Gay Wolf Pairs

@Lily sorry I didn't catch that bit in your comment somehow... but I agree that there would need to be some insensitive or it would be a feature that's never used

@Starlight the game isn't that heavily based on realism especially  with the breeding system either with the 'breeding male' or a bonded pair system

@Lily Yup. As you said dogs, mainly hump for dominance. They also hump humans and objects, so I do not think this is related to sexuality. And I do believe that penguins find a partner, of the same-sex because of a lack of females or loneliness as it seems like the supposedly bonded pair is eventually found with a partner of the opposite sex.

(This isn't to attack anyone. Sorry, if you feel offended.)

@Laika Yes, I never said anything about realism. It's not a relevant feature to implement when you can just stop your females from breeding and write lore. Your pair can adopt the pup once they're weaned.

If a breeding pair system is implemented, gay pairs should absolutely be a possibility! It's already possible to feature a wolf of the same sex as mate of your lead so I see no reason why this would be controversial. Whoever doesn't want gay pairs in their pack could just not use this feature.

I personally wouldn't mind it being just aestethic to complement a user's rp but the adoption is a really fun idea! It'd be nice if chased pups and adols could be used for this feature as I believe they don't go into the chased wolf pool currently.

From Wiki:

"No species has been found in which homosexual behaviour has not been shown to exist, with the exception of species that never have sex at all, such as sea urchins and aphis."

So yeah, the point of "they just do it for dominance" and "it's just lonelyness and lack of other-sex partners" doesn't really stand.

And if this is natural (which it is), it's just as relevant to the game as hunting and breeding.

By the way, this game is semi-realistic at best. If you don't want gay pairs, make sure to also remove all the alpha/beta/omega titles, herbalists, snakes that give quests and predict fertility/number of pups and etc.

In short, support for gay pairs, I'd love that!

would be kind of pointless. you couldn't breed them, which would already discourage most players from using this feature, and adoption would be way too tricky and complicated. no support, just roleplay it or write in your lore

"I don't believe wolves can be gay"

I don't see the point of this mechanic. This seems like something that should be solely up to rp. Nothing is stopping you from having an all of one gender or another pack and make them fabulous without a game supported mechanic.

Heck if you decide to have a bunch of cute gay bois, they're even cheaper than the ladies at this point.

Edit: [ Just leaving this link to an adorable T-shirt that is relevant to other comments ]

You're worried about realism in a game where the wolves can be green and create medicine? Ok

Cute idea but what's the difference between this and just making one or both members of the pair a pupsitter? We already have a system for non-mother wolves "raising" another's pup. Unless someone comes up with something more mechanically unique, I feel like you could effectively achieve this just by making the two wolves pupsitters, giving them your runts, and making a note in the bio.

I would assume the idea behind this is to have something akin to same sex marriage representation since people would be RPing coupled pairings similarly to "lifemates" anyway. I don't see the harm in it- it's contingent on coding in possible mated pairs anyway and if the devs are going to go through that effort, might as well go all the way. Go big or go home kind of?
