just immutably incompatible because their markings are in different slots.

You can get combo markings from RMAs, right? So surely it's no harm to have an item that helps people breed for them.

Lots and lots of support on this from me. This would be extremely useful, not only in customizing wolves but also to stop wasting GC on so many separate marking removers/applicators.
