Fire had rained from the sky for years.

It seemed that no end was in sight. Devastating nuclear war shook the world to its core, leaving many of the continents uninhabitable for constant generations. It was a story all pups had been told by their ancestors, the days when the world turned its back on itself. Lands that had once been fertile and green were reduced to nothing but abandoned buildings and ash. That which had gone untouched by war were ravaged by desperate populations barely scraping by on limited resources. Generations passed, and limited land that wasn't corrupted by nuclear waste has now lost its fertility, making mankind desperate.

Is this the end?

But word had gotten out about distant lands that might be sustainable, recovering from the nuclear war so many years ago. But mankind is selfish, mankind is skeptical. They did not send their own, instead, they sent what had formerly been their best friend: canine kind. If the dogs could survive and repopulate the area, then surely it would be safe enough for man to move back in.

Dogs had been scavenged across the remaining city and towns and packed into crates to be sent to and released on the untouched ruins. From a whole sea away, mankind would wait and pray.

It has been nearly two months since the great release. Dogs fell into chaos as they were stripped from their regular lives to be abandoned on unfamiliar land, but finally, it seems that they've decided to unify. The land is plentiful and is willing to provide, with what seemed like very limited threats to the dogs.

But on the horizon brews a great storm...

Setting

The roleplay takes place in an imaginary world. The dogs are currently located on a different continent, being GPS tracked and observed by humans across the sea to monitor their survival. This new home is referred to as "The Ruins", and consistents of a large stony town that is in ruins, slowly being reclaimed by thriving greenery. To the north is a rough, green mountain that most avoid due to the difficulty of the climb. Not far south is the ocean, while the east and west are covered in thick forests. The weather is typically pleasant but is becoming progressively wet and tempestuous. The season is early-mid spring. The pack sleeps in what they call "The Hall", a large temple that seems to have been used for worship. The village is vast and often scavenged by the members who aren't well-suited for hunting game.

Predators are curiously limited. The only real threat is the occasional bear, but they generally avoid the village. Hawks and owls, however, are a serious concern among smaller dogs when they wander into the forest alone (hence their fear of forest banishment).
Prey is oddly plentiful. Rabbits, squirrels, deer, and birds are quite common and typically carry peculiar mutations. Nonetheless, eating them doesn't seem to have any harmful effects.

The dogs were all born and originated overseas in the massive and grungy city known as "Haven City". Some dogs may have originated in nearby towns or villages, but the conditions were equally deplorable. Food was scarce, and disease was rampant.

Pre-RP History

The dogs have been in the new world for approximately two months. A great dane by the name of "Tulio" was adamant about leading the dogs, but tempers flared and fear kept the dogs scattered for roughly a month. However, living independently was tough, and the ruins needed to be shared for their resources. Through his cunning, he was able to manipulate dogs into joining him but had a strong bias against smaller canines. He united dogs on broken promises, generally treating smaller dogs like dirt and humiliating them for being "inferior". Squabbles broke out frequently, and the pack was generally divided. On his third week into his leadership, Tulio decided to banish the smaller dogs into the forest (mostly to use them as hunting targets) after abusing their size to break into smaller ruins to acquire goods (herbs, bedding, and the alike).

The next morning, however, Tulio was mysteriously poisoned and perished. A previous medic, Vagari, was elected as their leader. She instantly implemented the council to prevent any political abuse and has since been encouraging the involvement of smaller breeds in hunting. This has, however, caused an uproar among some of the larger breeds.

Allegiance

Vagari - Leader - Female - Location: The Hall

A lingering stream of sunlight was beginning to peak through the holes in the temple walls, encouraging the sighthound to rise from her slumber. The air was beginning to feel progressively moist. Upon their arrival some weeks ago, the environment was dry and carried a mild chill. It seemed that spring was upon them, with summer quickly approaching from behind.

Yet, she couldn't ignore that odd sensation that continued to creep up her spine as the dawns continued to grow more humid. It wasn't just the moisture of distant summer that hung in the air, it was a certain...

Ah, who was she to ponder the weather? They'd think her paranoid, considering she already implemented a pair of dogs to mind the climate. Perhaps they were correct to assume such prudence- Vagari had always been the cautious sort. Tulio had already left them in pieces. Now that she'd gotten him out of the way, she just had to put all the fragments back together.

The silky-furred dog rose, stretching out each long leg individually before stepping away from her bedding. The hunters would likely be heading out soon. She needed to ensure that everything was still progressively smoothly, considering the changes she'd made. Not all would be keen on including small dogs among the hunters.

