moved to discord (somewhat) - please PM if you'd still like to join!The Last Hope Once Winged Academy this is just copy pasted from a message, tried to clean it up a little but here yall go ofc ofc gonna be a bit different from how i usually do it, had the idea since like 3 months ago but never actually got around to it. essentially its a dragon/magic academy. i think i stole it from a book? somewhat? don't remember the book. but lets say we have a corrupt ruler of this fantasy land and hidden at the edge of the known world is a school built around a cavern where dragons hail from. currently, there are three fully grown dragons and (haven't decided yet) eggs - i'll just be using the headmaster as my character likely will not take on another character and then i'll choose 2 people to be helping with running the rp. those three are bonded to the fully grown dragons already. entrance: there have been 10 people selected (not all of these will be played, some will just be npcs for filler characters) that headmaster has found and judged to be worthy of learning magic/bonding with a dragon. it'll start with them all arriving at the school and i just have to decide whether we should start from basically year 1 or further on and i'm leaning to further on so that it doesn't take too long to get into the story i will choose 2 people to help out specifically, just need to see who is interested first!! everyone will have a say, it's just more who can i trust will be able to help if i have to go/who can write extras like descriptions of places/events/etc if that makes sense? it feels really rude but i've just found its easier for me, especially if this does develop into smth bigger!! also thinking of, with the magic, bringing in subspecies. things like storm themed dragons, ofc fire, water/ice, maybe ground, things like that. but i think i'll see how yall's characters change and pick based on that (if you do have a specific one you'd like to try and get then do lmk). these subspecies breathe (for example) ice instead of fire. generally, once you've bonded you are able to control a little of that dragon's element. ground is a difficult one but i think i'll leave it unless someone really wants to be a down-to-earth, stable with the tendency to cause catastrophes when pushed person. that gives you a hint as to how i'll be deciding on dragons :D and bleu mentioned wyverns with feathers which i really like so that might come in later!! i keep saying dragons but they will be wyverns (2 legs, 2 wings) and think game of thrones wyverns. i am not terribly sure how i want ageing to work but we'll say they're born about cat size, by 2 they're closer to lions, 5 - horse, 10 - bison and they keep around that size until they reach 25 where they then reach about house size by 30. then they just keep growing bit by bit and generally stop at drogon's size which is generally around 50 years. the oldest they can live to is 200 but generally retreat to living with others at 150, forming groups of elder dragons who care for each other until, yknow, death. at least, until dragons were killed in these lands. three babes were kept safe in the cavern the school was built to encompass, frozen in stone until the headmistress happened upon them and honestly i can't be bothered to figure the whole backstory out but if you really wanna know then ask and i'll figure smth out lmfao and also - i *adore* all the ideas yall are having but as of this time, dragons have been essentially wiped out. there are 3 fully grown dragons and 4 eggs (depending on how many people join - i think i'll be saying just 1 character per person for now who is bonded with a dragon but i may add in more magic roles that could be filled and such) and because of this, until we maybe explore other islands, we won't be going to deeply into all of this. okay i think that's everything?? if you want smth cleared up lmk!! i hope its easy to read, if not then tell me and i'll seperate it a bit more! oh and i see you're all mentioning wings of fire in chat and i have yet to read like more than 2 books so things like rainwings/silkwings? whatever you were talking about probably will not be included rules pretty basic rules! - swearing is completely fine, you don't have to censor and you don't have to use it if you don't like - as a general, keep it around pg13? light kissing is fine and all but no making out or anything, either fade to black or pms. always ask as well, either in pms or in the ooc thread! - i am personally fine with basic descriptions of gore and such, so i'll say hunting animals/killing humans (which shouldn't be around for a while) is fine but don't be graphic about it! if anyone would rather people add a content/trigger warning to the start of anything, let us know in pms or the main thread <3 - we'll be keeping to just one character and that character is not allowed to be overpowered, they need to have flaws. magic may come in but it will be a fairly low scale magic thing!! - i think thats it! please let me or just someone who can then let me know if you'll be gone for longer than 2 or so days and wether you want me to just keep your character moving around with basic things or if you wanna do anything specific. really just adhere to the usual rp rules! |

