'Swap marking slots' item

Posted 2020-11-05 23:27:36

I think a marking swap item would be awesome.  I don't understand dynne's argument either.  Marks cannot be "bred" into a different slot than the parents had it on Lioden.  So if there's celestial speckles in slot ten it was released there.  I don't think slot limiting for a marking is a good thing, but if the devs do then they can add rarity tiers and some tiers of markings won't be eligible for swapping.

I'm all for this so I support

On Lioden I've always found it frustrating while trying to make pretty lions/studs when it came to markings in the wrong slots because then the marking either A, doesn't show because it's covered or B, ruins the look and makes the lion very unappealing plus the huge amount of time/funds to try and make a so-called "dream lion"

Heck I'm sure a lot of people purely want a "Marking slot changer" for cosmetic reasons I know I do, anything to lessen the huge amount of time required in breeding-projects as well is welcomed in my book

2 marks that slot exclusive on lioden is the mottled rosette and mottled stripes. these markings are fixed to slots 6 and 8 respectively. I forget if white underfelt is slot exclusive. With a marking swapper or mover it would cause other fixed marks to be able to be moved. If people want hybrids on wolvden I'm expecting more hybrid exclusive marks, which would mean its unlikely a slot mover will come to be since certain markings are introduced in certain slots in a reason. In order for celestial speckles to be in slot 10 on lioden someone had to be able to breed it. It would mean nothing if you could just move the markings willy nilly, even as a grove item. It would actually undervalue celestial speckles in slot 10 cause then anyone could do it.

And who knows what kind of a pain hybrid marks might end up if you could move them.

Tbh I think that having more control over where a marking goes would actually increase the value of pups and wolves. How many pups and wolves are chased because the order of marks on them come out looking kind of ugly ?

This would also help fix the problem of accidentally usong an rma or marking applicator on the wrong spot : 0 some designs ive made for wolves require a very specific marking order that would have been hell if I made a mistake while applying them.

I mainly don't support, but partially do, in certain aspects.

I don't think that raffle exclusive, RMA exclusive, or Breed-Only Variations of markings should be able to be switched, but every other marking in the Marking Applicator in the Grove, sure, why not. If players were able to switch a slot 1 Black Merle Patches to slot 10 on their own will, the market for merles would go down considerably and make these markings less desirable because a player can move it themselves.

I mean, if I could move my Zircon Underfur or Dinar Back to Slot 10, then I wouldn't want another wolf that has it at all. Marking Opacity Changers are already big because you can change any marking of your choice to 100, so I like to put certain merles/inuits I have to 100 to make them look better, but with markings, if you want that marking on a pup and you breed a wolf with that marking, the percentage opacity of the pup is randomized, so it isn't too OP for the players.

I think this takes away the grind for breeding a breed only marking in a specific slot, so I don't really support this all too much. I get the sentiment, though.

This also got rejected on Lioden iirc.

I mean i also dont understand how you would get an 8 slot marking to slot 3 through breeding, afaik markings stay in the same slots and just colour can be affected

By finding a wolf that has the marking or applying it yourself

Yes please! I love my lead's red dorsal, but I wish it was under his black saddle ticking. When it comes to the eventual raffle wolves with a specific marking in a specific slot, perhaps the item could be coded not to work on those as a workaround?
