Pack Research Report

Well, this was rather unexpected! I was pulled from my post to set up some forward camps in the Tundra in the off chance the pack moves there this spring and by the time I return to my usual post, autumn's nearly over! Unbelievable! Thankfully, there were numerous reports to keep me updated on the pack's well being and to begin, I'd like to announce that Ella is expecting yet another litter of pups! My reports say she was surprisingly pregnant a few weeks ago which is very early considering winter is their standard breeding time. No matter, we expect this litter of pups to do just as well as the rest and it seems as if Ella is reusing a den from her previous litter. I'll have the location marked on the map I attach at the end of this report.

Additionally, all three hunting teams have done considerably well this autumn however they have slowed down quite a bit. Apparently they've been spotting numerous lone wolves within their territory and the hunters seem to be their first line of defense given they have no scout for the time being. Nearly every time the hunters have gone out on a hunt, one or two would spot a loner and get into a small fight which would result in their prey being lost. Hopefully these lone wolves will scatter once winter arrives and my crew and I certainly hope these wolves won't try anything while Ella has her pups.

Pack Research Report

This is a strange start to the winter months. I've never seen the pack this nervous within their own territory. We have footage of a few lone wolves and small groups of raiders wandering the Taiga as of late and it appears the Alhavenlan Pack feels rather threatened by them. Due to this, the adolescents haven't been able to tag along with the hunting teams and I fear for their training. They may lack the necessary skills and habits to make effective members once they're older if they are unable to continue their training.

Speaking of the hunting teams, it appears that Team 2 has continued to hunt within their primary hunting grounds in order to escort Team 3 to the edge of the forest that leads into the Tundra. Team 3 is a rather small hunting team so it does not surprise me that another hunting team is travelling with them to keep them safe in these uncertain times. As for Team 1, they appear to be on guard duty majority of the time and will only hunt when both Teams 2 and 3 return safely. This might be a tough winter for the pack this year and I pray that all of them will remain safe and healthy.

We will keep the reports coming and write any emergency reports if necessary but I truly hope it will not get to that point. Until then, please stay safe Alhavenlan Pack.

Pack Research Report

Well! This was rather unexpected! It appears Ella's newest litter has been born a day earlier than my crew expected and it seems to me that she's favoring one pup over the others. Ella is clearly anxious about something with this newborn as we've seen her bring her mate inside the den repeatedly which is unusual behaviour for her. Especially with her newborns. While we can't get a good look at them just yet, we'll be keeping a close eye on them all once they start exploring the world outside of the den.

As for the hunting teams, all of the teams have done quite well and it appears young Danyla and Ellana have joined up with Team 3. Apparently, this was the morale boost this small team needed as we've spotted them going after small game now which is a considerable improvement given that they were mostly hunting gulls and rabbits before. As for Teams 1 and 2, they both continue to do quite well and bring down numerous large and medium sized prey for the pack to eat while keeping a close eye out for lone wolves.

Speaking of the lone wolves, it seems like they've backed off for now. I've had very few sightings of loners wandering near the pack which is great news since Ella just had her pups. Additionally, Revanas who's Team 3's stalker, has been injured on a hunt. She has quite the open wound and although the bleeding has stopped, it is still rather uncomfortable for her but it doesn't stop her from hunting as she still leads her team to the Tundra quite regularly now.

Pack Research Report

Spring is here and as it turns out, my crew was correct about the pack moving to the Tundra this spring! Reports are coming in from our Research Camp Alpha that they've spotted the large pack and have been observing all of them quite closely now. However, there's been a shift in the social dynamics of the pack it appears! The previous alphas, Ella and Varogathe, appear to have conceded and Irosylis with Fenghi'lan by his side, have stepped up to fill the leading roles.

We've never seen something like this happen before, especially not with both alphas still alive and well but I figure this may have to do with Ella's age. She's getting close to 7 years now with Varogathe closing in on 6 years himself. But, I know the pack will be well cared for in Irosylis's care. He's one of Ella's first few pups so he's well trained and respected throughout the entire pack. My crew and I know this new alpha pair will do well. Additionally, it also appears that Fenghi'lan is expecting pups! We're unsure when they'll be born but it's safe to say no one was expecting them to have a litter so soon after the change in leadership! This pack will definitely be kept busy as they'll be having a bunch of new little ones to watch over on top of Ella's fourth litter of pups.

Speaking of Ella's fourth litter of pups, we now understand why she was so nervous a few weeks after the pups were born. Unfortunately, it appears that one of the black pups we've named Tuelenas is completely blind. Ella is taking her new retirement to spend all of her time watching over him and she is apparently trying to teach him with little success. The little pup is quick to anger and frequently is found sitting by himself when the rest of the pack is around.

But, as far as hunting goes, all three teams are a little worse for wear. Teams 1 and 2 have taken to hunting as frequently as possible in the Tundra now but the only successful team seems to be Team 2 while Team 1 is struggling to find any herds. We have seen Team 2 bring down a few caribou calves recently but they seem a bit nervous about tackling a fully grown caribou for now. Team 3 on the other hand is still hunting and maintaining the pack's control in a portion of the Taiga. They are also struggling to find any large prey but we're confident that with some time they'll be just as accomplished as the other teams.

Pack Research Report

Man, it is shocking to see how poorly the hunting teams have adjusted to life in the Tundra. Team 2 seems to be doing the best out of all of them but Team 1 and 3 are truly struggling out here. Thankfully, they've managed to just barely catch enough prey to feed all of the pack members today! I was really worried about them a bit ago as a few had gone hungry due to poor hunts but they seem to be doing better, slowly but surely!

