Development Update #6.1

Posted 2021-02-11 11:31:19

@wedsteak Fantastic breakdown, thank you! I'd like to think I fall solidly into the "average player" category on the site. I play between working, but I still actively play every day. My best wolves are not even 500 total stats but pretty solidly in the 400s.

I think my big question is WHY does hunting have to be more difficult? Why does it have to be hard for an average player to feed their wolves when a major mechanic of the site is that they literally die if you don't? That shouldn't be something  proving  too difficult for people, if I'm being honest. That should be a basic resource.

It feels like the difficulty has been scaled to really diligent players who have more time than average to burn on breeding projects and levelling, and to be honest there are some days I can only be on long enough to feed and play with my wolves. It feels like it's just punishing people like me, when its already relatively difficult to even make sc on the site, let alone have to spend it on feeding their wolves.

I don't know, I like the site a lot but a lot if my friends have left or barely play because of these things. I think if about ten friends who joined with me only two play occasionally still, and all of them cited these things as why. That worries me....

Honestly I'm probably having better hunting success since the change.  But then again I'm relatively new and don't have a large pack.

i have a pup whose father is a confirmed carrier by previous standards (has produced albino offspring) but i noticed the father hasn’t been confirmed via gene yet. is it still ok to advertise the pup as a potential carrier?

I second Barghest. I have been on and off for the last three hours and havent caught a single prey yet. Ive been pushing the limits of my hunters which are 100% syngery and over 400+ stats by taking SMALL hunts. I used to be able to catch just enough a day to feed my 17 member pack. Now I can barely catch enough critters to sell to the raccoon to get enough sc to buy food for my pack. Its very frustrating.

Thanks for the input all! I have a feeling that perhaps the easy biomes got easier while the hard biomes got harder? Which is fine if that was done for balance purposes, but we would all benefit from knowing that more clearly when the change is rolled out.

I realize I am in the rainforest which is an "endgame" biome when we as a playerbase clearly don't have "endgame" stats of 500 each as suggested by the spreadsheet, so I don't expect it to be easy. But I am already setting timers to make sure I get all 30 hunts or as close to as I can per day, and I think that's a bit extreme and not something most people can do. I guess the main sticking point is the spreadsheet, which is the only concrete piece of official information we have, suggests hunting should be easier but lots of player's experiences don't match that.

@websteak You're in rainforest which is, like you said, an endgame for players. I, on the opposite, just yesterday was in coniferous forest, so MEDIUM biome.

And my 100% proficiency and 100% synergy team with 550+ stats total (more than 150 stats in role-important stats for each wolf, 200+ for finisher in strenght) had 39% chances on large trails... which before were backbone to feed my pack. I moved to a starter biome ASAP which is shame imo that I had to :/ So it wasn't just nerfed, it was nuked in my opinion.

Farkitsu you only need 50ish uses of food per day for your pack. You can get that off smalls if you need to - at 8 uses per, 7 small carcasses would feed your pack. 39% on large trails would have been totally fine for you unless you're only doing a couple hunts a day.

I already knew the playerbase didn't have the stats needed to reliably hunt the last areas, but it's pretty sad to see how far off we are. The highest stat pups currently in the game are just above 600. Those pups are only guaranteed to be about 1020 stats total... At level 20. We've also reached the point where it's more difficult to have higher stat pups - getting the 800+ stat pups needed to make a dent in endgame areas likely won't happen for six months or more. That's disheartening.

@finnfinite 39% is still just a raw percentage and the end result depends on RNG. So each hunt I have 39% chances that it will suceed and more than a half that it will not. It's not "for all your daily hunts 39% of them will be succesfull" if you know what I mean x__x I can do a couple of hunts and still get nothing :/ I usually hunt to the fullest and it was enough to safely feed my pack. Yesterday I also chased few of my wolves, so the pack is smaller than it used to be. And there's also a matter of exp gain – I can hunt small/critter trails, sure, but I want that sweet, sweet exp gain (and most of the players want it too I guess)

I think the hunting is still somrwhat luck based moreso than nuking the system. Currently my teams have 38% Large trails, around 300-400+ stats like farkitsu, and so far theyve brought back 4/5 large trail hunts (I didnt pay attention to their personalities tbh so thats up for debate still). Itll probably have more data dug up in grouse house guides and the like, but for now seeing my good catches so far compared to people saying here theyre not having much luck seems like it's not just against the player, just still going down to luck.

Also I do agree that its gunna take a while to get those good stats... I guess we'll just have to keep breeding and waiting then
