Immortal Lead Wolves | Non-retirement Version

Immortal Lead Wolves | Non-retirement Version

This is not a suggestion to be able to retire your old lead wolf and make them immortal! There are much better threads for that. What I'm after is being able to immortalize your lead and being able to keep playing as them.

Ello!
Are you someone who gets attached to their lead easily? Someone who would rather play with the one same wolf? Or are you just tired of having to work hard into making a perfect wolf as your lead only having to do it all over again every 6 months? Well I have just the suggestion for you. Immortal lead wolves!

There would have to be some heavy restrictions in place to make this balanced enough. So on that note immortal lead wolves would NOT...

  • be able partake in the leaderboard and would be excluded from it.

  • be able to gain exp and level up. They would be stuck at the level they were immortalized as.

  • be able to gain stats. From explore, battling or stat rising items.

  • be able to breed or stud. If a lead is a breeding male they would have to be removed from that role before they can be immortalized. Pregnant leads or those with unweaned puppies would also not be able to be immortalized until the pups are old enough.

  • NEW 17/05/2022 - Immortal lead wolves would "forget" the map and have to scout it again from time to time. This could happen every 5 or 6 months (according to the regular lifespan of a mortal lead). A new cool-down counter should be added to reflect this. Nothing too complicated.
Due to immortal lead wolves not being able to age I think the only way to retire one should be through paying the 25GC fee that is also paid when retiring a lead early. If you retire a immortal lead wolf they get added into the dynasty and you are able choose your new lead like normal. With this said I don't think immortal lead wolves should count into the immortal slots as the lead wolf doesn't already count into the pack limit, either.

Immortal lead wolves should still lose hunger (as that plays into energy regen), be able to get sick and need curing, lose hp, etc.

I also think that a new item to the grove should be added (maybe a bit pricier than the standard jellyfish?).

See holes in my suggestion? Think it could be improved? Need clarification? Want to voice your support? Or maybe say why you don't like the suggestion? Feel free to comment below!

Hello! I love this idea! My lead died recently and I was very sad. I eventually got over it but I miss him. This won't be very good for people with little GC but would make the game more interesting.

Support. I will be far less invested in buying decor if I can't immortalize my lead.

I would like to support but wouldn't this take advantage of the biome reset things? Unless this immortality makes them forget things every so often (when normal leads dies) cause other wise this would still be too much of a advantage even tho I would actually like this concept

That is a very good point and something I hadn't thought about yet!

Indeed it could be seen as an unfair advantage compared to regular leads and so I have come up with possible solution to the issue.

Like you propose the lead wolf would "forget" the map and have to scout it again from time to time. This could happen every 5 or 6 months (according to the regular lifespan of a mortal lead). A new cool down counter should be added to reflect this. Nothing too complicated.

Feel free to throw out your thoughts/ideas to the mix. I will be mulling this idea for a bit before setting anything in stone. :)

Personally, I don't see the appeal; if my lead wolf couldn't gain stats, battling would feel really pointless/boring. I'd lose interest in ever exploring (except during lunar events, and those would become a chore instead of looking forward to gaining extra stats from all the extra battles).

That doesn't mean it's a bad idea if other people want it (obviously it would be optional, no one would have to do it) but for me it would suck all the fun out of a part of the game I currently enjoy.

And that is a valid opinion! However, to explain where I am coming from better I would like to explain my reasoning for this limit,

If immortal lead wolves were able to get stats like mortal leads it would eventually lead to big problems down the line. Because immortal leads would never die they would be able to gain stats infinitely. And considering how much stats affect the battle encounters I would say that this would give immortal leads far too much of an edge against mortal ones. It would create a big imbalance where having an immortal lead would be more beneficial than having a mortal one. Because then you could in theory keep building stats until your lead was strong enough to steamroll through all the battle encounters. Making trophy hunting far too easy. That is not something I, personally, would wish to see happen with my suggestion.

I never thought I would want to immortalize my lead (and/or keep playing with him), but... I am losing my Requiem tonight and I just am not ready to part with him (I know it is too late for him, but it got me thinking). I do like the suggestion, aside from missing out on battle stats. Since he wouldn't be able to be on the leaderboard/breed (both of which I agree with), the stats wouldn't do too much. While in theory your argument makes sense, in the end Requiem wins most all his battles anyway. So, it wouldn't change too much? I would still have to heal him and wait for energy regeneration. If it did become a problem, maybe battles could be weighted differently for immortal leads/leads with certain stats (since not everyone would want to gain stats and would be doing it for other reasons) to level things back out. Then they would still have a challenge in battle and get to earn rewards as they used to.

Opposed, it defeats the entire purpose of the gameplay. Your lead is intended to die, you pick another, most biomes reset, repeat. If you want a wolf to live forever, I'd suggest not making them your lead.
I also feel like it could be OP in terms of stats. You immortalize a high stat lead? Boom permanent leaderboard position.

Thank you for your honest opinion! However, I would encourage you to reread the suggestion. I have already listed a solution to your concern about the immortal lead wolves partaking in the leaderboards. It being that immortal lead wolves would not be able to participate in any of the LB categories. In the same way, that immortal packmates also do not.
