Maplonia explores The Mountains

Despite your recent bad luck with the mountain area's weather, you decided it was time to take another walk there. Since your meeting with your newest companion, you hadn't thought much of the rocky area. Coming back now, it was almost as though you could still feel frost nipping at your cheeks as you ducked into another cave.

Snow clung to your hiking boots as you went along your merry way, whistling a tune you associated with a roaring bonfire. You remembered the night fondly and often thought back to what that man said. Could your Bearling be similar to the migrating species?

Suddenly, you tripped! Arms flailing, you managed to catch yourself before falling head first into the cold snow. Blinking in surprise, it took you a moment to realize that you were staring straight at teeny tiny footprints. Following them with your eyes, you noticed they disappeared at random points before appearing again- as though something had been jumping.

A) Follow the footprints

Well, curiosity killed the cat.

Scrambling to your feet, you decided to bite the bullet and follow the footprints. Brushing snow off your jacket and pants, you began walking. In the back of your mind, you wondered if it would lead to danger or something far worse.

No, it couldn't, you decided. The footprints were far too small for any of that so it was more than likely some tiny creature just jumping around. You smiled at the thought; perhaps you'd have another companion to accompany you on your adventures? Just thinking that made you excited. The more the merrier, as you say!

Soon you realized that the footprints just... stopped. They didn't veer off in any direction, simply disappeared as though the creature took a big leap or flew. Looking around, you noticed two paths that you could follow: higher up, past a large group of rocks, or down the mountain's side with a large frozen river.

A) Up the mountain
B) Down with the river

Climbing higher was easier said than done. The boulders were large and sharp, so it was difficult to find areas easy to hold onto without being in pain. Their surface was also slippery, which threatened your life a few times. Finally though you reached the top and exhaled in relief, thanking the stars you made it with only a few scars.

After taking a minute to rest, you looked up to see a flat area. It was large and covered with some small purple flowers. They produced a faint, pleasant scent and it was almost distracting enough to have you miss the faint rustling of a bush.

A) Investigate rustling
B) Look around the area

You made your way to the nearby bush, careful not to alert the creature. Reaching to move the leaves and short branches, you looked in.

Sitting atop a small sack was a Bearling. It seems annoyed, hissing and grumbling while tugging what looked like a shoe string tighter on the sack. It had large antlers and a bright red nose- similar to your newest companion. Noticing your questioning eyes, the creature turns and raised one stubby paw at you.

It chittered angrily, as if venting. You noticed the sack seemed a bit stuck. The shoe string was tied far too tight and looked almost impossible to get loose. Could that be why it was angry?

A) Untie the shoe string
B) Listen to it vent

Making a quick decision, you moved the Bearling- Giftling?- off of the sack and started untying the shoe string. At first, the creature gave howls of anger, but soon realized you were only trying to help.

Eventually you settled into a nice silent, your fingers hard at work and the Giftling watching with wide eyes. Suddenly the string loosened and you removed your fingers, watching as the being stuck its head inside the stack. With a cry of accomplishment it looked back out at you, eyes gleaming with joy. You smiled back, proud of yourself.

The creature removed a small stuffed object from the sack and reached up to you, extending the gift. As you looked into the small button eyes, you felt your heart soar. It was a bearling plush, almost the size of the creature itself, and was adorned with tiny shells and gems and an assortment of other goodies.

After accepting the gift, you saw the creature on its merry way. It waved to you once before fluttering into the sky, perhaps to share more gifts with travelers. You returned home, holding the small plush gently as a reminder of this magical journey.

Congratulations!
