Item to Delay Wolf Death One RO

Item to Delay Wolf Death One RO

You probably already know that all wolves (except leads) can die of old age starting at 7 years 6 months, but never past 8 years. Sometimes, though, you hope for them to live Just a Little Longer and don't want to risk them "Death Rolling" before they complete a special task - whether it's siring one more litter of pups, training one more pup lesson, getting one more stat, or even for lore reasons like seeing the birth of their grandchildren.

I think a lot of players would enjoy having the ability to obtain an item that would guarantee that a wolf doesn't die on the next RO. It wouldn't work past 8 years, but it would take out that chance for a beloved wolf to die before you are ready.

This item should be expensive to keep game balance, and something that players would really have to weigh the cost/benefit of before buying. Perhaps it could be a premium item for 5GC, like an instant pup delivery? So if a player really wanted to keep a wolf alive to the max 8 years, they would have to get a new one each day and it would be a large investment. Or it could be able to be crafted by a herbalist, but it takes rare items and the herbalist needs to have rather high proficiency or stats. Edit: or it could be tied to a future event! Either way, it shouldn't be an easy item to get.

It could be called an "invigorating brew" or something (but I am certainly open to more suggestions) - I just wouldn't want to call it a potion of youth because it wouldn't reverse or halt a wolf's aging - just ensure an already-old wolf doesn't die.

I think it wouldn't be too OP of an item if it was costly or rare enough, and it wouldn't be adding a new feature or allowing wolves to live longer than intended. But it would give the player more agency and choice if, for example, the ages of their favorite pairbond don't exactly match.

I very much like this idea.

I myself am in a similar position. I currently have only a single mutie line that took a solid year to establish. but the males death rolls start just a couple days before the female goes into heat again. And I'm wanting at least one last breeding out of this very important pair. Paying 5 GC for a grove item keeping him alive for even one day seems worth it to me. As once this line dies out, I'll have to resort to inbreeding for more muties.

As far as general use, In order to make sure the wolf stays alive for the full 6 months after death rolls start, people would need to invest 60 GC total. It seems like a lot at first, but i also see the majority of people using this for their studs so the breeding profits from the extended life would help offset the cost of the item. And since it obviously can't be used beyond the 8 years, I don't see any way for people to abuse it extensively.

Edit:there's also the fact that this would be 100% optional. If the items are too expensive for people to use on wolves that hold only sentimental value there's still the option to try their luck and have the wolf live out to 8 years old on its own. I've had a handful of my own non-lead wolves in the past that have made it to the full 8 years before passing.

I hope I make sense with all this. Sometimes I can't word properly :P

I like this idea but am really commenting to ask Skytiger: Why not just spring for an Elk Heart for you female vice an imaginary 5GC item to keep the male alive. Elk hearts are only 3 GC in the grove.

@Queen Elk hearts don't bypass breeding cooldowns.

Support! I think this would also be useful for hunters - being able to determine exactly when they would die, you'd also be able to determine exactly when to breed their successor (instead of having to plan around a potential death at 7y6m and then possibly lose out on many productive days of the elder hunter's life).

Oh, I didn't think of that.

This might be a great item with a fair cost. Imagine currently planning breeding with uncertainty as the male may have died of old age by the time the breeding is arranged. Or maybe somewolf wants to ensure a pupsitter lives a little longer to guarantee survival of protected pups. Or maximize stats before immortalizing the wolf.
