Zara

Zara's interest was piqued hearing the man talk, even if some of the newfound knowledge did little to ease back the cloak of mystery that seemed to surround everyone she'd met down here thus far, Préachán included. Though her curiosity perked up at hearing he was a shapeshifter, not dissimilar to her.
"Shapeshifter eh? Let me guess, bat?" She snickered at the poor attempt at a joke. For reasons unknown to her, bats always seemed to be tied to vampires one way or another. Whether or not it had any merit, she had yet to find out.

It was his description of hunger that eventually pulled the smile from her face.
"Sounds like hell." Was all she could think to say, unsure of what else she could say anyways. At the very least it might explain the sour and pained expressions he always seemed to have so far, she thought as she felt a small twinge of… sympathy? For Préachán.
"And as for your dining habits- Well lets just say the poor quality meals they serve here wasn't what I had in mind…" She said cautiously, flicking her eyes to the surrounding, unsuspecting customers busy eating their own meals.
"Though from the sound of it, it looks like you have a pretty good hold on yourself. From what I hear, vampires can be quite messy and inconsiderate when they get desperate." She stated with a disarming smile before moving on with the conversation, Leaning forward on the table slightly to get a better glance at the trinket Préachán had stolen. It was quite shiny and flashy she had to admit. Something that was just begging to be swiped down here, especially if it was put on display for everyone to see, like rich people seemed to enjoy doing.
"Well I can say I can certainly see the appeal. Ive always had a soft spot for expensive and showy things. Though as to why some lack such common sense to parade it around in places like this, I havent the slightest idea." She said with a sigh, leaning back in her seat now; admiring the gleaming piece from afar.
"Now I suppose your wondering about me. Well, I grew up in the city. Not in a well off family by any means, but I certainly had some freedom. Enough for my family to keep my- ahem- abilities hidden when they were first discovered; though I'm not too sure which side of the family I got it from just yet. Facing the choice of getting my shifting under control as soon as possible; or my family, and me being ostracized from the community, I learned to get a handle on it fairly quickly you could say." She sighed, not used to talking about her backstory much.
"As for why I'm here, I'd guess its boredom more than anything. And a chance to truly connect with the other side of me more, something I'm not used to…" She said, growing quiet as her thoughts turned back to her old life, a life now passed it seemed.
"Who knows, maybe Ill find some form of kinship with this place and the people here. Maybe more than I ever did up there." She said with a snort, nodding her head up in the far off direction of the upper city.
"anyhow-" Zara started, shaking herself from the unpleasant memories of her past life.
"If we're supposedly going to be working together for an unforeseen amount of time- Any information you'd care to share, that I should know about you?" She asked, eyebrows raised in a questioning glance.

Préachán gave a small laugh, barely there. "No. Not a bat. Bird, actually. To be exact, a crow." He stated, pocketed the pin. "It is hell. As for this place, the food is awful, it's always been. There are better places, but the price goes up. I don't miss food like this. Though, yes, I like to think I've got decent control but believe it or not, I get desperate too. Usually..  I give in,  but I'm pretty sure a certain Naga wouldn't like that." He continued, looking none too happy about that, but listening to what Zara said.

"If they show it off, I'll gladly take it. I take it your family aren't... like you? It's unusual, no? Anyway, what do you shift into? Oh and also, your family sounds like people who don't value those gifts. They're nothing to be ashamed of, or hidden. Plenty of shapeshifters here though." He stated, some anger finding its way into his voice, as he fiddled with the cord of his feather necklace.

"Yeah alright,it's only fair.  I was born here, to a family who had too many kids but never enough in terms of money. Shapeshifting came naturally to me. Runs in the family, but they're a kid short these days. Pretty sure they don't care. Or notice. Anyway, you got anything else left to get?" He grabbed his bag of money, counted it carefully. "Say, you wouldn't know anyone interested in a fancy pin? Could use more money. No, not for anyone else but myself, there's also other trinkets if you'd be interested." He said, picked up a few items from his pockets, lined them up on the table, with a small gesture when he was done. "Take a look, it'll go on to a merchant soon."

Zara

Zara gave out a light laugh at hearing Préachán speak.
"Ha- No, they most definitely aren't like me. They accepted my.. uniqueness well enough, but they wouldn't be able to bear giving up their comfortable little life up there." She fell into a quiet silence, thoughts wandering, before she gave a sigh.
"Anyways, my forms a panther. Black panther. Good for sneaking around eh?" Zara chuckled lightheartedly.
"It took me a while to get the hang of it. I would wake up, and could never remember what I did while I was her, but its gotten easier. I'm able to remember just fine now of course, and I have better control overall. Its gotten easier being able to practice here. And really, a crow? Interesting!" She said, interest piqued; taking note of the feather necklace wrapped around his neck.
"What's it like being able to fly? Ive always wanted to fly." Zara murmured as she turned her gaze down to pass over the items lined along the table. Taking a minute to pass them all over, she eventually targeted one, picking it up to examine it. A simple, round ring, silver in color with rubies studding it. She pushed it onto her fingers trying it out for size.
"Eh, might as well, I have more than enough left over from what the queen gave me." She shrugged with a light smile pulling at the edge of her mouth, as she brought the pouch out to place some coins down by Préachán.
"As for anything else I'd need, I have a few more stops planned, and it wouldnt be a bad idea to get the lay of the land down here just in case." She said as she stood up.
"Well it was nice meeting you more formally Préachán. I have a feeling itll be quite the adventure working together." She stated, flashing a farewell grin before heading out toward the exit of the diner.

"Figured. I've found that people fear, and hate, what they don't quite understand. Panther, huh? Can't say I'm a cat fan, regardless of size.  Still, useful, I suppose. A little big for hiding, and stealth, though. Would be useless in my line of work, because I rely on blending in. As much as a vampire with a shapeshifting ability possibly can." He said with a slight grin..
"I wasn't in control at first either, it was mostly back and forth, and always at random times. Gaining control was a process I'd rather not repeat." It had been long, hours upon hours of trying, and failing to manage a shift, and once he had, he had been trying to trigger the shifting back process. Which, these days was second nature, and as easy as breathing. "It took years until I figured it out. Might be because I was too young to grasp the concept. As for what it's like to fly, there is nothing that rivals it. It is... it is freedom, in its biggest form. The world is vast, if it's a good day, the sun shines, skies are clear, it's amazing. The wind can carry me where ever I want to go. It is best on sunny days, because, as much as I love being a vampire, I miss the sun. Darkness is fine, and safe, but the feeling of sun, and the warmth of it? Nothing like it. Even if it is only against feathers, these days." Préachán said, while quickly sweeping the remaining trinkets off of the table, and back into his pockets. The coins also went into his pockets, with an equally swift motion.
"Beware of anyone who might try to make that coin purse go missing. Lots of desperate people out here, more or less skilled."
He stated, remaining in his seat.
