February NPC Compromise #3: Gender is a Like/Dislike

February NPC Compromise #3: Gender is a Like/Dislike

As of writing this, the official poll running is whether to have all of the NPCs dateable regardless or keep their preferences. The results are neck-and-neck, so I've decided to brainstorm a few compromises. I'm splitting them into multiple topics for ease of devs seeing which are supported/not supported the most - I hope this is okay!

For this option, all NPCs would be in the same pool, but Gender would be a Like/Dislike much like Base Color, Eye Color, Date Location, etc.

Pros:
- Complete player freedom of who to date
- Preserves NPC sexualities to a point

Cons:
- May be difficult to program - the rest of the likes/dislikes are based on your Lead Wolf's attributes or options you choose for the date, while this would have to pull from the choice you made at the beginning of the event.
- Roleplayers who wish not to break NPC sexualities would be at the mercy of RNG to give them dateable wolves

Other options:
February NPC Compromise #1: Gender-Change Item in LB Shop

February NPC Compromise #2: Shared Pool - RNG Weighing/Options Added at End

There was an early screenshot of the event last year that showed sexuality in the likes and dislikes, so it's possible that's still floating around in code somewhere. It's a fine compromise, though I do hope they just open the pool and leave it at that personally. Still supported though! And your second suggestion!

Interesting, I didn't know that! I wonder if it might not have been an earlier version that sourced from your Lead Wolf's mechanical sex, though. And if it was compatible with some of the NPC wolves being bi/pan by default. But if it is already partially programmed in, it might very well be something they can get working again!

Thanks for your support! Yeah, any compromise isn't going to be perfect for both sides. I'm personally on the other end, preferring the replay value of having a very different group of wolves show up different years so long as I choose a different gender to identify as at the beginning of the event each year. Which the one this topic's about wouldn't help with all that much, but it'd at least allow for the roleplay aspect to stay a bit better than just having everyone be pan.

I don't feel convinced of this solution considering reasons I brought up here.
