Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-03 10:11:19

I support the idea of having more male wolves that we can breed to our females within the pack. Just like lioden, it is very common for people to prefer females and many players find themselves with pretty male wolves that they can't use in the same ways, at least breeding wise. Not everyone has the currency to sex change males either and hence I think that it would be amazing if we could use more males for breeding in some kind of way, whether it's seasonal or something else. Loads of people play for the genetics and breeding projects after all, so would be cool! :D

Double posted, sorry about that xD

OK, I've seen a few comments and I agree with the notion of either

a) very limited breeding for each non-official breeding males

Or (and I prefer the following)

b) an assigned mate within the pack to stop any potential traditional breeding to override the pack only side of things

@Rey, allowing pack males to breed would definitely open up players to traditional breeding, which is a risky, unsupported transaction that I doubt the mods could help with if someone were scammed. However, people already perform traditional breedings for their studs when they run out of slots, and others “loan out” high proficiency scouts/hunters to others. While allowing all males to breed would increase this risky behavior, it already exists on Wolvden.

Placing limits on pack male breeding would lower the desire and ability for “studding” them, some of which have already been suggested.

I also think that maybe if this got implemented, wolves that entered your pack cannot be bred for at least a rollover, despite if they are in heat or not. Traditional breeding is a potentially dangerous activity, and something like that might deter it? IDK I think a rush of trad breeding scammings might be the biggest risk if something like this was implemented. I support, but only if it's fully thought out by the devs (Which, I trust our devs!)

As much as I like the basic idea for it...I am against it. One that is 20 thousand more pups and more confusing family trees to make sense of. But I think outside studding would stop because it would be cheaper to just breed inside your pack.

Instead of allowing all males to breed i think that it would be wiser to just change the male:female ratio to favour females to be honest would cause much less issues and help deal the unwanted males problem and would not take the amount of effort to design a whole new system to ensure things dont break

Hmmm. I understand the reason behind only having a limited number of breedable males, but I also do indeed find males useless. Many NBW I have found that have been gorgeous are turned away instantly by me because of being male.

Maybe we could buy a grove slot to unlock a secondary breeding male permanently and maybe we can only have two? That i feel would give people more of a want for males while also keeping up with the race for finding other pack studs. Or perhaps the males can naturally have some other interesting advantage like less energy drain for tasks or some sort of natural stat that ends up being higher. This way i find a need for recruiting males.

Right now, males may be able to do tasks, but I'd rather just have only females for breeding while also doing those hunting and scouting tasks. So males I turn down every single time, and I think I'd only EVER try to buy a sex change if the pup was super super super good. Never on a NBW.

Support! would love to see this in play for lore reasons even if there were limitations. I like some of these suggestions like only in Spring or @Fenrir's RNG system - that would be fun

i disagree. massbreeding is already becoming a wee bit of a problem, i don't really think we need one more thing to add to it.

besides, i dont think males are useless as people have said here. i keep quite a few males in my pack because they dont have the penalties of pregnancy/nesting that female wolves will have, which is much more convenient for me