document!! best place to go for information <3 Storm wyverns have a specific bone in their wings next to their "thumb". The purpose of this bone is unclear, until they are trying to intimidate something, or are trying to attract mates (or they're just simply showing off!) By swiftly throwing their wings together over their back, these bones connect, producing a loud cracking sound, not unlike thunder. Their whip-thin tails also provide these sounds, along with being dangerous weapons. A single lash can cut a mature tree in half. They are extremely fast fliers due to their (usually) oversized wings. Their large lungs allow them to survive in the lowest of pressure. Fire wyverns can submerge themselves in fire and lava, due to their high heat tolerance. Some speculate this is because of a specific food in their diet, but no one has survived observing a fire wyvern for that long. Sacs just below the scales along the spine produce chemicals that, when met with oxygen, becomes fire. The only time these flames go out is when the dragon is asleep. Their body temperature is so hot, if water came into contact with their scales, the water would turn into steam. They do, however, have the ability to lower their body temperature. The only real reason they would ever have to burn something by touching it is a) fighting, b) hunting, or c) heating their offspring. Water wyverns can breathe underwater due to the gills on their necks and/or sides. They also have increased night vision, more taste buds (both on their talonpads and tongues), and can spew boiling hit water. In order for them to do so, however, they must be sufficiently hydrated, with enough to use the water and still have water to live on. By being submerged in water or intaking a quick gulp through the gills, the water is stored in a special compartment in the throat. Most of the water goes to their kidneys, but the other stays near the mouth, in that little sac. A second sac, containing two flaps of solid muscle perpendicular to one another and running vertically, leads from the first sac. By flexing the neck muscles, the two flaps rub together at rapid speeds, generating friction and, ultimately, heat. The water from the first sac is then moved to the flaps, which is further up the neck, where it is then heated and expelled from the mouth. Due to a particular creature in their diet, called a fireball slug (which produces a fire-resistant goo), the inside of their mouths, tongue, and throat are completely immune to the intense heat of their boiling water. - I imagine storm wyverns to be more top heavy, but overall lithe, with super long tails and large wings (for ultimate flying speed) - Fire wyverns are a lot bulkier and long, like salamanders, with long necks and legs - Water wyverns are plumper (for surviving in colder waters), with big ol webbed talons, large snouts to snap up little fish, and thick tails that slap the water so hard it creates 20 foot waves phrog: - saddles for storm wyverns would have to be a lot more streamlined and instead of being built outwards like a typical western saddles, they'd look more like an english saddle (or if its easier to picture a httyd kinda thing, think hiccup/toothless' saddles) and essentially be longer. if they needed to fight, they'd likely be best for ranged attacks given wings but the amount of, for example, arrows able to be stored would be easily enough to fight a proper battle with. - fire wyverns could certainly handle a thicker saddle, almost any dragon is ofc good for long ranged attacks but swords could be stored along the inside of a thicker saddle - protected from wear and tear. heat is an issue but bonding gives you a slight immunity to certain things like, in this case, fire. plus, armour made of molted dragon scale would easily combat the heat and keep a human cool. the saddle would like have to be lined with dragon scale as well. - a water wyvern would likely handle either well - they're plumper definitely but if they end up on top/in water a bulky saddle wouldn't help so it'd had to depend on what the rider wants. - ice isn't mentioned much but i figure they'd also be fairly bulky given