"Sorry," Aloe mumbled, lowering his head. "I understand." He backed into the bushes and crouched, waiting. His heart thundered in his chest. I have to catch this. I cannot fail. Not the third time. Whatever gods are up there, please, I need to catch this. He squinted in the bright light. The sun was starting to shine through the heavy rain clouds, which were quickly dispersing, and the rays of sunlight were reflecting off the puddles, making it look as though the ground was made of gold. A rainbow glimmered in the sky, but Aloe was too focused on the movements of the prey ahead to pay attention to it. He focused his breathing, his eyes trained on the red wolf as she headed towards the elk herd. (( do you think he should catch it or miss? I feel like he'd actually die if he didn't catch it… XD ooh, maybe he can catch it and Cardinal will take the credit for the catch… idk, your choice for what Cardinal does tho! :D )) |

Blossom Pack| Cardinal| Blossom Pack Territory Cardinal glanced at Aloe then crouched down and snuck behind a cow elk which spotted the wolf and kicked on its shoulder "Not there...." She cried in pain. The elk quickly shouted for help, a bull elk came running towards the wolf "Help!" Cardinal called for help. |

Aloe started forward, but then backed up again. He stared, time seeming to slow down as his heart sped up. His mind began to race with every possibility. On one paw, if he tried to help, he might die. But on the other paw, if she died, Aloe would be in huge trouble. They would probably kill him. But on the third paw, what if he tried to help and Cardinal took advantage of it? What if she left him to die? It seemed like something she'd do. But if he didn't help and she survived, Aloe might be in the worst trouble possible. He stepped forward again, but his mind began screaming at him. You could die! You could die! Don't go, don't risk it, it's not worth it! He clutched his head. His only fear; death, loomed over him menacingly, it's dark and deadly claws ready to strike. I don't want to die! I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I don't want to die. Aloe let out a scream of terror as he found himself doing something he'd never ever imagined he'd do. He rushed towards the elk bull, slamming hard into its chest. But he was too small to do any damage— the bull only stumbled for a moment before roaring with fury, turning to him and lowering its huge rack. Aloe cried out, his eyes closing tightly as he felt something slam hard against his tiny frail body. The sharp antlers cut into his side, gouging deep wounds into the young wolf's skin. For one moment, he was flying through the air, free as a bird. And then, he began to fall. I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, his thoughts screamed together with him as he slammed into a tree. A loud crack echoed through his body, seeming to come straight from his skull. The huge bull turned away, assuming him dead, then scanned the area, looking for the other wolf, the one that had tried to kill its mate. |

Cardinal felt relieved as the wolf attacked the elk. She saw the elk smashed into the skinny wolf. Is he dead? She looked at the wolf with watery eyes, she saw him breathing. She felt relieved I must distract this elk to give him an opportunity to run, he might be stupid and useless but he'smy packmate and a beta should risk her life to save her pack, but how? She thought for a moment then saw a few fallen branches. Cardinal picked them up and threw them in different directions, distracting the elk for a while. She crouched and slowly managed to escape. I hope that idiot lives! She prayed. |

How long Aloe was unconscious, he wasn't sure, but the rain had completely stopped and the sun was on its way to setting when he finally opened his eyes. Aloe blinked. Ow. Everything hurts, he whimpered softly, his whole body aching. Oh. Oh! I'm not dead! I'm alive! The thought made him want to dance around and sing, though it hurt too much to move. "I'm alive!" He crowed at the empty sky, then lifted his paw groggily. He placed it down again and tried putting weight on it. Ow ow ow… He glanced around. Everything was a bit blurry, fading in and out from his vision. He winced, stumbling. His head spun dizzyingly as he forced himself back towards Blossom Pack camp. Barely making it to the border, Aloe collapsed again, letting out a small whimper as he fell to the ground. The world was getting darker and darker. Oh no… I didn't catch anything… Abaddon's going to be furious… he thought blearily, before everything went black. |

Cardinal saw the wolf getting up and collapsing "I hope he's okay!" She said to herself as she dragged him under the shade of a tall pine tree and sat down beside him, waiting for him to wake up. Cardinal was feeling a little tired "I should rest too!" She said as she laid down and rested her head on her paws. She closed her eyes and slept as birds chirped on the branches of the tree. |

The world hazed in, then went black again. "I should rest too!" A voice said, somewhere far away— no, right next to him. The dim light disappeared before his eyes. Aloe fell in and out of his nightmares, gasping softly in his sleep. Aloe awoke with a start. He'd been having nightmares about Cardinal and Abaddon. Cardinal had thrown him against a tree, and she was a lot bigger than he'd remembered. Aloe frowned, then looked around and yelped. Cardinal was asleep right next to him. Now he remembered why everything hurt. Abaddon's going to be furious that we didn't bring back any food, he thought, but then reconsidered. Maybe he'll be relived that Cardinal's safe. I mean, I don't think he'd really care that I'm injured, maybe he'll forgive her for not bringing back anything. And maybe she won't tell him I was there, and then he won't be mad at me for failing another hunt. Maybe I should ask her not to tell him. Aloe glance at the sleeping wolf, then winced. What am I thinking? Why would she ever do anything nice for me? She'll probably enjoy seeing me get into trouble. And I'm too much of a coward to ask her, anyway. He stared at her for a moment, wondering if he should leave. I might get into trouble if I leave. I'll stay here. |

After a long time, Cardinal slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She saw Aloe sitting beside her "Oh you're awake!" She said as she slowly managed to sit upright "How are your wounds? Do they still hurt?" She tried to be as polite as she could be "Thank you for saving me!" She said with a smile on her face. |

Aloe blinked, surprised at her sudden kindness, then looked away, refusing to speak to her. As if she has any right to act like we're friends after all these years. He stood up, gave her a polite nod of the head, and padded off towards his den. Once there, he curled up, biting his lip and trembling softly. He wiped away the tears that had started to appear, forcing them away and glaring at a rotten spot in his den. I'm so stupid. Why'd I risk my life for her? I should have left her to die. It's her fault I'm injured. He glanced at his back and nearly screamed when he saw the bright red bruises and marks all over his pelt. His whole side was a dark purplish red, and the sharp antlers had left red marks that seemed to have been bleeding heavily. That's why I felt so faint, he realized, licking the wounds and wincing. |

Cardinal followed the wolf back to the camp I must apologize to him and....I think I should also reward him for his bravery. She thought as she trotted to her den and grabbed the rabbit carcass which the wolf gave her earlier. She trotted to Aloe's den and dropped the carcass infront of him "Sorry... for being rude to you." She said as she laid down beside him "You saved even after I was mean to you, you could've left me there and let me die but you didn't so... here's a reward for your bravery." She tried to sound as polite as she could be "Can we be... friends?" She felt a bit awkward Isn't this too forward? No, It's fine! She thought for a moment then nuzzled the wolf. |
