Hi!
I love the "number of living pups" information, and the "number of pups bred" one.
It's good for stud owners (for bragging/leaderboard rights), for lore players ("and anywhere they go, they always know someone, a far-off cousin or aunt"), for data-addicted players (like me) and for strict NIB players (if they have 75 pages of living pups, the likelihood of having another pup in your den related to them is pretty high).

But it could be interesting to know the total number of descendants (not just direct pups, but grandkids too).
For example, say a wolf has about, say, 100 living pups at the end of their life. That's a small-ish stud, right? But what if one of those is a hugely popular stud? They could have only 50 direct pups and more than 100.000 descendants. So they would count as a big stud, for bragging, lore, data, and NIB purposes.
It started off as mere personal curiosity, but I genuinely think it could be useful/interesting to a lot of players.
Have a nice day

Support! I'd be interested in this mostly out of curiosity. I loved my first stud, who passed away a few game years ago, and I want to see how big his extended family is and be proud of him.

My main concern is that it might be a big drain on site resources to compute. I'm not an expert, but I feel that adding up all of, say, Faelor's descendants might be extensive. (Faelor was one of my first thoughts when I saw this topic - "oh man, how big is that extended family?" We salute a legend )

@Lionel: maybe a way to reduce potential strain could be limiting how many gens away are counted? For example, only descendants within 5 generations are counted. But I definitely support.

Of course, as a wolf's descendants pass on, the number of descendants would go to zero, but I think it offers a pretty clear picture for a while, at least.

As it is, the living number of descendants still offers a clear picture for a while (I have no clue how Faelor still has so many pages of living pups when they were, I think, one of the first popular studs? Are there that many inactive players?), but yeah, the more gens the longer the picture lasts.
It would also lower the influence inactive players have on a stud's number of descendants (since their wolves don't die).

I agree it could be pretty resource-expensive, but there should be ways around it, like, I dunno, maybe calculate them the first time, and if they have more than, say, 50.000 descendants, just cache it (or always cache it); and only renew the cache every week or so.

Yeah I'd be super curious to know Faelor's and Emperor's number of descendants. And how more recent studs compare.

Wow, I hadn't actually re-read the first post; I reworded it so it says the same thing in a more, uh, inclusive way?

(just thought I'd explicitly mention it because that's the post you reacted to; it shouldn't change anything but I wanted to make sure you knew)