Gyu-ri - Scout - she/her - Location: The Hall

The sun filtering through had finally made its way to her closed eyes, forcing her to shift to not be blinded by the growing bright light. She wanted to stay in her spot as long as possible, tired, but upon opening her eyes she had noticed Vagari had risen from her own bedding.

Gyu-ri could feel a slight breeze catching in her thick fur, like grass flowing ever so naturally. However there was some dew stuck to it, and she could feel the change from the previously dry whether. She stood up, stretching out her stiff limbs and shaking out her sleep. Considerably more fur than usual following her movements, indicating warm whether was soon upon them, and there were still here with no signs of the humans.

She stepped away from her bedding, and padded forward some, before looking back to see if anyone else was stirring, or if she'd be starting her day alone.

Sealgair  - Council - Sire - Just Outside '' The Hall ''

Sealgair was, by blood and training, an early riser. He had woken with the sun to listen for other creatures, and was stationed on a  rise near the entrance of the hall, his shadow looking multiple feet longer than he actually was. It was still a bit low in the sky, but enough to rise a few fellow dogs from their bedding. Vagari, the pretty sighthound who led the bunch, and Gyu-ri, a rather pleasant scout. He had never socialized with them much in the short time there, preferring the shadows to watch and wait.  " You two finally wake up? Gee, ye wuld'  be horrid fowl' hunters. "

The Damask Wolfdog flickered his ear, turning his head back around to look around, a noise he knew well caught his attention. He studied the sky, a yelp of surprise ripping from his mouth quickly. The honk, honk of Canadian geese was music to his ears. He was going to be a hunting dog, the sound of waterfowl something he was so used to, but it was ripped away so quickly.  He let out a small whine as they continued across the sky in a '' V '' shape,  as they dissipated from view he turned his head to no one in particular, " Well, the geese are back. Anyone want honker for breakfast? "  They rasped, lifting their Brobdingnagian frame off from a sit into a stand, taking a single step into the darker hall, and then a few more.

They looked to their bed yards away, cold and empty. It was placed on a ledge, elevated off the ground and tucked behind a few other rises, a nest, of the sorts. It was covered in vines on the outside, making it a bit harder to see, which was assisted by it being in a darker corner. It also contained a few smushed leaves and weeds, but, the male never took time to make it comfy, maybe that would be his task today.

Trigger
He/Him ll Scout ll The Hall

The light of the sun flooding through had caused the dutch shepherd to stir. His eyes fluttered open, stirring to life as he slowly lifted himself from the ground. The only noise he had made was the sound of him shuffling about as he brought himself to his paws, stretching his legs out to ease the stiffness as his jaws parted in a yawn.

His gaze lifted from the ground, seeing that three other dogs had already awakened. He didn't say anything, just taking one or two steps forward before slightly shaking out his fur. The warmth felt nice to him, he much more preferred it over the cold and stood there to bask in the sun for a moment, his tail swaying slowly back and forth. The moisture did however bother him ever so slightly, but he would be fine with it as long as it felt like this.

Alaska | female | Hunter | The Hall

The sunlight and the noises of the other dogs moving woke the black German Shepard up. She yawned and stretched, before she rose from her and blinked a few times in the sunlight, once she was awake she usually was fast on her feet. Before she did anything else, she observed her surroundings and sniffed the air cautiously in search for anything odd, a habit she developed soon after meeting Moon, who teaches her early that only the most careful dogs survive out there on the streets. Even though it didn't save her, Alaska lives still up to that, especially since she didn't really trust most of the other dogs yet.

Everything seemed normal to her, so she stepped from her bedding and proceeded her way outside. She figured most of the dogs who are awake would be there. Outside she spotted Sealgair, Gyu-ri and Vagari, their leader. She hadn't decided yet what to think of her as a leader, though she probably was better than their old leader. Alaska only nodded as a greeting to not interrupt their conversation and sat down just a few steps away from them.

Vagari - Leader - Female - Location: The Hall

She held her breath, quietly pondering her private schedule for the day. She wanted to see the hunters off and ensure that their interactions lacked any turbulence. Furthermore, she wanted to speak with the watchers to get their take on the weather, and not to soothe her own growing paranoia. If this hunt didn't go smoothly, she could risk the entire pack collapsing. Thanks to Tulio, she'd inherited the helm of the group with quite a bit of tension riding on the backs of the littles and bigs. Integrating the smaller dogs into the hunting group was only reasonable. If they had the talent, why prevent them from shining and putting their skills to greater use?