they need to survive in colder climates. bulky but their wings are longer, providing more balance atop snow and ice. - and exactly, a fire dragon working with their rider to craft would be absolutely adorable and also a big reason i chose fire lmao storm/water dragons would likely adore helping on farms or perhaps a more classy approach, keeping the lands of someone perfect for growing food and such. tiger: Maybe Ice dragons could be built for mostly stamina. They are extremely aggressive and territorial covering huge territories, and spend all day patrolling them, as food sources would be precious, being few and far between. They could possibly either be built really bulky, needing all the extra muscle for flying long distance and fighting, or built for speed for very quick and short lasting aerial fighting, plus for maximum efficiency for more successful hunting. (I'm imagining either big prey like mammoth if they exist here, or smaller like mountain goat and stuff depending on which build we'd go with) And they're also covered in little spikeys that look like fur from far away like the little sketch i made :3 Their bodies could reflect the cold temperatures they're in but if they get too warm, they loose the ability to use their ice breath. But a side benefit of being warmer might be improved performance because of the more efficient energy burning/usage similar to warm blooded animals. (I have no clue if this is right, i remember very little from biology class so tell me if this is wrong :P) crystal+rock!! poison+sand!! basic plan: we'll be sorting out the intro day then just skipping ahead a week so we can rp more - build on friendships/explore more of the world! what i want to do: excursion to the town nearby, bringing in the dragon's eggs and maybe learning more of the king and why he outlawed dragons+riders. then we can either open it up and let more people, therefore more dragons, join but i'd rather we go ahead 5 years and have some kind of event (bad event) but for that i'd much rather have a few stable relationships (either friendships, more of a mentor/student. i don't really mind what happens with romantic things thats all up to you but looking at most characters i'm thinking that wont be happening much), and work from there! all up to you guys, if you have other ideas lmk :D i really just have a few base ideas from how the general direction of this is going but i also can't decide much at the pace we're going at lmao how dragons communicate backstory! ilia was born a noble woman, about 15 years before her time (king was 20), the dragon riders were invited to a fest and promptly executed. its assumed the king was scared and angry of wyverns, his mother had been a rider and was killed on the back of her mount. everyone guessed that was gonna be it, life would just continue as normal. but nope! he starts diving into the dark arts - cliche ik but still - and thoughts of ruling more than just one of the biggest lands filled his head. he went to the closest land with a decent amount of people and therefore a need for a ruler. the ruler laughed in his face. so he called upon shadows and..... passed out. yeah, he didn't really train much. absolute laughing stock. he returned to his own throne with a ruined ego but a desperate need to learn how to control the shadows. by the time ilia was born he was 35 and the land was slowly beginning to fall into shambles. 3 of their biggest mountains - once used for mining - were filled with shadowy soldiers. an army of magic, essentially. when ilia was 15 she began to research - playing it off as a love for history and surprisingly, the king allowed her to access the royal libraries. she found old texts, leading to the mountain and valley the academy is in now. when she was 16, her mother and father managed to win the king's approval somehow and soon their family was less restricted by the rules, giving ilia the chance to travel to the village close to the mountain. of course, she left the carriage behind, glad that those accompanying her allowed her escape. hopefully they'd make it into the village and disperse from there or even more carefully, they'd ruin the carriage as though an attack took place. as ilia travelled, much less easily than the carriages that brought the children up, she came across byx. like you said, he goes WHOOO are you a criminal?? bring me with you and she was like aight!! :D friends!! :D and for now, idk what i can do with mack's character bc they're usually busy during the week. anyway. they make it to the valley and its much more decrepit and rundown but still the gates open... thats a lie, they had to climb the wall using the vines and slowly make their way down on the other