pronoun changes?

Posted 2021-05-22 14:42:07 (edited)

Hi Sillysyco! No one is proposing a change to the studding system here! Players could still very easily find studs the same way they always do-- by searching with the "for stud" filter.

There's no way for players so accidentally breed with a wolf-- if there's no little "stud" symbol or "breed to this breeding male" option, players will be unable to stud to a wolf, whatever pronouns are used to describe it!

So I'm not sure I really see your concern, sorry! And besides, the site already uses they and it (which are also pronouns!) to refer to wolves sometimes. If you think the pronouns should stay as strictly he or she, you should take it up with the devs!

They would still show up in the stud search, have the stud symbol next to their names on the den profile, etc., so how would this confuse other players? This is an aesthetic seen pretty much only by the owner of the wolf.

yes hi hello- coming in to give my two cents uwu

it may just be me, but i have NEVER heard or seen people complaining about she/her studs? ive not heard someone complain about being confused if a stud is a stud if they have she/her. pretty sure studs have those little markings on their footnotes to let players know :D so i guess im just a little confused on why youre saying its already confusing for people to find studs if they use she/her when ive literally never seen a single person complain about it

Let me clarify a bit, I don't think some people understood what I was saying.

I am not saying pronouns are fixed to gender, I don't really care either way.

Second, I just don't see what good it would do, and the lore reason also doesn't make sense unless you include a story about finding a sex changer.
That'd be really interesting in a wolf's bio, actually!

And third, I didn't claim anyone was trying to change the stud system. I'm just saying upon first glance at the wolf itself, the name and the image, that could lead to disappointment, and that's never fun.

Again, I'm not talking about looking for a stud via search. I'm saying if you look at a person's lead wolf because of it's appearance and name your first instinct likely wouldn't be to make sure the stud icon is there. You'd think, "awesome colors, male name, cool". That's just the way our brains work.

This sure became a whole ordeal, my goodness. Lol I was just putting in my two cents.

I'm sorry I'm. Still not clear on what you're trying to say ^^; There are wolves up for stud with female names, because to that person, their wolf is trans and/or simply use she/her pronouns. It may be a risk if you're just glancing at a person's profile AND the wolf happens to be their lead but those are two very specific circumstances (I, for one, have my stud set as a scout!) but I'm not sure if those very specific circumstances should stop the devs from implementing it.

Like you said, they'll also still display as male. So even if they have a generally feminine name they will still show as male. This is literally just to have the option to change flavor text seen only by the owner of the wolf.

It would do good by giving people the freedom to customize the pronouns used in flavor texts for the wolves. It's literally just a creative addition, the same way that names and bios are, and once again, you'd never see the pronouns yourself.
Also, plenty of people don't see the stud icon on male leads anyway bc they're not always studs? Like the gender of that wolf doesn't affect them going to stud, it's whether or not the wolf is set to be studdable

I'm just saying I disagree/don't support. I'm not looking for anyone to jump up to agree with me. Lol I just wanted to put in my opinion. It's totally fine if no one else agrees/understands what I was trying to say. Just saying my opinion on it.

Also, @Goose, isn't that what the footnote is for? That is flavor text. Why not put the pronouns there? Genuine question, not a rhetorical jab or anything. It's there to describe a little something is all, which pronouns fall into as well.

(how do you tag someone? That's gonna irk me Lol)

not everyone uses the footnote for their wolves in lore reasons. like with my wolves, i have their genetics in their footnotes and pronouns wouldnt fit alongside them. also im pretty sure its been stated twenty times already but you are literally not gonna see the wolf's pronouns if theyre not YOUR wolf so unless you choose to use this idea if it gets added to the game, its literally not gonna effect you

This is really more to have the option to have the flavor texts (say, for herbalists!) have the correct pronouns. Ie, when your herbalist comes back it says "He/She places the bundle of herbs at your paws." We just want to have the ability to change that He/She into She/He for lore-trans wolves. Or They! Its something only *you* see.

True, and plenty of people do that, but this is more so in reference to the game itself misgendering a wolf. We want an option so that, for example, when a born female he/him wolf is going to give birth, it will correct itself to say "He will give birth in 3 rollovers!" Plus, people might use up the character limit with other information, as it is limited after all.
Myself included, it can be disheartening to players to have trans/genderqueer wolves with pronouns not associated with their birth gender being misgendered by a game (albeit out of an innocent oversight in coding, no call out here!) and plenty of us would just like to see a small tweak to allow us to customize our personal gaming experiences.