Around her were growing shadows from the forms of dogs rising from their nests. A single silken ear was angled in the direction of a familiar muted chocolate form: one of her councilmen. He spoke of fowl hunters, perhaps hinting at his own background in hunting. Vagari, even after her ascension to leadership, was tightlipped about her upbringing. "Of course," the sighthound hummed gently, her brown eyes soft per usual. "I wasn't bred to hunt birds."

Vagari never had the drive to chase birds, nor did she understand the joy retrievers, pointers, and setters often got from it. They had pencil necks for one- nothing to really grab onto. Furthermore, it felt all too easy. Avian kind did not run like a rabbit or a squirrel. By the time they tried to take off into the air, she could surely catch them.

Nonetheless, as a racer, she wasn't too picky about what she dined upon. Back on the track, they were fed all sorts of deplorable things: roadkill, rotten meat...whatever came cheap, really. It'd taken her some time to finally realize that feeding upon such things wasn't traditional to most dogs. "Please take your pick of hunters. However, do make sure the weather is as decent as it seems before heading out." She didn't build upon her caution and simply left it at that.

The golden sighthound peeled her attention away from Sealgair, seeking out a familiar dog. "...I'll be checking in with our watchers."

She couldn't just go off of "a feeling".

Sealgair  - Council - Sire - Just Outside '' The Hall ''

He breathed in at the sight of the others rising forms, before taking another moment to look at the fair sky. He knew to never trust the sky at just one glance, anyone who did was bound to be wrong. You needed to study it closer, what did the clouds look like? Were they wispy and high in the air? Or hulking figures that seemed to join together as one, and blot out the sun. Were they snow white, hinting at what could be a fair day, or dark grey and smelling of rain, which always meant a storm was coming. The clouds could be high and wispy, but be a melancholy grey, or hulking figures a bright white, which is why scent also mattered. What did the air smell of? Ice? Lightning? Water? He could of been a watcher, and, it was something he had thought about for a few days, but he wanted power, and if he started powerful, he would become even more so.

Turning back to look at the waking bunch, his molded, mud-colored cranium turned to eye a dam, Vagari, their leader. The two seemed quite different in his eyes, she was a fan of democracy, it seemed, while he favored tyranny and dictatorship. He was intense. Sealgair was definitely a more aggressive being who wasn't a big fan of the smaller dogs, (But by no means totally evil), while she was softer, it seemed. They also looked different, he, a dark, muted brown with a few wolf-like markings and scarred limbs, while at first glance she was curly-furred and creamy. Sealgair was loyal to her, nonetheless. He disagreed, but it seemed the Sighthound knew what she was doing, so he wasn't one to interfere, for now.
" I wonda' why " He said, then continuing after a second, " Do you have, let's see.. A double-Coat? Webbed toes? Enjoy water much? Cold resistant? " He fired questions at her, genuinely curious. He never actually looked at a dog's paws to see, or purposely went digging in their fur to see how thick it was. " I didn't know I was the one who assembled hunting teams. " He chuckled, then turning to the bunch, trotting into the space to see who would go. They didn't have many hunters, just two he was aware of, so he studied once more, Who were the leaner, hunt-ready dogs he could take, after a minute, he spoke again. "Would da' followin' mutts fancy a hunt? "

"  Rhett,

Trigger,

Alaska,

Keiko?
"

( YOU CAN DECLINE IN ROLEPLAY OR IN THE OOC <3 )

" Weather seems okay to me. If theres a bit of a drizzle tha's okay, It hides us, but will also hide prey a bit more. " He woofed out and turned to the bunch he had asked.

Gyu-ri - Scout - she/her - Location: The Hall

More and more dogs were waking up, welcoming the growing day. However, she turned her attention back to Vagari and Sealgair, as they discussed hunting planned. She could feel her mouth water slightly at the mention of food, regardless of what kind of prey it was. Gyu-ri had quickly learned that wild dogs ate prey, and she had to adapt if she wanted to live among them. No more sweet sound of the can opening in the morning, or eating scraps that her humans would feed her when one thought the other wasn't looking.

She shook out of her thoughts, hearing the call of names. The pack would have to wait a bit longer before they are, and Gyu-ri never knew how long that would be. Sometimes a quick journey, sometimes hours. She, however, waited patiently for Sealgair to finish organizing the possible hunt. Both he and Vegari were eyeing the sky, and if a storm was upon them, there'd be no chance a hunting team of many dogs would be sent out, let alone a scout. If the watchers gave them an all clear, she'd take whatever task Varagi had for her.
