Community Update #37

Posted 2022-04-01 21:56:46 (edited)
@Sunny: Claiming is optional.  If it's more convenient for you to receive PMs, then you can request players PM you to claim, just as they did before this update.  Otherwise, you can leave the chat box open on the sidebar and check your message to see who claims every so often.

@Midnight: We don't take suggestions on the news, sorry!  I don't think we'd add an unclaim button because at the end of the day, it's optional and you can always turn down the gift.  The person offering a giveaway also does not need to send it out to someone that claims.  Edited to add that it could also mess up any players who do "fifth claim gets a wolf" if people could unclaim and reclaim, as it would likely reset the claim list.  That being said, you can post on the Game Development forum if you'd like to see a change.

@Hawkins
I have albino and melanism wolves and carriers, it's hard to find a carrier with those unless it is being advertised by someone online. Sometimes the search option isn't good enough for me when looking for what I need. ESPECIALLY if I am looking for a brachy carrier.

A separate chat for studs is a good idea. I'm willing to accept it properly if I can have the sales and stud chat available if it is implemented. Otherwise, currently, I am having to prioritise one thing when I want to prioritise two things.

@Katie: ahh yes that makes sense. Didn't think about that.

i personally love this update. As someone who does post multiple ads, it's a bit of a loss, but honestly, it's a lot more beneficial than it is detrimental.

As a lioden player, there was a really bad influx of sales spam recently and this feature really helped with that, so that i could post my ad and not have to see a dozen of the same ad pushing mine and other players' ads out of view. I know wolvden doesn't currently have the same scale of an issue, but it is only a year old. With new coming members there will be more spam, just like there was on lioden. This is a great way to both counteract and prevent that from happening. Plus, there could be a bunch of spam that we are not noticing, because we don't have to notice it, whereas it's the mods' job. They are going to notice it happening a lot more than we are, so there could very well be a hidden influx of spam that we just aren't personally realizing or seeing.

We don't have to worry about our ads being pushed out of view by someone's 4 ads, and as some players said already, im sure it'd be a lot less stressful for the mods. The way i see it, they are making their jobs easier, at a very minor inconvenience to us. 10 minutes is not worth so much stress on a small team of people. We can wait.
I know some people are really upset about this, but please don't bring it out on the devs or staff!! They're doing their best with the tools they have, and trying to prevent stress on themselves. They're people too.

Thank you staff for doing what you're doing. We love you, and know you'll continue to make wolvden a safe and enjoyable community for us! Don't let the hostility get you down. <3

As @MoeGo said, having to come back to scroll through and check to see who's claimed your giveaway is majorly inconvenient. I only go there to give away food or pups, and expect people to PM me because I don't hang out in that chat often.

I feel a bit bad for the devs - for months people have been like "we hate PMs! please let us claim directly in chat!" and now that the system is changed, other people are like "I prefer PMs"

Everyone has a different style. I give away pups by forum topic and don't check the giveaway chat after dropping a link, so I'll probably add a note "please post in topic, I will not be checking chat" to my standard giveaway post.

The fact that the mods are saying we have to make forum posts is what is bothering many of us. I have said it several times but let me say it again. Not many people want to go scroll through a forum post for three hours when they are looking for a stud, or a sale or a item. Do you? I know I certainly don't. I play Lioden to and I don't see the need for this update here because the scales of people playing are vastly different. The scales of which ads are pushed here is much less than there and that is something we can all agree on. It isn't that I hate the wait time. Well I do but for a different reason than you seem to think. If you want to put a timer than fine, but allow three ads. That way players can advertise their stud, their raffles and a general sale one. It allows people to sort through the three very quickly. Realistically it will more often be two. Because nobody has raffles every minute of the day. They may however have stuff for sale and a stud they want to get love. Heck they could up it to 20 minute cool downs and I wouldn't be that angry if I could do them both.

I understand mods are people. I have modded communities on forums, on subposts, on DA, on discord. I get the backlash shouldn't be directed at them. But there also has to come a point where you listen to the very real concerns of people. They listened when people were upset about GENE and they should listen now. What I just proposed would be a middle ground for them. It would slow down posts but it wouldn't punish players or make them choose between studs and sales. Cause right now that is very much what people are being forced to do. I want stud requests because I care about breeding good lines but I also want to sell my stuff in the TC. I shouldn't have to choose between the two.

I get that some players could've felt irritated by getting their ad hidden by another player posting 4 ads at once.

I get that from the mod's point of view there could be much more spam than we could see as they're being deleted by them.

I get that there are new players everyday who need to be instructed when they post in Sales chat inappropriately.

But I don't get how there would be more spam in the future as the community grows. Players join the game, of course, but also players quit the game. Is there really more players posting in Sales chat? Wasn't there much more players during the first days after the public release thus more spamming issues then and will there be even more in the near future?

Personally so far I like the 10 minute timer in sales. I have time to actually read the ads. Before so many players were posting multiple ads that I hardly had time to read any of them before they were bumped out of sight. Maybe a little longer character limit would be nice though, or even a 5 minute limit to start off with to see how it goes. But so far I like it TBH.
I don't use the giveaway chat so that part I have no opinion on either way.

It's updates like the sales one that make me glad I'm dropping this game for a while
