The Poodle comes in four varieties in EU countries, but only three in NA.

EU:
Standard, Moyen, Miniature, Toy.

NA:
Standard, Miniature, Toy.

In NA a poodle labelled a 'moyen' is often breed through crossing a standard to a Miniature. Proper 'Moyens' are present in Standard poodle bloodlines in NA, it's just about finding the right bloodline and breeder.

Poodles original colours were parti! (Any colour and about fifty percent white), but that was bred away from as solids were preferred in the show ring. The UKC still allows Parti Poodles to show, but the CKC (Canadian) doesn't allow Partis to be shown or registered. AKC allows them to be registered but not shown.

Recently there has been an 'outbreak' of 'Merle' colour poodles. This is not a natural colour in poodles. They can come in Parti, brindle, Phantom, Apricot, Cafe au lait, ect...Merle has never been a poodle colour. Many colour breeders are claiming that their dog is 'purebred' through embark but embark only tests 3-5 generations back. A purebred poodle cannot be Merle. These colour breeders are 'hanging papers' by registering these dogs with the AKC by listing them as some kind of 'parti' as Merle is not a recognised colour (With good reason)

The three (or four) sizes of poodle are all considered the same breed! The oldest is the standard, and was bred down to smaller and smaller sizes over generations.

Poodles are as hypoallergenic as dogs come. However crossing a hypoallergenic dog to non-hypo dog does not guarantee this trait to be passed and more often then not results in fur that both sheds and mats. Doodles are notoriously hard on groomers due to this issue.

Poodles should be groomed from the moment they get home. Some breeders even give them 'table time' (grooming table) before they are 8 weeks old. A confident, gentle approach on the table with lots of patience creates poodles whom will happily stand, sit or lay on the table for hours on end should it be needed (Creative grooming).

The continental cut was developed to reduce the amount of work needed to keep the dog tangle free, while also keeping them warm while retrieving in cold water! The placement of each part is to protect extremities, joints and organs! Most people keep their dogs in a modified easier upkeep. Town and county, miami, german, and teddybear are all popular poodle styles.

Despite their reputation - the poodle is a robust active dog. They may not be fond of strangers but they are intensely loyal to their families and make for excellent all around companions and sports dogs.

Poodles are a part of the 'big four' of the service dogs - along side Labradors, Goldens and Bernese Mountain dogs.

Poodles are believed to have originated in Germany, France and Russia.

Idk if anyone else will find this as interesting as I do, but here it is.

Panda Shepherds are German Shepherds that are tri colored (black, tan, and white). The first recorded occurrence of a panda shepherd was in 2000 from a dog named Lewcinka's Franka von Phenom, and after genetic testing the puppies, it was confirmed that they were all purebred GSDs and not crossbred as many believed. This white marking is actually the result of a mutation of the KIT gene and having two copies of this gene is considered lethal as there is no living dog recorded with two copies (same with merles of any breed!).

Despite this being a mutation, Panda Shepherds have been recorded to have been perfectly healthy! Even though they are purebred GSDs, they are actually not qualified for showing by the AKC and GSDCA (GSD Club of America) as they don't fit the breed's standard.

I don't believe any of this information is wrong, but please correct me if it is!

Yep! Or at least that's what they call them! Here are some pics if you wanted to see them!

Akitas are also rather interesting! Apparently the American Akita used to be referred to as the "Great Japanese Dog" in some countries. This breed originates from the snowy mountainous regions of Japan and was used to hunt boar, elk, and small Yezo bears (brown bear). At one point, Akitas could only be owned by the Imperial family in Japan. This breed is rather aloof with strangers, but forms a tight bond with their family. This is also a breed that tends to require respect; this breed isn't recommended for inexperienced dog owners and training is very recommended.

Cute breed! Thought about getting one in the future, but I'll have to have a lot of time to set aside for it (same with a Malinois).

Edit: I spent so long on this post, I didn't realize someone else posted lol

hi

didn't see this on the list of dog facts. please forgive me if it is already on there.

i'm a fan of the show Lassie. Lassie is a rough collie.

the role of Lassie is played by a male collie . the character of Lassie is a female.

not sure if this count as a fact or trivia.
