I believe it would make sense for developers to increase the chances of getting medium and large trails if the wolves in the party have high stats, if a wolf was born in that biome, or if the wolf is of a high level (15+). To my knowledge, there is simply no medium or large prey in these biomes to hunt. If these terms were added, it would reasonably maintain the difficulty of living in these biomes. I myself have been in Tundra since November, and have yet to see a medium or large trail. It's not that time is needed to adjust to these biomes terrain. I also breed for stats, so my hunting party each has 700+ stats, they aren't really potatoes. Hunting becomes obsolete when you move to these biomes. My pack is sustained by things I collect in explore. For this game function to become relevant to players in these more difficult biomes, I would like to see devs add or increase medium/large trails. If they had to decrease the explore encounters that give food items, I would actually prefer it because I would like for hunting to matter again. |

Showing that it's not unattainable at all: One of the prey options for a Tundra Large too. I don't spend much time in Tundra, but when I did, these were the times I saw Tundra large with G4 or below specially bred stalkers. I don't agree with changing how it works to find these trails - instead, I would much prefer there to be a higher value to finding and *succeeding* at these more difficult trails. A 28 use carcass from a large trail that takes over 750 combined stalker stats to find feels unequal to the same uses of a carcass from a beginner biome that takes less than a combined 200 stalker stats to find. Lowering the beginner biome uses would be unfair to newer or low-level players, or players who don't breed for stats - but raising the number of uses for these high-end trails would be nice. A 35 use carcass for example would feel a lot more like a big, tough to earn grab. === Also, I peeked into your den and I can immediately see why you're not finding tundra larges. Your stalker is only 157 / 205, so you'd at most be able to find Tundra and Rainforest smalls. To even see a Tundra medium your stalker needs to reach at least 550 combined stats. The only large trails your stalker will be able to see is medium biomes - Riparian, coniferous, prairie. To even see larges in Taiga you'd need at least 454-ish combined stats. Hopefully this helps explain things a bit! |

There IS large prey in those biomes- walrus carcass, for example, should be a glacier large (although admittedly I can't recall if it's a Tundra large or not)- it's just intensely difficult to raise stalkers that are smart and wise enough to sniff out those trails. Making hunting easier won't really do anything. Currently, which trails are found entirely depends on the relevant stats of the stalker (and iirc to some extent the synergy of the hunting party), and Id prefer it if it stayed that way. |

I believe it would make sense for developers to increase the chances of getting medium and large trails if the wolves in the party have high stats This is already the case! For instance, my wolf Meracydia regularly found large trails in tundra. To my understanding, it takes roughly 750 combined stalker stats (smarts + wisdom) to find large trails in tundra. Keep training your wolves and breeding for role stats, you'll get there! Nobody in the game has been able to find large trails in rainforest/glacier, but I don't know what the threshold for that is; it's possible we're real close and will get it in the next generation or so. I look forward to the challenge. |

I had no idea about the great difference in stat requirement for stalkers in different biomes. Really good to know that I should start looking for a 750 combined stalker stat wolf. I was pretty clueless for a long time as to why it was so hard I tried to research a while ago to see why it was so hard and couldn't find anything. Now I know what to do! Thanks so much to all of you for explaining and for the information! Knowing that it is possible now, and seeing that others have had quite a lot of success with medium/large, I no longer think any changes should be made to trails. LMAO |

For example, your stalker Juturna is likely to gain most of her stats next level up in Stength and Smarts, rather than Wisdom and Smarts, because she's highest in those two stats, despite her role being stalker. This generally isn't a problem with role-bred pups as their two highest stats will be the right ones straight out the gate. It's generally a problem when a wolf is raised as a hunter who wasn't bred for a particular role, or when leveling NBWs/wolves with NBW-ish stats. It's easiest to fix at low levels before the gap widens further through level ups, either by hunting in an easy biome that doesn't grant much XP (old method) or more typically by setting the wolf to train random pups in the relevant stat until it gains enough +1s from teaching to be able to level up safely. |
