Breeding to get high tiers

I bred two T3 Realgar's - both parents had parents that were T3 Realgar's. Both had a history of producing T3 Realgar's. The result of the breeding was three T1 puppies. I would assume that a breeding "like" to "like" should have better odds than that. That was my understanding on what I've read on other posts, etc. In other words: If I had bred her to a T2/Warm Dark - my chances of a T3 are worse and my chances for a T2 better? If I bred her to a T1/Warm Dark - my chances are much higher to get all T1's? At the same time - I also bred a T2 Warm Medium to a T3 Warm Medium - and again - got all T1's? Is it all completely random and makes no difference at all? If so, that is very discouraging and takes away the challenge of finding the perfect pair for what you want in your den. I was hoping that was the point of the game but I'm getting the impression that it doesn't matter??? Is that correct? Can anyone offer any insight?? |

I'm pretty sure that having T3 ancestors and/or having a history of breeding T3 has nothing to do with the chances of breeding T3. When breeding, genetics are calculated between the two parents and the rest of their family trees are ignored. And all T3 have the same chances of give you T3 pups either if they have breed tons of other T3 pups or not. At the end, it all comes down to RNG and how lucky you are when genetics roll. When I started my T3 R&C project, I bred my Realgar with another Realgar and I got no T3 (probably some T2, but I don't remember). Next litter, once again Realgar with Realgar, I got 2 or 3 Realgar pups at once. IIRC, I got at least one T3 pup in each of her following litters, safe maybe for one. I also got a Pyrope from two Realgar. My actual T3 females for R&C are a Flint and a Striped Flint. One of the two, in her first litter had no T3. The other one had three T3. But I'm pretty sure a T3 linage has no relevance in the breeding process. |

I'll have to research more about the R&C projects. I do raise any of my high mark, stat or tier pups that I don't want to keep or haven't been able to share with others, to Chase when they age up. I do it because I'd love to see higher stat or marked pups in the biomes - not sure if it makes a difference but figured I'd do what I can. Thanks for your help! |

I + III = 74% I, 25% II, 1% III II + III = 49% I, 50% II, 2.5% III III + III = 50% I, 40% II, 10% III so if those numbers are right, not surprised you didn't get any t3s from your t2 x t3 breeding- I've never gotten any either from mine. I can't find any special x t3 percentages, sadly :/. hope this helps! this is just what I usually refer to and use while breeding. |

For most people it's more an ethical matter of not breeding related wolves, as you said. And with time it kinda became some sort of additional challenge for some players, about keeping your breeding line "clean" and without having the same relatives even in far away generations. That's why right now low generation wolves are more popular: because it's easier to check their lineage and avoid inbreeding. Personally, I try to avoid obvious inbreeding (so parent-pup breeding) or at least I try to avoid common ancestors that I can see in the family tree page. I breed for beauty with an eye on good stats, so I don't worry too much about lineage as long as it's not obvious (because at that point, it might become harder to sell the pups) But there are other players that check all the family tree until the very first ancestor. It's really up to you to decide how important is inbreeding to your way of play. |

From this discussion I think I should also lean toward selling the high tiers I produce but don't want to keep rather than giving them away.... we'll see on that! |
