Lower GC increase on immortal wolf slots

Lower GC increase on immortal wolf slots
Posted 2020-11-27 12:26:05 (edited)

i was very excited to see how this feature works in the game, and i am still very grateful for it, since i have so many wolves that i put a ton of effort and money into! however, now that i've gotten to a point in the game where i'm really considering what wolves i'd want to immortalize, i started to buy the immortal slots in preparation.... and was not aware that the price increase per slot would go up 10gc for every additional slot! : (

2 immortal slots is 20gc... 3 immortal slots is 30gc... etc., and you still need to purchase the 10gc jellyfish item from the shop to use on any wolves you want to place in those slots.

this would mean that to house a 3rd immortal wolf, you'd need to spend $10 worth of gc - and it only gets more expensive from that point on. these are wolves that you've most likely already spent plenty of cash on, which is why you don't want them to die in the first place.

i'm not sure i understand the point in such exorbitant increases in the immortal slot purchases. ideally it feels that each slot could cost 1 or 2 gc more than the last, but a 10gc increase on every new slot purchase feels overwhelming. immortal wolves add nothing to your gameplay aside from being fun characters that you don't have to worry about losing to the whims of rng and autoaging - they contribute nothing to your pack or breeding projects. as someone who really enjoys the sentimentality of being able to keep the wolves that i work on and love around, this harsh price wall starts to feel punishing, especially since there's already so many gc items that i know i'll always actively want to purchase outside of these slots.

if others find this reasonable, i'm of course open to hearing thoughts, i just wanted to put this out there for discussion / suggestion in general!

That does seem really excessive, I'd like to immortalize at least a couple and the price tag is off-putting :c

I have no preference either way, but I'm just wondering - why is it so important to use an Immortal slot to keep a wolf when the Dynasty lets you keep them for cheaper? I've always seen the Immortal slots as a sort of den mascot that you keep to feature and show off, while the Dynasty is for sentimental wolves, which is what it sounds like you're intending to use Immortal slots for.

@before its really the 'living vs dying' aspect, id much prefer to have my favorite wolves remain pliable and part of my pack even if they aren't 'useable' anymore, i heavily prefer that for wolf lore and enjoyment over having them die and put off to the side tab that ill never look at.

This. I find the increase for immortal slots to be absurd.

Oh wow, the increase is very steep.

I was going to immortalize every types of mutations I get but that's going to be expansive XD

I think it would be more reasonable if it increased by like 1-3gc.

Oh god, I wasn't aware the price increase is this steep! I've looked up regular slot prices beforehand, and even when they start costing GC, there are multiple slots you can purchase for the same GC price. And when they DO increase, it's only by 1GC at a time. Honestly, I assumed Immortal Slots work in a similar manner, but step up 1-5GC with each slot every time.

Yes, I 100% would like the price increase to be lowered, but in that case people who have already purchased multiple slots would need a refund.

Also, regarding
Before's comment, I feel like you can turn the same point the opposite way: why should I pay 10GC (and then 20, 30, 40, and so on) for a wolf that has the same functionality, as a cheaper dynasty wolf. I'm pretty much just paying for it to show up in a slightly easier to access tab, for the icon near its name, and for a chance to transfer that wolf one day. And 10GC seems like an absolutely reasonable starting price for that. However, I also have to buy a Jellyfish for each wolf I want to immortalize, as well as a huge GC fee for the slot itself that will snowball into rather absurd amounts very quickly.

Anyways! My point being: an immortal wolf is not any more of a strain on a server than a "dynastied" wolf, so there is no good reason to make the price difference between the two so steep, as well as making obtaining multiple immortal wolves so punishing. Immortallized wolves do not give a player much gameplay benefit except for the chance to trade that wolf later.

Also, as
Queijac have mentioned, most immortalized wolves are already "spoiled" in terms of currency spent on them. Letting players get more Immortals more easily will encourage players to spend more GC to shuffle them, apply bases & markings, and buy rare decors exactly because the players are sure all this money will not go to waste, since the wolf is permanent.

@hydde thank you for this contribution, these are a lot of good points!! i think the note about immortal wolves feeling like a safety net for any major customization you make to a wolf is especially important - at the current rate of immortal slot price increases, it feels like theres very little wiggle room for such projects. i feel a lot less motivation to continue with them knowing that in a year or so, i'll probably have to spend $20+ per wolf just to keep them in my den (and this would be on top of all the cost of customizing already) : (

I think lowering the gc increase sounds totally reasonable.  I’d also like to use this feature to save a collection of my favourite wolves for sentimental reasons but can see myself hitting a wall with the price increase, and instead being more selective with which wolf gets that slot.

The cost increase makes me wonder if the feature was only intended to save the occasional extra rare wolves, like mutations, but I think we can expand the vision here.  I’m sure many others would like to keep multiple immortal wolves as characters or trophies to continue to pamper them in the future.

Btw here’s some perspective on the cost, continuing with a 10gc increase per slot:

The 20th slot plus a jelly will cost 210gc.  The combined total of 20 slots plus 20 jellies would be 2300gc (475usd not accounting for sales)

Fran, quick correction, Jellies are 10GC, not 100 :'> I agree that that's still pricy, but not as much as you've mentioned.
