He hadn't been expecting the answer to be so grim. He didn't mean to send his next thought either, but it was too late now.
'Damn that's weird- This guy needs help.'
He hadn't meant it in the way it came out, and yet that wouldn't make it any better. Before he could apologise, Avery let go of his hand and went back to whatever book he was reading.
Dammit. He sighed to himself, knowing he'd have to apologize later. Because he was stressing about it, he was having a harder time controlling his form. He didn't want to show it in class though, so he concentrated and kept himself looking human.

Avery turned away instantly whenever he heard the thought. He's just like everyone else..He thought dully as he looked back down at his book. He ended up just ignoring anything the teacher said or what anyone else said.

By the end of third period, Hiro was done with people. He and Arlo had hardly any classes together, and it had been so loud in his last class that he had a headache. He decided to just skip the next few periods, and maybe even the rest of the day.
He was leaning against the lockers while his group talked about all the new kids this year.
"Yeah man, she's such a crybaby."
"Hey, Jonas, did you hear about that Avery kid?"
The mention of Avery's name caught his attention, and he looked up from his phone to listen.
"Yeah, I heard he brought a dog with him or some shit. The teachers don't even care, it's so stupid!"
"I agree with you there bro. He's a freak. He doesn't talk to anyone, he just spends all of his time studying."
"Damn, that's boring. Maybe we should have some fun with him, I mean, it's not like he could tell anybody."
As they went on to talk about the next person, Hiro became irritated. He wasn't going to say anything, since he didn't want them to think he was friends with him, but he accidentally let his eyes turn red, and they could tell he was irritated.

Avery had walked out of his class and he kept his head down. He held his books in his hands and he quickly tried to avoid the huge group of guys in the hallway. He slipped by and walked quickly away, trying to avoid being seen.

Hiro was just about to go back to his phone when he noticed a familiar redhead walking down the hallway. He looked at him, but didn't say anything. Apparently he wasn't the only one who saw him, because as he was about to turn the corner, one of his friends called out,
"Hey nerd, where the hell are you off to?"
"Yeah, I don't think we've gotten the chance to properly introduce ourselves yet!" His other friend chimed in.

Avery tensed up a little, but he tried to ignore them. Just keep walking.. He was starting to panic on the inside, and he ended up picking up his pace. Skye whimpered a little as she trotted alongside of him.

Avery was walking fast, but not fast enough. Jonas and Andrew caught up to him and blocked his path.
"Oh come on little guy, tell us your name why don't ya?" Andrew smirked.

Hiro tried to mind his own business. His friends know when to stop. They know how far is too far. At least he hoped they did. He blocked out the sounds of his friends, not wanting to hear all the things they said. He wouldn't pick on Avery. That had been decided a while ago, but he knew his friends wouldn't make the same choice.

The last two of his friends walked over to Jonas and Andrew to join in on it. Hiro was only able to block them out until he heard the dog growling, and saw Jonas shove Avery to the ground.

When he was shoved to the ground, he dropped his books. A frown made its way onto his face. Skye growled and instantly stood over Avery, she used herself to try and protect her owner. After a moment Avery slowly stood up, and his next move might have been the craziest thing he could have ever done. He actually spit in Jonas' face, a scowl on his face.

Hiro had seen what happened, and so had the rest of his group. While Hiro was busy holding back his laughter, the others were gearing up for a fight. Andrew shoved the dog, and Killian and Jensen grabbed Avery's arms. Jonas was throwing profanities at Avery as he got ready to punch. Hiro knew he couldn't let this happen.
Not getting involved to protect myself is one thing, but standing by and watching it happen. . I won't. He groaned internally, knowing he would probably regret this later.
He walked over to the boys, and called out on his way there "Jonas, back off!"
Jonas turned around, the rage in his eyes was unmistakable. "What the fuck?! This little shit is gonna apologise, or else he deserves what he's gonna get!" He snapped, turning back to Avery.
"JONAS. You have fucking superstrength. If you do this, you will be expelled." He snapped, subtly reminding him of his extensive penalty record.
Jonas stopped to think for a moment, before lowering his fist.
"You got lucky, bitch. But I still expect an apology."
Hiro literally facepalmed at that. It would appear he wasn't the only one who hadn't noticed Avery before.
"He's mute, you dumbass." He sighed, crossing his arms.

Avery kept the scowl on his face, and he narrowed his eyes at Jonas before he moved with his free hands and flipped him off. He had a satisfying grin on his face as he saw the pure anger in Jonas' eyes. Instead of backing down, Avery held his ground even as he heard Hiro's voice.
