If mated pairs are implemented, then there should be a same-sex alternative. Personally I prefer the option to find abandoned pups via explore event, since adopting existing pups can just be RPed. I’m not a huge fan of the mated pairs mechanic though, since it feels limiting.

^{also if you want to get technical and talk about realism, animals don’t have a concept of gender or sexuality so yeah, human labels like gay and straight don’t apply, but same-sex mating behavior and coupling is super common and found across a large range of species - I mean nearly a third of Laysan albatross pairs are female/female, and don’t even get me started on whiptail lizards or clownfish}

^{same sex pairs just feels like a weird thing to get hung up on when it’s waaaay more realistic than a lot of other stuff in the game, including the bizarre harem-style breeding system we have now}