Speaking of the teams, Teams 1 and 3 remain doing relatively poorly in both the Tunda and Taiga respectively. Team 1 has managed to catch a few small critters for the pack to eat like stoats for example but they're quickly devoured by the hungry pack. Team 3 on the other hand has had some luck finding small game as of late but the majority of their hunts have been lost within the thicker parts of the forest or to other predators like bears and other wolves. Team 2 on the other hand are the ones single handedly feeding the majority of the pack! They've had quite a bit of luck finding a few caribou and muskox herds and they've picked off a few calves for the pack and the young pups to eat. This nutritious food will definitely help the pack stay happy and healthy after all.

In other news, I'd like to announce that Fenghi'lan has had her litter of pups today! Looks like it's a litter of 4 and the majority seem to have lighter pelts which should help them survive out here in the Tundra when they're older. But that appears to be all the news for today! We wish these two litters to remain safe and for the pack to be well fed. Things are going to get a lot more difficult once summer hits after all!

Pack Research Report

Summer is here yet again and by the looks of it the pack has pushed deeper into their hunting grounds in order to keep up with a massive caribou herd Team 2 has been tracking. The other two teams have yet to make an attempt at hunting this caribou herd but we're sure it'll happen sooner or later. They just need to get their confidence back up after loosing so many hunts when the pack still lived in the Taiga.

Speaking of which, all three teams continue to do well! They've brought back so much food that they've had to leave a few carcasses behind on the move which some scavengers and even bears were quick to takeover. Team 2 has been constantly pestering this caribou herd and picking off calves when they can but I fear the young caribou might get too big for them to hunt soon. We shall see though! As for Teams 1 and 3, both are a bit intimidated by the herds and have instead decided to travel quite a distance to find smaller and easier game to hunt. Although, they've both done rather well with this plan as we've seen them bring back numerous porcupine and hares for the pack to eat.

In other news though it appears that Fenghi'lan, the alpha female, has been injured after a hunt yesterday. We're not certain what might have happened but we hope she'll recover quickly. Team 3's success weighs heavily on her and if she cannot keep up to deliver the final blow, I fear Team 3's hunting might suffer until she heals. Also, Tarsynumi has chosen to leave the pack late last night. We wish her the best of luck with her travels and hope she stays safe out there.

This is an Emergency Report!

Pack Research Report
May 22nd, 2023

I can't believe this just happened. Just as we were beginning to review trail cam footage to find out how the alpha female, Fenghi'lan, was injured in the first place one of our crew members alerted us to an attack happening in the Taiga. Now, we know the pack doesn't hunt there too frequently but Team 3 were regulars there in order to maintain their control over it until winter came. But unfortunately, this battle did not end well and we have lost Fenghi'lan. Danyla was also present for this attack and jumped into action when she saw Fenghi'lan was outnumbered. Danyla guarded her alpha female until the bitter end and only came out with a few wounds that quickly healed with some time.

Unfortunately, Team 3 appears to have withdrawn completely within the Taiga and the pack is no longer supporting the borderline they were maintaining there. Instead, they've re-positioned their southern border along the timberline leading into the Tundra and are keeping a close eye on their newfound border in case the group of wolves decide to make another attack. Irosylis has especially taken extreme caution and will only take short breaks during his watch to reassure his young pups and his packmates. We cannot imagine how hard it must be on the young ones or any of the pack members for that matter.

But, we hope the Alhavenlan Pack remains safe and unharmed as summer wraps up. Due to the nature of this sudden report, I will not be writing up another report closer to the end of summer as usual. So, lets move on to the hunting news.

Hunting Teams 1 and 2 have continued to hunt tirelessly throughout the day in order to scrounge up enough food for the pack to eat. Team 1 struggled to catch anything today while Team 2 was mostly in the same boat. Only getting lucky with a few porcupine and caribou calf kills which thankfully fed most of the pack. No one has gone hungry today which is relieving. I wouldn't want any of these wolves going hungry today, not after what they've just went through. As for Team 3, they've completely stopped hunting. Danyla has wounds to tend to and most of the hunting team is still in shock it appears. We're unsure when they'll return to hunting but hopefully it won't take them long to rally themselves and find a new hunter to join their ranks.

Addditionally, I've updated the pack's map with their new position and borders. Hopefully one day they'll brave the Taiga once more but until then, I expect them to have a much harder winter this year without having access to the Taiga. But that's all for now. Pack Research Report

Autumn is here and as always, it seems to have given the pack a renewed sense of energy! It also appears they've found a new hunter to take up the empty finisher position in Team 3. This new wolf has a dark gray coloration with white along her back, we've been calling her Seranni and it appears she's been hunting with the pack for quite a few weeks now! At first they were rather hesitant about her getting close to the pack but slowly they warmed up to her and she's been hunting with them ever since.

It's nice to see Team 3 going on hunts again and it's almost like they've gotten a confidence boost since Seranni joined their ranks as I haven't seen them loose a single hunt yet! This honestly might be a new record for the pack! As for Teams 1 and 2, they continue as usual with very little issues. Team 2 continues to track and hunt young caribou while Team 1 brings down small game and critters.

In other news, after Seranni's introduction to the rest of the pack, it looks like they all moved northward in order to keep up with new caribou and muskox herds they've been tracking lately. There also appears to be a few illnesses popping up within the pack as the temperatures drop. Terys, one of Team 2's chasers, has been coughing quite frequently although it has yet to spread to the rest of the pack and Revanas seems to have been injured after a coyote pack attacked Team 3 during a hunt last week. A few other pack members and team 3 members are also sporting new scars but over all, the pack seems to be in high spirits!