side but ilia, being yknow, not very used to anything but 'polite' sports, managed to sprain her wrist and twist her ankle upon landing. its okay, she's gotten better at it. but they found three old peoples who essentially granted them access to the caves and to their own knowledge. kyrena had been born then, she was already about 20 (having been 5 when the assassination happened) and you'll have to decide on yours as i don't know the exact age. the three old people - dragon handlers, not riders - had been keeping them safe but given there were now no adult dragons it was difficult. they trained, for about 10? years in which they did explore! taking care not to go too far incase they were seen. meanwhile, the king had found a way to essentially stop his ageing process. i'm gonna be dark and say he killed ilia's father for the b̸͙̃̂̔̆̈͌̓̏̚l̴̃̋̾o̶͚͎̿̑̍͛͌̈́ỏ̴̮̪̜̓̿͂̈́̔͊͘d̵̪̱͖̺͙̯̔̀͂͗͘͝͝ ̸̛̔s̵̅͒̃̋̓̑̕á̸̳̿͌͊͛͌̋c̸̜̲͝r̵̛̠̒͆̓̀͐̂́̕i̴̾́̒̅̒f̸͉̦͈̠̬̐i̸̔c̴̨̛̺͍̱̉̊̐͋̋̈́͘ę̴̨̩̱̿͋́̑͂͆̍ - punishment for their daughter managing to escape. mother lived tho!! for now. the three dragon handlers eventually passed and when that did happen - at around 27 for ilia - the three maybe just two cause again, no answer from mack, decided that they should really do something. either ilia/byx managed to pose as a commoner and found a few loyal people to spy for them or maybe a spy came to them (sephan might be joining, maybe they'll be the spy) ad they learnt of the kings plans. so, of course, they set out to at least halt it. neha electrocuted a small battalion of shadows, eventually they reformed and with a second blast of dragon fire, they were completely killed. another test and it was found that you essentially need two strikes - fire and electricity do the most damage but inside each of them is a skull. that skull is from a person and inside it is warmth that keeps the shadows tethered to the world. flooding or freezing it can shatter them from the inside. that drew the kings attention but, as they were keeping close to home, he presumed that the reach was something even magic couldn't breach. another year passed of them annihilating whatever the king sent into their area before they progressed forward. first going to the smallest of the mountains that were now brewing hidden armies, kyrena managed to melt it. shadow, stone, iron, almost everything turned to goop and *that* was when they realised o shit we have dragons that rival tales of old. neha, while younger, took out another mountain. most were preparing to leave and therefore wearing armour. it took one strike to kill them, the electricity bouncing off the metal and directly into the skull inside each one. it was pretty awesome. but it had taken a lot of travelling just to get there and they decided to fall back. they took a 4 year break upon realising how many people had noticed it and instead began to build up a relationship with the nearby villages. also beginning to rebuild the academy. after those two years, we'll say someone close to them was found and executed but in a very public manner and ilia, at least, was pissed. barely a day later she set out and maybe byx joined her maybe not its up to you!! but anyway. kyrena, also very annoyed, not sure why but her bonded was angry so she was too, ended up destroying a few travelling battalions - they're beginning to take whoever they find of fighting age to transform into the shadow warriors and unlucky them, caught the pair's attention. they travelled to another mountain, but this time the king was prepared. ilia spotted the weapon and hadn't landed, not triggering the trap, but the heavy harpoon left a gouge in Kyrena's side. that took them back to reality and they left, retreating to the mountains. as they travelled back, that was when ilia began to see the bonds. so!! upon returning, ilia began to return to an old interest - herbs and medicine to heal kyrena. by the time the academy was fully formed and the children had had invites sent, the wound was only a scar and ilia was making plans on how to armour the dragons from more injury like that. basic math - byx english/learning to write or read - ilia history of the land - ilia history of wyverns - both weapons work - both sword/close range - byx long range - ilia horses - raymond working with wyverns - all (includes anatomy/behaviours/nesting habits/all that fun stuff) extras: geography - either (drawing/making maps - byx || other - ilia) sewing/needlework - ilia designing (armour/saddles) - either designing (weapons) - byx (could be either) horses, again (just more detailed) - ilia (hunting/jumping) and raymond (everything) drama (eg, lying/telling stories) - byx music - byx and just lmk if you have any more ideas! |
