THE PAST
It was dark. She couldn't see a thing.
Ashe
The Voice whispered.
She saw the light and lunged for it.
The world shattered as she came to her senses. Her fur, bloodied and matted. Her eyes, empty and distant. Her thoughts, muddled. Her emotions, dull. Her mind tried pushing away the memories when she heard it. The raging scream of Tel.
She'd barely recognized him when the world had gone red. Blood had covered the den, covered everything. Her blood. Ashe had stumbled back a bit in shock. Why would he do something like this? Her brain had scraped and stumbled for an explanation. Next thing she knew he was gone, and screams of pain, shock, anger and fear had started coming from the clearing.
She shook herself out of the memory trance when she caught Tel's scent nearby. She held her breath and hid in the bushes, silently hoping the blood on his nose would mask her scent.
After waiting for hours, just to be sure he was gone, Ashe crept out from the bushes, dry blood making her legs stiff, and walked toward the clearing. As soon as she stepped out of the woods she knew something was wrong. Tel's sent was gone, not faded but gone, disappeared. She whirled around, but to late, someone crashed into her side.
She struggled a bit, snapping and thrashing. When she was suddenly let free. She turned to see her attacker and stopped short as she saw it was Orem. Her mate. She moved away quickly, just in case, and waited. Both seemed to be waiting for the other to strike. Finally she relaxed and asked the important question. 'What happened?' Orem hesitated, then spoke; 'no one knows, I thought I was the only survivor but...' he trailed off, letting the words sink in. Only survivor. 'And Rode? Your sister?' Ashe asks, apprehension in her voice. Orem's voice cracked as he said "Dead... she had claw marks on her muzzle and flank... I- I couldn't save her." He looked away. I tried to say something but my voice caught, as realization hit. My whole family was dead.
