Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-03 10:18:41

I have a suggestion.....maybe this benefit could be seasonal?

In the wild male wolves will try to start new packs with female loners or even females from packs, it could be sorta like that? Maybe a week long/ month long event? Obviously in the wild a male messing with another wolf's female is asking to get killed or injured so that could be the drawback, so other males in the pack may mate with females in the same pack but risk an automatic injury/death /chase from the male wolf. A   50/50 chance would allow the possibility of new blood pups but prevent a ruined market

Any tweaks/ disagreement?

I support the Idea of having two or three males as breeding males. Usually, if I have any male pups I chase them away because they don't sell well. I agree with the Breeding limitations since it will help with keeping breeding under control

I sort of like the grove purchasing idea! Maybe it could increase with territory slots? Like every 25 territory you get a new internal breeding male slot that you would have to purchase? IDK How it would work lmao

I disagree, Mass breeding is already a problem and we don't need more of it. We don't need something to add more to the problem.

Huge support! i don't really see why it would be bad to make it so you can have a breeding male function as he always does and have the non-stud males in your pack function like females in that they would have breeding cool downs and they could only breed with females in your pack. i mean it would basically make it so that a male is no different from a female unless you make it the stud male, and it wouldn't hurt the stud market because your males wouldn't be able to sell their studs, only breed to your girls, y'know? i really love the game so far, a HELL of a lot more than lioden, i just wish it was less like lioden in this aspect too. i've actually stopped playing lioden because the game mechanics and environment grew too stressful haha.

note; having males breed with the same cool-down time (or maybe half-cooldown, for more realism) as females would hardly hurt the stud market because even if someone has a super valuable male who for some reason, they didn't make their breeding male, they would need to price a traditional studding as high as a female's heat would cost, which would be WAY more than that males stud price would normally be, since he would only have so many breedings in his lifetime. ALSO, most people who make money off of studdings also make money selling their pups, so its in pretty much everyone's financial interest to increase the male pups' values.

my personal reasons for supporting this change, though, are pretty much just out of my interest in writing lore and how i prefer to play the game. i like the idea of every male in my pack having the ability to choose a mate (or sleep around throughout his life haha) to match the personality i have in mind for him! even when im not writing lore, i have ideas in my head for my wolves' characters and relationships at all times, and i honestly think this change would make the game more enriching and enjoyable.

@Derpy but isn’t that exactly how it is on lioden? A higher chance for female cubs. I’ve seen people complain that the breeding mechanic (only one breeding male) is a mechanic that worked in lioden and shouldn’t be here.

Plus, male wolves would be just as undesireable, and since there’d be more female wolves there would be even more pups since only the female wolves can breed.

support. the genetic diversity is the big one for me, ive barely even gotten started with breeding and was already finding myself going "alright, so who exactly do i breed in the future now, everyones gonna be related..."

i get that balance might be a concern, but like other people have said, females are already limited to breeding anyway. all we seem to be doing by only having one breeding male per pack is just... making everyone have the same father/s. and yeah, desirable stats/markings (or a disinterest in having multiple males for lore reasons) will always draw people to go find studs regardless!

I feel like this is a really important explanation because people are thinking it will increase mass breeding.

The limiting factor in any population is the number of females. Males affect very little.

Current effective way to play: 1 male and 50 females= 50 litters. Sex change all the males and repeat.

Future effective way to play: 25 males and 25 females= 25 litters. Sex change some males and females to make good pairs, and repeat.

You end up with less litters and less puppies if your entire population can breed folks.

HARD agree on this one. I have so many male wolves that I adore with all my heart and I'm heartbroken that they'll eventually die without passing on their markings and base. Please make it so at least the male wolves can breed with female wolves in your own pack.

I agree! Males that aren't the pack stud should have a breeding cooldown and only be able to be bred to pack members

Or at least there should be male-only pack options so males aren't useless.
