I am not the best with words, but...

I think something on the lines of an herbalist apprentice might be really nice to have? Seeing my own herbalist is almost 6, I am dreading the sb costs of having to have to start at 0 again. Plus, I really don't want to try and find a random herbalist from someone else. And it would be fun lore-wise.

So I was thinking that if we can add an apprentice, it would curb that dread a little bit. 

     -Only one apprentice at a time!
So people won't mass make 100% herbalists to sell. Would still have role cooldowns if changed.

     -Current herbalist must be at least 50%(?) proficient to take an apprentice!
Would seem odd to let a low percent herbalist take an apprentice when they themselves are 'new' at the job. I don't know if or how this would work coding-wise? But if it does awesome! 

     -Apprentices won't really do much of anything other than gain exp along with your main herbalist.
Thinking the apprentice would gain maybe 25%(or lower) of the exp the main would get while doing tasks/only when foraging? Keeping it low so people won't mass make 100% herbalists to sell.

     -The apprentice will have to research medicine on their own once they become the main herbalist.
I do not know if that knowledge transfers when a wolf goes to a new pack?

I think this is a great idea! It’d be very useful to have an apprentice ready for when your Herbalist dies off, since it’ll be pretty hard to start back at 0% proficiency with a wolf that has had no previous experience with Herbalism. This idea is amazing, in my opinion!

Yes!! It'll be very annoying to start ALL OVER when the herbalist dies! A wolf with SOME knowledge would be very beneficial!

Perhaps this type of thing could be utilized with other roles as well? 

Just an example:

SCOUTS:

A Adult scout with at least 50% prof can “choose” an adol from your pack to take with them when they scout. The scouting time could probably take longer, or less XP is gained by the adult.

The adol has an energy bar, and I don’t see why you can’t use them for anything.

I agree, I've been putting off replacing my herbalist lately because I don't want to have to do with an inexperienced one. She does the job but I would like to replace my herbalist with a better-looking one.

Oh, I love this idea! My herbalist is still young, but it would be amazing to get to be prepared for when he dies!
