Aurora never denied it. She lived a mostly normal life, despite the fact that her beautiful fur glowed blue- glowed at all. But Aurora eventually got fed up and tired of being the weird wolf. She ran away. She left her pack behind, her family and friends and life behind. Aurora ran and ran in the light of the glowing moon, until she realized that she was lost. Completely lost. Aurora started to panic. Then she heard a voice. Wisp looked the strange new wolf in the eye and spoke. "Hi! I'm Wisp, because my fur's wispy!" He smiles, although Aurora didn't seem to find his joke funny. Wisp frowned. "Oh, so you do have a different sense of humor. Or maybe I'm just not funny. I live alone, y'know, I've never met a wolf that I can tell my jokes to. What's your name?" Aurora seemed to have difficulty speaking. "Um... Aurora." Wisp smiled. "That's so pretty! Hey, you look kinda like me- weird and different! And all sparkly-warkly! Your fur glitters like mine does!" Aurora felt a begrudging smile slide onto her face. The two padded off together, not looking so different anymore. Moon woofed softly at her parents. Aurora and Wisp seemed distracted with something, although she didn't know what. Woof. Woof! WOOF! Finally, Aurora turned around. So did Wisp, who padded over to the pup and started licking her tendrils. Moon jerked away. "What occupied you? Is it the new litter? My siblings?! Are you gonna forget about me once they're born? Like your pack forgot about you?" Aurora nipped at her pup's tendrils. "Don't talk about them. But yes. It's about the litter. Wisp has some herbalism know-how and he thinks that something's wrong. I'll be fine of course, but... the pups.... or I guess I should say pup..." Moon blinked, confused. Wisp ruffled her glowing fur. "Don't worry about it, darling. You'll- well, you'll see for yourself, in just a couple days..." Nightfall and Luna attempted to run over towards their sibling Moon, but their mother, Aurora, scooped them up. "My babies! You mustn't do things like that, you might stunt your growth! Or, you might hurt yourselves! Double-pups like you shouldn't attempt to run, you could get seriously hurt!! Be more careful, I couldn't bear it if anything happened to you." Wisp padded over. "Aurora... they don't have a lot of time. Let them live a little." Nightfall's eyes widened and his head snapped up. "What do you mean by, we don't have a lot of time?!" Luna barked softly. "He means we're gonna die," she said pointedly. "Did you really think we were going to live that long? No! We're one instead of two and there's bound to be some issues!" Aurora burst into glowing tears and started fussing over the two again. Moon looked sadly into the distance. Silversong noticed a small pup sitting off to the side of a small family. She couldn't see very well, but it looked like two other pups, a mother, and a father. She wondered why the pup was on her own and not with the other wolves. They were close together and similar-looking, so Silversong assumed that the pup was related to the small group. She padded over. "Hi there, little one. My name is Silversong. You look lost. Are those your family members?" To her credit, the pup didn't jump. "Yeah..." she mumbled softly. "I'm Moon. Who are you? I know you said your name is Silversong, but, like, who are you? Why ate you out here all alone?" Silversong thought about the question and chuckled. "I could ask you the same thing, my dear one. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to answer. I am a wolf of the Dreamlands, a mystical lunar-wolf. It seems you and your family are too, whether you know it or not. I'm out here alone searching for wolves to help, as I do every night.ย I am a healer of the moon. I utilize its power to heal wolves." Moon looked interested. "Can you fix anything?!" Silversong laughed softly, gently. It was a melodic yet dark sound. "Not everything everything, but most things. I can heal wounds, mend broken bones, and lots of other things. Pretty much the only thing I can't do is reverse death." Moon pricked her ears. "Can you remove mutations?" Silversong sighed. "I don't like to, but yes. It just feels so... wrong... to do so, like I'm removing a wolf's individuality. Why do you ask, Moon? You don't seem to have a mutation. Does one of your parents? A friend?" She looked at her. "Well, yes, my siblings, Nightfall and Luna. Well, I guess they're technically my sibling. It was supposed to be two pups, you see, but something went wrong and now they're conjoined!" Silversong gasped. "Conjoined twins! I see why you asked now, that's quite lethal... If nothing happens to reverse it... well...." She lowered her voice. "They'll die." Moon looked close to tears. "So will you remove the mutation, then? Can you help them?!" She frowned. "Doing that to conjoined twins ultimately ends in death, for one of them. You see... If I remove that mutation, then suddenly, one of the two will disappear and be gone forever. But... no, that wouldn't work." "What wouldn't work?!" "Nothing you should trouble yourself with, my dear." "What is it?!" Silversong sighed again. "I might be able to cast a spell that protects them, one that stops them from dying until they reach old age. But it's iffy..." "Ask my parents! They might want you to! Pleaaaaase?" Silversong padded over to the two and said something that Moon couldn't comprehend. Then she muttered some magical-sounding words. With a flash of light, the twins started glowing. Then the glowing stopped. "It is done." |
