Tweak Chased Pool to Accept Fewer NBWs

Posted 2021-02-26 23:50:52 (edited)

Oh! I missed that people responded to me before ~

@ Ren - I feel like re-chasing good G1s would be enough of an edge case that it wouldn't matter too much, since there's not that much reason to chase them with the intention of making a cool G1 for someone because they're already G1. If they're nice enough that it would be a waste to delete them, then they're probably easy to sell or give away for free and have someone want to keep them. I guess if you had a cool wolf you'd bred, wanted to get rid of, but didn't want to sell and open up the lines to, but didn't want to completely delete, it'd get in the way, but it seems like something that happens very rarely. But anyway I really don't mind how it's implemented, I just want less boring chaseds like everyone here lol :p

WOW I just woke up to all these messages and I want to thank everyone for their support and discussion! I added all the suggestions to the first post (sorry if I missed anyone) but I think it's great to keep talking about the merits or disadvantages to the proposed changes.

@ Dżanek - Good thought! I updated the post to say less than 3 common markings because you're right, the intent was to filter out specifically NBWs. And having pups able to make it would be a good middle ground - it would reduce the "recycled" NBWs while also allowing some potatoes in, so it's not a guarantee that a chased is going to be really good.

I like the addition by Snow #21142 about changing the probability of being found in based on how old the pups / adols are!

@ Vyskar - it would be really cool to have a separate system, and while I don't pretend to know a lot about computer development, I think adding on to the existing system would be easier on the server and developers. We already know there is a system to filter some chased wolves (maybe it's random? I don't know) so adding a few checks to that system would be faster and probably more likely to happen.

@ Bluefire - this is another good suggestion! Not sure if you meant it this way but I would want some upper limit to it, or a hard cap like if it was in the pack for 0 or 1 RO then don't consider, but anything above that having an equal chance. We know chased wolves keep their age, so if it was weighted specifically by how long it was in the pack then older wolves would be more likely to appear.

Oh, full support!

I would really like a way to personally choose whether or not to allow a wolf to be introduced into the pool. That would be nice for NBWs as well as potentially other wolves that I might end up chasing as an adult. Sometimes you keep an "ok" puppy and then decide later on that its not worth keeping, so it would just be nice to have the option of "deleting" a wolf permanently if you don't think that wolf needs to exist.

I do like the idea of letting players have more agency in their unwanted wolves, but having a "delete" button seems kind of out of place in lore / running a wolf pack haha. So maybe add a "kill" button for the evil players and remove the Retire cost for the good ones? There would be no difference in the outcome (the wolves would go to your dynasty), just flavor, and maybe something along the line if they implement a karma system.

@Websteak:

I totally agree with you about the lore aspect! Personally i used "delete" as a more neutral term but yes I want the kill option for my potential future evil leads haha

Maybe claimed NBWs that are re-chased within 48h hours can be deleted instead of having a chance of re-entering the pool?

Absolutely support, especially if it means better wolves have a lower chance of being deleted. I've started breeding IB T3s to chase, but they're still so rare to breed, and knowing there's a good chance it'll just get deleted instead of found by someone is rather disheartening - especially while knowing at the same time that regular re-chased NBWs end up back in the pool at the same odds >>; I've seen like three chased NBWs since re-hitting level 10 a couple weeks ago, and one of those was a re-chased NBW, one was a 3 or 4 mark T1, and the third was an actually decent T2. I know a lot of people that raise and chase some really nice pups, and I wish after all those resources and time invested, more would show up in the chased pool ;;

So I have a few litters I've bred perhaps with the chance that they could be involved in a raise and chase project since I do not have the space for them, Most are tier 1 wolves but some are heterochromic as well.

Support! I explore a lot, and most chased wolves I find are just recycled NBWs. The problem with this is that it leaves no significant difference between regular NBW encounters and chased wolf encounters. You're supposed to get excited when you see the purple star, but then you don't because the wolf in the encounter is just another T1 with 1-2 markings. Because there are so many people who are interested in doing raise & chase, but often end up disappointed because these actually interesting wolves aren't being found, it would be great if chased wolf encounters were made a little more common (I've burned through TONS of guarana in a row and only got 2 chased wolf encounters the whole time) and there was some sort of filtration system put in place. I think that this would really make the chased mechanic a lot more useful and exciting.

Supported! People are already buying potato wolves to chase and get them out of the market but that doesn’t quite work when they could eventually make their way back into the market
