Hello! Need help organising my pack

Hello! Need help organising my pack

Hello everyone! I'm Iona and I joined a few days ago. ^^

I've got a decent grasp of the basics, but I've got to the stage where I have many wolves and I'm wondering how to to optimise hunting and who to kick out.

My current hunting party does a fair job (it's 4 friendly/romantic wolves with 18% synergy). I'd like to add a 5th and maybe reshuffle roles a bit in my pack. Also wondering if strategically I own any wolves that aren't really worth keeping, how my gender ratio is, and whether I've given the right genders the right roles (I think I read somewhere it's best to have an all male hunting party for example, should I strive for that?).

Basically I'd love an experienced player to look over what I have and tell me what they'd do!

(where are the smileys in this forum, aaa)

Hey! First, the sex of the wolf in a given role does not currently have any effect on its ability to perform that role. An all-male hunting party will be just as effective as a mixed sex or all-female hunting party (ignoring other factors). The only things that matter are stats and personalities. That being said, I took a look at your wolves and here is my analysis:

- You don't have any that "aren't worth keeping". What I mean is that none of your wolves have especially low stats, so they should all perform their roles well.

- The gender ratio is fine, but I'd advise having more females for breeding. Males can perform roles, but only your breeding male can breed. Other males are less valuable to keep than females. If you're looking to get into breeding, then sex change some males or get more females. Otherwise, it's fine.

- For your hunting party: Bjorn will be best as a stalker (stalker role uses smarts & wisdom, and that is his highest role-specific stat pair. She's also your wolf with the highest smarts & wisdom). Kulta will be best as a chaser (agility & speed). Elanor will be equally effective as a chaser (agility & speed) or stalker (smarts & wisdom), but should be given the finisher role because she has good strength and the stalker role is taken by Bjorn because of his stats. Tinúviel would be most effective as a stalker (smarts & wisdom), but as Bjorn should take that role, she should be a chaser.

- To summarize the above, I'd have your current party like this: Bjorn (stalker), Kulta (chaser), Tinúviel (chaser),  Elanor (finisher, can also take chaser role). This gives you a stalker, 3 chasers if Elanor takes two roles on each hunt, and a finisher.

- Your scouts are fine, but Griselda will be more effective than Tamerlane in later game. Focus on upping Tamerlane's stats by rescouting. I don't know which biomes you have unlocked or which you still need to scout, but I could help more if you gave me these lists.

- Your herbalist is good. Technically Elanor is better suited for the role, but I haven't seen a difference in using an herbalist with high vs low smarts & wisdom. I'd keep the herbalist in that role.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you so much for your detailed response, and sorry it took me a while to get back to you! I switched up the roles in my hunting party to what you recommended and they've been doing well!

I have scouted the Grasslands, Deciduous Forest, Mountains, Riparian Woodland, and Coniferous Forest. I currently have Griselda working on discovering the Prairie. What is the benefit of rescouting? I tried it with Tamerlane and got some experience and a couple of feathers.

Rescouting gives amusement items as you noticed, but it is most useful to build up a scout's proficiency, level, and stats. Higher level biomes require a LOT of stats in a particular category. For example, the Glacier requires a scout with 101 wisdom which is pretty difficult to get without rescouting. If you rescout the Riparian Woodland, you have a chance to gain 1 wisdom each time and you get experience to level up which gives your wolf more stats. You'll also need high profiency for these biomes, and rescouting helps with that as well.

From the list you gave, I recommend using Griselda to rescout the Riparian Woodland for a chance to gain wisdom and use her as your Glacier scout when the time comes. Strength is easier to get in my experience, so send Tamerlane to rescout the Desert once you've gotten it unlocked so that you can up that strength stat and have him as your Rainforest scout. For now he can either scout new biomes (whichever you currently need to work on) or rescout old biomes for the experience benefit.

Hartley, I need your help again! I have 8 pretty pups that were born today. I want to keep 4 and sell 4. But some are clearly more valuable than others, and so I want to make sure I protect the best pups the most.

I have 3 pupsitters:

  1. Heimdall (70% proficiency)
  2. Midwinter (60% proficiency)
  3. Oberon (70% proficiency)

How can I best spread the puppies out across them? For now I identified 1 that is not worth much and I'm not protecting him, but the rest... I don't know how to split out across the pupsitters.

Would really appreciate some advice!

ETA! I had 4 adult slots that I'd been saving for my adolescents, but they won't be needed for 6/7 days. So I added two temporary NBW pupsitters and I think I've figured out a good way to spreadout their protection. Could you just double check for me that I've got a good set-up? I'd still very much appreciate input on the value of the pups and whether any are stud material.

So you've got 5 pupsitters & 7 brand-new pups to protect? Oh boy lol

You have 3 options here:

1. Get more sitters. Preferably buy a 100 protection sitter from the TC to fully protect 2 pups at once

2. Keep the current sitters with multiple pups and risk partially protected pups dying

3. Take lower valued pups off of their sitters and fully protect the higher valued pups

I'm a little concerned about that pretty merle male having less than 100 protection. Let me know which you want to do and I'll look through your set-up!

Thanks for checking in and confirming I need to up the protection. I just bought an extra pupsitter (98% proficiency) but somehow I can't set him as pupsitter, the role is greyed out. Is there a maximum number of pupsitters per pack, or is it proportional to the slots? I have space for 16 adults.

ETA: hmm, no, I looked at him more closely and there's the following warning at the top of his page: This wolf is currently on a pupsitting cool down. He will be able to take on the Pupsitter role again in one rollover!

Yep, you have to wait a rollover if he's been taken off of the role today. There is no maximum number of sitter you can have. Looking at the sitters and pups you have now, here's how I would assign pups. You can mix and match sitters and pups as long as the amount of protection given is the same.

Heimdall 70%: Silver T2, inuit, tamaskan - give 100% prot

Oberon 70%: Doubloon Inuit & BO Base - multi-pup sitterQuartz T1 BO, inuit, tamaskan unders - multi-pup sitter

Midwinter 60%: Sterling t2 - give 100% prot.

Temp Pupsitter 60%: Silver T2, Merle, Inuit - give 100% prot.

Temp Pupsitter II 60%: Merle - give 100% prot.

Double Tamaskan - no protectionCommon BO base, no markings - no protection

This will ensure the protection of your most valuable pups. If the two unprotected pups survive, you can move them to the new pupsitter after rollover, though I would put This pup and This pup on that sitter so that the Quartz had its own.
