Chased Wolf Chat

@Nei that story about someone finding a chased wolf and telling the person who chased that it was worthless reminded me of one of my own experiences with raising and chasing wolves.

I think it was over half a year ago, probably longer. For a while I had been raising and chasing wolves. I used to list all my raise and chase pups in one trade, so that if anyone wanted to buy one before they were chased they could pm me. I let people pay what they wanted, with a minimum of 25sc. And everyone was very fair about it!

Then one day I got a pm from someone (don't remember who they were, didn't save the messages). To summarize, they basically told me that all my pups were garbage, then offered to buy ALL of them for like 20sc TOTAL to use for herbalist fodder. So of course I told them no, that they were being rude and that that wasn't a fair price at all (they were offering less than 1sc for each pup), and thankfully they backed off.

Looking back on it, those pups were pretty good, especially for raise and chase (a lot had het eyes, some T2 bases, and otherwise just looked pretty), but that message still stung. I don't bother putting my raise and chase pups on the TC anymore, though I say on my page that they're available for sale if anyone wants (and sometimes I do get people asking to buy some, which makes me happy).

I consider myself a person with fairly thick skin. But I can only imagine how devastating something like that would be for someone more sensitive. Because sometimes the NBWs that people call trash are actual chased NBWs! Imagine raising a pretty pup, chasing it hoping that it'll make it through, that lil rush of excitement you feel when someone finds that wolf, only to see that person call it ugly trash because the wolf is T1 with a few markings. Makes me sad whenever I see that on the Chased wolf spotting thread. Idk what their definition of 'ugly' is, but a lot of those chased wolves don't look half bad.

I could ramble a lot more about chased wolves, but this post is already long enough lol. I'll save that for another day.

I understand people's frustrations regarding the current chasing/deleting system, I truly do. There's currently a big overpopulation, with no other practical use asides from the Enclave right now. Many users value short lineages and rare bases above anything else. That is no reason to lash out against people who R&C for fun and for no reward other than being happy so see our wolves being found, other users who simply use the chase feature for it's original intended purpose, or even the devs themselves!

Rare wolves are rare for a reason, and you can't expect to be handed out a new lineage wolf with a rare base/markings on a silver platter. RNG means luck favors nobody, and the Chased Wolf Spotting forum makes it seems like others have better luck than you, when it's far from the truth - most people simply choose to share their successful finds. No need to go there to act like the victim of a system that we the userbase are exploiting , for no other reason than making it more interesting/fun for all.

I'm not sure what 'ugly' is supposed to mean either. I'm not afraid to say I sometimes R&C T1 wolves, or with 3 markings at best, because I think they look interesting or that they have potential to look even better if somebody wants to give them a good home. I'm having fun, and if somebody doesn't like what I chase, by all means, rechase them. It's a free wolf I gave away for free. No hard feelings. What I will not tolerate and have no patience for, is users who are rude or throw tantrums, basically acting like choosing beggars.

Also don't forget that newbies, stats breeders and special base apps exist.
As a newbie, I was super happy to find a 5M T2, or a pretty 3M T2 (I'd have been happy with any T2, or a 3+ markings of any tier; remember chased unlock before starred wolves).
As a stats breeder, I once kept a 0M Black T1 with a very good stats reroll.
As someone who... sometimes shops in the lunar event shop? Which should not be that rare? I like T1s with a fair amount of markings (special-apping a T2 feels like a waste of tier).

There are a lot of different ways to play the game, and even if people who've played for longer tend to come to like market-valuable wolves better, that's not universal.
Also the hype about rare markings is kinda funny because due to selective breeding some are actually super common, more so that some not-rare marks. I absolutely respect if you breed them because you like them, or because they'll sell better, but thinking they're inherently superior is, well, kinda funny.

Is there any evidence for/merit to the idea that different leads have different RNG chances in general? I know people talk about their new lead/old lead finding more/less chased. Don't know why RNG would favor one lead over another unless it's stat-based, but... RNG be weird on here sometimes.

Wanted to ask because since my current lead hit lvl 20 I've found... maybe one a week or so if I'm lucky (haven't seen any this week or last week). I used to see at least a couple a week. Was thinking about switching leads anyways so

For me it's been exactly the same with my current as with my previous two leads - rotten luck to the bottom. I find chased so rarely that my muscle memory want to press leave every time I check what BS RNG is throwing at me + my past 7 chased (no joke)were re-chases so ... RNG in favor to some, a legend to others.

I can not answer that question truly. I did not Befriend wolves on my first lead much at all, beyond the core starters I had, until her last couple months.

My second lead spent a lot of time attempting to Befriend wolves. I did not skip them except when pack space got very stretched. I enjoy showing whatever pops up to my girlfriend for a few laughs. I would say refer to the previous chances we discussed for frequency - what was it? 1 in 30ish?

This lead I'm back to my antics of ignoring wolf-scent. Looking forward to what others share. :)

I think now's a good time to mention this thread! People track how many NBWs they find and post the data, and its really interesting to see what the breakdowns can be. I recommend keeping track of NBW's (using maybe your den page and then updating frequently) as long as you have the time to.

I started tracking NBWs when my current lead reached level 10, and my percentage is pretty close to that 1/30 (which would be 33% ish) - it's a little less at 28%. As of this post I've encountered 389 NBW's, of which 11 were chased wolves (and its worth saying that 7 of those were most likely rechased wolves).

@Food?  Love that thread! I tried doing it, but only kept up with about a week because I wanted too many details (daily number of encounters, including chased, rechased, starred and number of stars). There was a definitely difference from day to day.

Maybe the new question is level of lead; since I hit 20 chased have all but disappeared, but stars (still only 1 and 2) are pretty common now-- probably every 5th encounter or so. I'm worried that's going to be the new thing now (also all of the lunar battling I'm doing is not doing much with exp not being gained after 20). I know I've read here and there that the higher the lead, the more starred encounters; maybe they're competing with 6 starred? (do 3-5 stars even exist???)

I'll peruse that thread and see if there's anything on switching leads having a noticeable effect, otherwise it might just be perception of regular RNG (we are cursed to find patterns and structure in everything, after all).
