Revisit Custom Decoration 'Tax' Price

Posted 2021-11-20 17:40:42
I mostly agree with Frisk. If tax depended on how you price the CD, you could just circumvent the system by purchasing your own CD for the lowest tax then sell it in the TC. For example, why would you directly price your CD for 6 GC earning only 3 GC if you could price the minimum, buy your own CD for 1 GC of tax then sell in the TC for 6 GC each so you earn 5 GC even though the buyer pays the same price?

Making it tax-free would be even more absurd. The artist would be able to generate infinite amount of CD, overloading the server and causing lag. Also, the artist would be able to offer free CD in trades, which means purchasing really valuable assets for CDs of no value.

I don't really get the whole exploiting the system argument. I mean… it's your art. It feels weird having to pay for something you drew yourself at all, especially when the GC doesn't go to any predetermined person but just kind of … disappears. I mean, what's the point? Who does this GC tax actually benefit?

You could pretty easily implement a timer for the artist specifically, so the lag option wouldn't happen. Say, you could buy one copy an hour. It wouldn't be too unreasonable because the artist would probably only want one or two at a time, and if they're smart they wouldn't keep too many copies in existence to keep the TC price high. For clarity, I do like the scaling tax idea the best, over there being none at all.

This tax is not your art you're paying, this tax is the cost of generating a custom decor item into the game. You have your art, but you need to have something to put the art on. If you requested canvases IRL to print your art on, you can't say it's weird to put money into something you drew yourself at all so you don't wanna pay for the canvases. Neither you'd ask for canvas discount just because you sell your art for cheap. Generally you don't draw on any of these printed canvases like you don't draw on additional custom decor you generate. If you want to request your own art, you gotta pay for the canvas that's not yours.

The world where CDs were for cheapest or free would be where artist friends would ask for refunded decors and stuff their wolves with cheap/free decor and where Raccoon Wares decors and crafted ones were more expensive ones when they're not supposed to.

You simply ask the devs to rip off their own salaries from CDs they generate. Game development artists take their time to inspect your CDs that you release and this tax from CD is the salary for their work. They're not supposed to be punished because you price your CDs cheap.

I think a proper way to prevent artists from creating "infinite decor" by setting their prices low would be to simply implement a cool down for changing the price. It can be as simple as 5 to 10 days (Rollovers?), but no decor artist in their right mind would even consider having their decor set to the lowest price for that long! I have one custom decor set currently to the lowest price possible, and that thing sells at least 1-2 copies a day! And it's horror decor! If more relevant decor were to be sold at a lower price, you'd definitely lose more GC than you'd make by having it at the lowest price for 10-30 days.

The only issue with this may be people needing to change the price, but again, in this case, it would only be a few days they'd have to wait in order to change their price.

It is frustrating that the lower I price my custom decor the less GC I will get but the game will still get the same amount. I want to earn GC but at the same time I don't want my custom decor to be so expensive as I want people to actually be able to buy it regardless if they have a lot of GC or not.

The tax in general should be entirely removed. I'm not sure how it is on Lioden, but in Flight Rising for example, there is absolutely no tax for custom decor. The artist already pays a fee for creating custom decor, so what is the point of a tax? I am clueless as to why the tax was even made. It's not like the game developers "get" the money from it.

The 5GC tax has discouraged me from purchasing any custom decor at all. It should be removed.

Never thought of that, I guess tax could be there to get us to buy more gold..? or to make the custom decor more valuable. But to be honest I do wish they'd just remove it, and instead just have a min price and have all of the revenue go to the artist.

I've been on a custom decor change search in game development recently, so naturally I found this one, especially since it is listed in the master list.

Now my brain can't calculate the more complicated arguments that have been thought out in the comments but for the main post... I don't think I agree with it.  I think it might be better for some price ranges, but from what I gathered from the explanation: say I wanted to earn 10gc from my cd, by this forums logic, to get a 10gc earning, the total price would have to be 20gcs?  It doesn't sound all that better for purchasers to me.  If I had to agree with any adjustment price it would be Cardéstal's idea.

But honestly, what I think should be done is get rid of the tax entirely.  We as the artists already pay to use by purchasing the custom decor creator for the 10gc and then to buy a copy for ourselves for 5gcs a copy.  I think those two alone are the perfect "pay to use our assets" way of income for wd, without the 5gc tax taking from our income of our own art.

Yeah! I really don't see the need for a high tax when the custom decor creator is already rather pricey, so that's GC going into the void already. I think maybe they could at least make the tax lower for smaller decors? Or maybe a system kinda like flight rising with their skins and accents. There could be different tax amounts if you make decors that cover different percentages of the page or something.

I wrote my last response just before bed, it's the next day so I did catch something I missed.

Ok so say they remove the tax, well what's gonna happen with the 5gc copy price for the artist?  Let's say you have a 2GC priced decor for public purchase but your own copy cost you 5gcs.  That isn't fair for the artist, the whole point of the copy price is to have their copy be cheaper.

So maybe for the copy price, if the tax is completely removed, have the copy price be half of what the public price is.  Public price is 2GC? Artist can buy a copy for 1gc.  Public price is 10gc? Artist buys a copy for 5.
